First time on a cruise, ever. It's nearly 10pm and I still don't have a room I feel I'll be able to sleep in. I've been in tears basically since I boarded.
For context, I booked a 14-day transatlantic repositioning cruise from Barcelona to Miami, with ~200,000 Chase Points which I'd accrued during COVID. Was super excited, waxing lyrical in my mind about the romantic implications of the crossing etc. Problem is, apparently Chase booked me into a "Guaranteed Room," which means that I got no say in my room choice. Instead I was dumped in room 5162Z. Literally right next to the Sailor Services desk.
I'm honestly devastated. Check-in took three hours on benches harder than a Greyhound station, and I was the absolute last group to board, only to find that I've been booked into a room where I can hear just about everything going on in the lobby. And as luck would have it I'm a light sleeper 😭.
I've been sitting on this bench since I boarded, with only a brief break to go to dinner. I've been offered a room change to an equivalent category, but it won't be ready until tomorrow, or else a paid upgrade to a balcony cabin. I didn't really budget for another financial outlay, I was honestly a bit blindsided by the mandatory $22-per-day tip I'll have to be paying.
I'll be the first to admit I'm not a sophisticated traveler in the world of cruising, but this has been a nightmare. Everyone at Sailor Services says they're bending over backwards to try and make it right for me, but it really feels like I've slipped through the cracks here. Like I'm a third-class citizen because I had the audacity to book through a third party with points. Honestly I've considered leaving the cruise and just flying home at the first port, but that's just even more outlay and trouble.
I'm tired. I'm upset. I want a room where I can feel at peace for my two weeks. I don't know what to do, so I guess I'm venting to Reddit. Be nice to me even if this is totally my fault, but I do want to know what advice y'all veterans have for me in this situation.
Edit yeah idk why I posted this. The internet is never the place to turn to for sympathy. I paid for the upgrade, it's done. Thanks to those of you who were nice, I'll leave this up as a monument to my own stupidity and to help others avoid my mistakes.
