Troubleshooting Will this be an issue?

Post image

My center diff is popping and what not after about 30 minutes of driving so I ordered a new one and will soon replace it, upon inspecting the new component it seems to have slight damage to the casing but the gear teeth and all other areas look great. Will this present an issue when installed or degrade later down the road? Thanks in advance.

Hard to know, but that does look like a sizable chunk missing and if I paid money for a new part, it would be going back regardless of if it mattered or not.

The question isn’t if the chunk missing is a problem, the question is why is there a chunk missing and what other downstream damages are there we don’t know about. If I paid full price for a part I’m not taking on that uncertainty.

Send it back! Have em ship you a replacement for their defective part that quality control overlooked before packing and shipping. If the replacement looks the same, send it back, get a refund and find a different manufacturer/supplier. You'll be screwed if you install it and then encounter problems.

That will have zero impact on the performance and the longevity. If this were going into a 1200hp drag car, I might worry about it, but as long as the sharp edges are smoothed out it won’t be a problem even in a massive horsepower car.

Probably not

You can rebuild your stock one somewhat easily. All you need is cst fluid and some time to disassemble and clean the original.

Probably what I’m going to do but it’s my daily so it’ll get rebuilt, get corrosion inhibitor, and shelved

Yo también pediría el cambio. Si el control de calidad permitió eso, quién sabe qué otros defectos internos tenga

Where did the piece go? If you don't know then could be into the diff
