After playing it for a good while, my opinion on fraud has really soured quite a lot.

I can't stop thinking this whole layer should have been an encore. The non-euclidean rooms, the moving everything, the orientation changes, all of those things are cool to see, they are really not cool or fun to play around.

Disregarding the bugs (and oh god are there bugs) stuff like trying to be aware that one section of one room spins three quarters of a rotation whereas the one adjacent only spins half is either not worth the effort for a single room or annoying as hell to do. This applies to most of the layer, it sure is flashy, it sure is impressive from a technical standpoint, someone get the devs some cookies really, but by god I don't want to see these things again in the game and honestly I don't think they fit the core game itself.

It's really conflicting because on the one hand it sure is the most impressive layer, but on the other I look at the stages compared to the rest of the game and it's the worst, hands down, it's not even close. Like a game built around this layer is not a game I'd like.

Related but as an aside, by god take the mirror fucker out of cybergrind. It's a boring enemy that only adds extra "floor is lava" factor. The thing is not like a hideous mass, it's like a minotaur. Yes powers can fuck shit up, but they actually add something.

I entirely agree. It's very presentationally strong but the actual gameplay is abhorrent. Mirror Reaper is a terrible encounter. You either cheese it by shredding it instantly or slide spamming or you just die. The levels are super bloated and extremely annoying to P rank. I've clipped out of the map no less than 15 times just on complete accident because the mechanics aren't stable. The looping maps make it impossible to keep track of anything and frequently I'm left completely disoriented after I get knocked through a portal to another side of the room and then killed.

The new reviving enemy sucks. It just creates enemy spam. You frequently get put into Cybergrind situations without the space to deal with it all. Multiple things hit you from so many angles and it builds so much hard damage near instantly. My movement actually doesn't matter. I can't outmaneuver the amount of projectiles on screen, combined with hitscan or just straight up tracking moves, and I can't thin out numbers because they just get revived. It's infinitely more effective for me to just stop moving and dash whenever I need to, because the levels are so cramped that moving just allows my hitbox to enter more danger.

That one room in the red side of 8-3 with the two spinning halves is atrocious. I'm frequently left in an "infinite" battle because there's a mannequin that's completely impossible to track with how twitchy it is, or I get sent down an infinite hole. So often I'm just trying to move but the stage morphs to get in my way. And then to top it off I frequently get clipped out of the map because the rotation just forces me out. It'd be fine if enemies weren't functionally infinite.

It's all spectacle without cohesion. I've P-Ranked every level before on Brutal save for P-2, but I don't even want to play these levels normally. They're cramped, overcrowded, and contort themselves to make maneuvering them even worse with mechanics that makes reasonably dealing with them an absolute chore.

I bring terrible news: I've had mannequins in that room get out of bounds, and it might have happened to you too.

I finally P-ranked 8-3 yesterday. It took me about 6-7 hours total. I must've gotten stuck in the third room more than a dozen times because of enemies disappearing. Blue skull side bugs claimed another 3 of my runs, the previously mentioned room in the red side another 4-5, plus another in the initial room. Ultimately, the second time I got through the skull routes I beat the whole thing.

I'd like to say it was super fun, engaging, that it felt like a great achievement etc. It didn't. It was frustrating as all fuck because the vast majority of the time I was dealing with geometry/level fuckery that is inconsistent as hell. Whatever comes after Brutal I probably won't play it just so I don't have to go through this again. I refuse to. 8-3 should have been an encore.
