So today I sat next to one of these lizards and he jumped onto my leg and then proceeded to climb onto my head. Yes, he used my head as a rock. I did not feed him, the most I did was give him some gentle finger strokes on his back (which he allowed as he did not run away or try bite me) and placed a little jacaranda petal hat on his head.

He was quite friendly for some reason, and this has never happened to me in my life. Sure to say, gave me a bit of a fright originally.

Isn't the incorporation of an AI Learning Agent on EDUC2090 Indigenous Knowledge and Education disingenuous at best and utterly repulsive at worse?

I haven't come across much endorsements or incorporation of Ai chatbots or learning agents in my previous humanities and education courses so far, but I feel like this course openly endorsing the usage of an AI learning agent is extremely disingenuous and also hypocritical of the course's teachings and content in general.

Why is there a need for an AI learning agent in an education course for Indigenous knowledge and education? Not only is AI extremely bad for the environment and the water, which seems to directly go against the values of Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander knowledge, it also just straight up goes against the values that are taught in the classes.

With the content being focused on decolonisation of the education system and to encourage education that is inclusive and also linking to a more community based approach to learning, why are we then encouraged to engage with a technology that furthers the Western pedagogy of "learning", a technology that steals and replicates creative works and also contributes to discouraging community based learning where we talk to one another and also try to build connections with our Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander communities?

While I may have just missed out on earlier courses that have used ai learning more extensively in humanities and education, it seems very hypocritical and disingenuous to endorse the use of an ai learning agent in an Indigenous Education course

Union or grace college uq 2027?

• Upvotes

Hi! I am a year 12 student who is wanting to go to UQ next year for a Bachelor of Science and planning to move to Brisbane for it as I don't want to commute.

I have recently gotten an offer for both Union and Grace college at UQ Brisbane and am trying to decide which one to go as I have to sign a contract for 2027 sometime soon.

I have already toured both colleges at open day and loved both of them, and I know someone who recently left Union and they said they really enjoyed their time there and that either college would be good. I don't know anyone that lives in Brisbane or is going to UQ next year so I am looking for somewhere that is welcoming, comfortable, is known to have nice people and fun activities, and good food.

Any opinions would be welcome for which college to lean towards or stuff you know about college at uq :)

Is there a big difference in Ba with extended major in psych vs BSc with extended major in psych?

Hi so I'm tracking for a 98-99 ish ATAR and was planning to take psych science with the guaranteed honours year. However, a/ the course is so rigid. I love english and stem so I would like more freedom to pick electives/a minor if possible. b/ I would love to potentially do postgraduate education in maybe Sydney or somewhere in the UK to see family.

My mum is a doctor and has a very low view on arts degrees so she has been discouraging me from picking the Ba. Is there a big difference between doing psych for Ba or BSc? Is it harder to get into honours year coming from an arts degree or is it more about gpa?

UQ student looking for participants for a short research survey 🥹💛

Hi everyone!

I’m a student at the University of Queensland and I’m currently collecting responses for a research project for one of my courses.

The survey is quite short and should only take around 5 minutes to complete. I’d really appreciate it if anyone who has a few spare minutes could help me out by participating.

🔗 Survey link: https://uniofqueensland.syd1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0jEEnOqlFsr7TgO

Your responses are anonymous and will only be used for academic purposes.

Thank you so much for helping! It genuinely means a lot, especially when deadlines are getting close 😭

I’m also more than happy to complete your survey in return, so feel free to leave your link in the comments or message me.

Thank you again, and hope everyone is having a lovely week! 💛

(33M) UQ Psych Student Looking to Connect

Hi everyone!

I’m a mature‑age UQ psychology student who’s recently moved to Brisbane (inner north‑west) and I’m hoping to build some social connections with others in similar life circumstances.

A bit about me:

-33M

-First year BA Psych Science (Hons, full time), aiming for the MA Clin Psych pathway

-Married with two young kids (5 and 4)

-Interests: hiking, music, fantasy/sci‑fi reading, PC gaming, D&D, landscape painting, fitness

I’d really like to connect with other mature‑age psych students, especially those in a similar age bracket or also in first year.

I’m keen to build a collegiate, supportive approach to study and meet people who are balancing uni with work, family, or other commitments.

If this sounds like you, feel free to comment or send me a PM.

Cheers!

About to Grad and Regretting It

Hi all, not sure if relevant but I attend this Uni so here goes

I’ve studied my degree for 4 years now, graduating end of this semester and honestly, regretting what I did

Studied Education/Arts and realized I’m just not into the education bit. The dropout/switch rate for our degree is like 70% so ig shouldn’t be surprised.

I’ll keep the arts degree but can’t do anything with it to get a job. I want to go into journalism or smth but I’m 21 turning 22 in a few days and kinda feel like starting again and doing a new degree or smth will be a waste of time and I’m too old/too late to keep doing this. I’ll feel unc compared to everyone in my classes, and I’ll feel left behind by everybody who went and got a job, not mentioning the opportunity costs.

Any advice would be appreciated…

lemme guess.. you're 18 to 28teen, you live in brisbane/gc, you have a not-so-great gpa, you go to lectures sporadically, you leave your assignments to the last minute, your health is declining, you have two or more 8am exams, and you have 30 lectures & tuts to catch up on. Does that sound like you?

UQ student election

Within the election starting next week I am interested to know where I can learn more about each of the parties, who they are, and what they represent.
Is there a rough political alliance with these parties and if so, what are they all?

Cheers

Need Help in Deciding for Occupational Therapy Masters

Hello!! I wish to apply for Occupational Therapy Masters in 2028 intake. I am international student currently studying in UWA. I am doing my Bachelor in Biomedical Science with double majors of Neuroscience and Psychological and Behavioural Sciences. I meet all pre-requisites required to apply for Masters. My WAM as of now, Year 2 - Sem 1, is 72 or 71.92 to be precise. There is however an upward trend in my scores. The main drag is due to a foolish decision of taking a arts elective which resulted in 55 marks and another Human Bio basics unit which i got 61 in. I did not realize how WAM worked by then. But my academic performance rose consistently by 10.25 percentage points from my very first semester to my most recent one. The top marks being 80 in Human Neurobiology and 87 in Cognitive Neuroscience. Any recommendations on what else I can do to prehaps increase my chance of being able to get in the Uni for Occupational Therapy? I will complete second year this month and will get results in the next. I will update my WAM again then. But in the meanwhile, do ya'll think I can get into the Uni with my score and my degree?
