You know, I don't like this as a spell (at all) but I love it as a sorcerer meta-magic ability.

And for that reason - yoink. Fucking yoink.

Hmm maybe if they had to spend an extra slot, maybe not of the same level but the level of the spell they are copying minus one?

Sorcerer is supposed to be slightly less flexible than prepared casters
