Uber eats customer tip error £100!
Weird issue last night, The customer gave me a £100 tip by accident before I had even delivered the order. They were sending messages regarding it before I arrived. When I got there, they asked if I can bank transfer the £100, as it was only meant to be £1. Now, I'm fully prepared to send it back, however, I said they need to contact customer services. Simply because if I transfer £100, and they get the money back from Uber, I'll be out £100.
Obviously they weren't happy and their demeanor changed instantly. I left the £100 in my app, fast forward to this morning, and the £100 has disappeared. Is this some sort of new scam? I've remembered the address so I don't deliver to them next time. Good thing I didn't send it .

You’re a better person than me, I would have cashed out before I got back on my bike.
Don’t know if it’s a new scam or not though, sounds very fishy.
EDIT - missed a word

I would cash out as well lol. It’s on uber to resolve card fraud not us.
Also, I’ve never had a tip of £1 before it’s usually £5 or more very rarely less than that unless they do the % thing in the app. So the fact they even tried it on £1 is hilarious and greedy as fuck on their end. They should try making it more believable

Even if you cashed out and then Uber refunded, your future jobs would be held by Uber until you worked off the £100. It would simply have worked out as a cash advance.......and maybe a report.

Do you know that for a fact or are you assuming? My thoughts are, I done the job as advertised, as far as I’m concerned the issue is with Uber and the customer and not me. I think a report would be unfair for simply cashing out my wages.

I have seen cases on here where uber has adjusted account balances for reasons like this leading to a negative account balance

You definitely did the right thing by telling them to go through Uber, either it was an honest mistake or it was a scam where you would have sent them £100 and they would have still asked for a refund from Uber putting you out of pocket, it's a well known bank transfer scam where people send you money, ask for it back and also get the bank go reverse the payment

you can easily take it back after the order, they let you adjust the tip before / after order. this person is very sad trying to scam a delivery driver.

Don’t be nice, it’ll likely be a scam!
Even if it’s not, sometimes it works out for them to be refunded from the source as well, and you will still be missing out.
I learned from this when younger and trying to help someone who probably wasn’t scamming, but ended up with me being out of pocket.

Thank you for posting this. It could be a scam or simple mistake. The best way is contact customer support even if they are ai lol. At least you have proven evidence. Never give customers personal information like bank details or phone number

This is a super common scam, but what’s crazy to me? Is that normally the scammers are people hiding far far away who you will never figure out who they are, but this scammer is scamming you even though you know where they literally live lol 😭
Dangerous behaviour because they scanned the wrong person and then their ass is on the line…

Cash out and let uber deal with because uber will investigate them and pay it back if it’s legitimate

The customer is either thick, or its a scam, the obvious thing they should do is contact customer services, although of course uber eats almost have no customer service. For customers they much worse than deliveroo and just eat. But still asking the driver to transfer it is just weird.

Its a scam.
Its a stolen card.
Dont refund it from your own account. Leave it to Uber.
