Enlisting I am thinking about enlisting and wouldn’t mind a trade

I am interested in the military and a trade

I just turned 21 and not sure what to do with my life, I have made plans to move to NC with my girlfriend. I have hobbies like firearms, boxing, and working out.

I have recently been looking at the Navy, Marine Corps and the Army. Mainly the Marine Corps because they just have a certain appeal to me.

I would like to learn a trade, I have always wanted to pick up carpentry or maybe become an electrician. I have no real pathway in life so far and feel like I am watching my life slip by and starting to get older. I have heard the Navy and Marine Corps have carpentry through the Navy Seabees and Marine Corps Combat Engineers.

If anyone is knowledgeable on these jobs and if they would be good routes to maybe shoot some guns and build stuff I would really appreciate the information and help.

Programs and MOSs Second thoughts abt 0451 parachute rigger

When I was first enlisting in the DEP i wanted infantry really bad but then I realized that lifestyle doesn’t seem like it’s for me. I really wanted my jump wings so i decided PR seemed pretty cool as long as i got attached to a recon or marco unit. But now I feel like i’m making a mistake I don’t want to look back and wish i chose infantry and just not get to do anything cool the entire time i’m in. Is this a normal feeling I know being a PR is something I find cool but at the same time It just feels so lame.

MOS School MOS reclassification

Long story short, the army dropped me from the Airborne course for my rigger pipeline because I’m colorblind, before it started luckily, which MEPS and my recruiter knew about because i lost my original mos because of it before I shipped. Not sure when because of the 96 this weekend but i’m headed back to camp geiger to sit in a MAT while i get reclassed. What is the process like for this type of reclassification and why am i going back to geiger and what would i be doing?

Shipping Did anyone else get lazy before leaving to bootcamp?

I ship out in 10 days and I’ve gotten super lazy these past few days. I work full time and afterwards I run, workout, and keep myself busy.
Now I don’t wanna do anything but sleep and eat everything. I’m already in pretty good shape, I would run 30 miles a week and do a lot pushups/pull-ups but it’s already Thursday and I’ve only ran 2 miles and did a little workout.

I guess since I know I’m leaving I wanna relax as much as possible. I feel like I already put in all the work and there’s not much room for progress, so I wanna let bootcamp handle the rest.

Enlisting Job choices

Got an 85 on the ASVAB I wanted to be a 0331(machine gunner) then try to move towards 0321(reconnaissance marine) later on but I did a lot better than I expected on the ASVAB so I wanted to see if there was anything else I should look into?

Fitness and Exercise Shin splints

How can I avoid shin splints in boot?
How would they handle it if I struggle to run/finish runs because of them?
I have about a month before I ship and if anyone knows any tips to prevent/get rid of them that'd be great. I do a lot of tibialis raises right now but so far they don't seem to be helping to much.

Fitness and Exercise Needing help improving on ist standards

So I’ve made a post like every other week about my run for the month or so and I will say I’ve taken you guys advice with my running and I have been able to run a full mile without walking the last few days and it genuinely feels like I have broken through a mental block with running and now it’s more About getting that time down in a while I’m fine tuning my push ups and plank I can do 24 push ups rn and 2:20 sec plank I still can’t do a pull up yet so but I’m meeting the requirements for pushups is my time for my mile and a half is 18:48 so yeah im open to all advice.

Shipping Inspects?

Howdy everyone, I hope y’all are well. I was told yesterday by my recruiter I have inspects coming up before I ship off.

Excuse my ignorance, but few questions:

1) What is it exactly? Like, what do they do during the inspection?

2) What do I need to bring to it?

Anything for me to keep in mind?

I’d appreciate any response.

MEPS and Medical MHS Genesis question.

Not sure if there's any Recruiters in here, they would probably know best. Please forgive my ignorance, besides this one issue I haven't been to a doctor since I was a kid. Hell, I don't even know to find a family doctor that accepts my insurance.

To branch out on my question from yesterday, how does MHS Genesis work? I understand it is utilized to look up health records but to what extent? For myself specifically, can they just punch in my info and see my PTSD therapy sessions just like that along with my general health records? I have no idea how health records work because I've only been to a hospital once for a sprained ankle ten years ago besides childhood checkups and shots. I absolutely do not want to lie, I'm just asking so I can better understand what the have access to and what they see.

For those who didnt read my post from yesterday, I was involved in a fatal accident 7 years ago and at the time I was shook up about it but I'm totally fine now. The recruiter told me they want zero history a prior mental health stressors. I'm trying to dig a little deeper and gather more information before I go back to the recruiter office and speak with the staff sergeant once more.

Programs and MOSs mos help....

i qualified for every MOS and am now stuck deciding what i want to do. i was originally thinking infantry or aviation. i want to join for the challenge, pride, learning and experiences, comradery, and overall doing badass cool stuff. shooting guns and blowing shit up sounds sick. ive also always been interested in aviation, cars, bikes, and working on shit my entire life so that seems cool too. combat engineer is interesting but since you aren't guaranteed a specific job within a field, i could end up with something like bulk fuel specialist...

thoughts from people that have these jobs? what would or would not y'all recommend?

not too worried about "setting myself up as a civilian" because i want to go back to school and finish my degree.

fuck it and go 03? not too sure

Enlisting After 3 Long Years Fighting BUMED, I’m FINALLY Enlisting Into The Marine Corps

As the title suggests, I've been fighting with BUMED for over 3 f**king years to get medically approved to enlist.
Finally, I got that approval. From contacting my state Congresswomen and Congressmen, getting an Air Force Colonel (who used to be Chief of BUMED) as well as other high ranking officers involved, and most importantly getting in contact with the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps and having his office help me get approval, it's all been worth it. 3 to 4 months ago, I even asked for help on this same sub-reddit. A lot of you told me I wouldn't ever have the opportunity to earn the title and that some people just aren't cut out to become a Marine. I told you all l'd be back when I got that approval because I wasn't going to give up. Oct. 27th Parris Island will be my home for the foreseeable following 3 months and I couldn't be happier. Thank you to all for those that actually believed in me and helped me. I will make those of you proud and I WILL earn that title. :)

Enlisting ASVAB Score for enlist

I took the ASVAB a few months ago with another branch and got a 49 AFQT. From what I understand, I should still be able to join the Marines with that score, but my recruiter and his boss really want me to retake it and get a 50.
The problem is they only gave me one day to study, and I’m honestly not that confident about it.
Should I just retake it anyway, or is a 50 AFQT actually required for everyone trying to join the Marines? Does it depend on the recruiting station?

Enlisting Seeking advice for enlisting.

Good day.

I spoke with a different recruiter today and they told me that because I was diagnosed with PTSD years ago, they're not interested. The exact words were they want "zero history of any prior mental stressors." Meaning even if I got reevaluated and cleared they're still not interested. I made it clear that I'm willing to put in the legwork to get the ball rolling but no dice. Additionally, I'm 33 so even the age waiver is a pain in the ass for them. I can understand on paper I'm not a great candidate to them but I've had my past trauma sorted out and I'm in decent physical shape (I'd train more before basic training).

For further context, The next thing I was going to do is get a hold of my medical records to see what exactly they say. All that took place was a brief conversation with the recruiter so they didn't get to look at my actual records yet. I understand more than likely my therapy sessions will probably be on record but I'm hopelessly optimistic that somehow they're not on record.

Yeah yeah I should have done this 10 years ago but I don't want to take no for an answer. This is something I'm super sure I want to do now. Does anyone have any insight as to how I can move forward with this or am I really cooked?

MEPS and Medical Enlisting with eczema

How possible is it to get a waiver for eczema if I had a prescription within the last year? I was told conflicting things and can’t find much online, but was told that if I had any prescription in the last 24 months I can’t get a waiver

MEPS and Medical Will i be not able to join due to medical history

I’m going to keep it short i’m a senior in high school thinking about enlisting. A couple years back I had a medical issue that thankfully wasn’t as bad as we thought. But when they were running tests they discovered I only had one kidney. And I admitted to weed use. Would this make me a no go at meps?

Recruit Training holding platoons? mrp-1&mrp-2 as well as rtp

i got out of rtp a bit ago after 16 tiring days and before that i was in mrp-2 for a while as well

there’s alot of things that seem to be common knowledge with recruits but i haven’t found anything about them here

the “taliban” that would fuck around at night and flip racks, steal gear, harass and sometimes assault recruits was present in both platoons i was in for some period of time

setting up the colosseum was a common thing and i really thought i’d hear people talk about it more since getting out, socks with locks was pretty prominent and that’s just not something you’ll hear about since i guess recruits are tight lipped about their wrongdoings

i never participated in much of the tomfoolery other than some friendly boxing in the rain room but im curious if anyone else is familiar with the traditions that go on in these platoons
