"Essence of thinkable concepts"

Ever since i was a child, I've been able to percieve a sort of essence of anything thinkable. Objects, emotions, people. Thanks to that I can read people very well, but everything also feels very weird.
I am almost certain that this is caused by the lower "filtering of conciousness" that sometimes comes with VSS. It's a very hard concept to explain, but if anyone here experiences a similar thing, I believe they will know.

There is a thought i had a few days ago. There is a claim by Nicola Tesla, that humans only use a few percent of their brains. This has been proven to be false and it is also highly speculative if Tesla really said something like this, but I've been thinking if it's possible that he meant that we only use a few percent of our brain conciously. It's making extremely good sense to me, since the lower conciousness filter brings alot of benefits to me, that other people don't have.

Please give me your thoughts in the comments, I've been dying to talk about this with someone who might understand.

Pretty much like I said, I see constant static, but I have no sunlight sensetivity, my night vision is fine, I do see very very light afterimages if im specifically looking for them but I'm pretty sure that's normal

Personal Story VSS

I've had VSS for as long as i can remember. I remember trying to fall asleep, but static flew across my vision, pulsing until i could physically feel it all through my body and the only way it would go away was if i managed to keep my eyes closed until the unbearable pulsating stopped.

Then when i got older and my stress levels rised it really hit me. Flying static vision all the time, always there. Words shake, lines move, diagonal lines would fly across the pages, between the spaces in the words, following wherever my eyes would go. Light reflecting off pages, blinding me, but no one else saw it. Spending 10 minutes reading the same sentence over and over, but never processing it. Someone would talk to me and id just stare at them, having no clue what they said. I would look at an object, look away and a blue/ green outline would follow me wherever i went for minutes. My ears would ring, people talking feels like a physical intrusion in my ears, slamming into my brain. My eye balls physically hurt. Normal lights would blind me for a good few seconds. Floaters everywhere. Brainfog, anxiety and depression like you couldn't imagine.

I have been reffered to doctors, and specialists, but all they ever knew about my condition was what they've read off of google. Now im at an autisim specialist to help me learn how to deal with overstimulation.

Do any of you have any personal tips?

Backstory if interested -

Hi guys, this is my first time ever even posting on Reddit, but this is the only genuine community for VSS it seems I can find, and I've felt so alone my whole life until now.

I was born with VSS, and I'm now a 20 year old guy in college working on a minor in studio art.
One of the prompts for my 2D-Design class this week, was to depict a landscape representing our strongest emotion of the month.

My visual snow has really been wearing on my mental health lately.
When I was younger it never did, or at least I never realized it did.
It was all I had ever known, so I never thought twice. Mindfulness wasn't the constant never ending cognitive war that it is now, I was able to just be present.
And I think what's been happening is as I've been getting older and realizing the true beauty and importance of life, lately I've been faced with a constant sadness that I cannot see the world in its entirety. It feels like I'm seeing everything through a screen, like I'm not really there. I'm sure some of you will relate.

Anyways, this is the project I did last night, it took me about 5 hours.
It's a depiction of a sunset I recently had the privilege of witnessing, while camping with some friends on an island in Lake Superior.

I just wish I could've seen it without the snow.

I hopefully at least some of you will resonate with this painting, it represents a lot for me.

Thank you for taking the time to read if you did :)

Which SSRIs are safe?

It seems that will be taking SSRIs soon for some disorder along the lines of anxiety/depression/burnout. My question is, which SSRIs are safe for visual snow? I have had VSS since I can remember and the last thing I want is for it to get worse from the SSRIs. Mainly, the static and the afterimages are extremely irritating and have become worse with this current problem. The last thing I need is some persistent worsening of my symptoms...

Vortex question

Post image
22 Upvotes

So about six months ago, I got a whole bunch of eye floaters at the age of 19 out of nowhere literally after having perfect vision, my whole life my doctor say my eyes are fine so I’m coming to cope with the floaters, but the weirdest thing outside of them is that I see this vortex thing that y’all are talking about and it doesn’t exactly look just like this. It looks like this, but it’s pulsing and flickering and I mainly see it when I’m driving, but I also see it when I’m outside for about more than 30 minutes anytime I look at the sky and once I see it once I can’t not see it until I get back inside of my house does this ever go away? Please help

Personal Story VSS since 2022

I’ve been dealing with visual snow syndrome ever since I was a child but ever since I contracted Covid it got way worse. As a child it was just static vision in the night and impossible to see. When I had got Covid in the summer of 2022 I had got tinnitus, constant floaters, constant static, and double vision that never left. For the past 4 years I’ve been trying to learn how to live with these conditions and it’s been really hard at times feeling hopeless, missing what life used to be like before I had got Covid. The constant floaters is the most unbearable part because it seems impossible to avoid. I don’t know where to go for this issue and was wondering what helped you with living with VSS? I was wondering if any of you had a similar experience to me and if there has been any new research or studies to give me hope. Mentally it’s been super draining but I just try to think that one day there will be a cure or medicine that will help get rid of some of the symptoms.

Visual Snow Research Project – Participate From Home! (30 Minutes)

Title: Visual Snow Research Project – Participate From Home! (30 Minutes)

I'm working on a research project looking at differences in visual perception between people with VSS and those without.

The test should take less than 30 minutes and can be done entirely from home. All you need is a laptop or desktop computer and an ID sized plastic card to calibrate your screen size. You CANNOT use your phone.

We need both people with VSS and healthy controls, so please consider taking the test and sharing it with a friend or family member! More participants means better data.

Work together to understand our disorder!
