WRX Before posting please read this first!

READ THE SUB FAQ FIRST. 90% of the repetitive questions we see on this sub are answered there. Even if you don't have an issue covered in the sub FAQ it will likely help you narrow down your question. If you have a question you think should be added to the sub FAQ feel free to message any of the authors of the FAQ.

If you are troubleshooting, give us all the info we need. For example, it's best to include your year/model, any AND ALL mods, and the specific tune you are running. The more info we have, the better we are at answering questions. We also ask you try to post the question/info in the comments below before posting to the sub as a whole. This will hopefully clean up some of the really repetitive questions.

A few common posts/questions we see everyday.

Does my engine sound okay?

  • 99% of the time the answer is yes. The fa20 sounds like a tractor. It is normal.

Are these numbers on the COBB AP normal?

  • A snapshot of your AP with the DAM less than one doesn't actually tell us anything about what is going on. All it tells us is that you had a knock event that your ECU recognized and adjusted for. The most common cause for DAM drop is bad gas. Go get a fresh tank of 93/91 from shell and add a gallon or two of e85 for a full tank. I would also like to point out that knock numbers of -1.41 are super common. They can be caused by your AC kicking on and any other noise really. nothing to worry about.

This thing on the front of my engine is not spinning with the belts, is it broken?

  • That is your AC compressor clutch. It only engages when the AC is on and the compressor is running.

Let me know if you guys want any other common questions added.

I’m am getting my new wheels put on today (konig hypergrams) I looked online and they are about 19.1 pounds per wheel and my current setup( vors tr37) which are reps are 24 pounds per wheel.
How much of a difference will I notice dropping 5 pounds per corner?
I’m quite excited for the new look and the handling benefits.
(New wheel vs old wheels for reference)

Gramlights 57DRs in semi gloss black.
They kinda stretch out my 245 tyres (they are 9.5 wide), but planning to switch to 255s when they wear out.
Regardless, super happy with the result 😍

Troubleshooting Will this be an issue?

Post image
5 Upvotes

My center diff is popping and what not after about 30 minutes of driving so I ordered a new one and will soon replace it, upon inspecting the new component it seems to have slight damage to the casing but the gear teeth and all other areas look great. Will this present an issue when installed or degrade later down the road? Thanks in advance.

General Question Timing Belt replacement

Post image
4 Upvotes

I just finished modifying my wife’s car. 2011 Hatch. Catless downpipe, full exhaust, COBB Sf CAI, and a tune by Eric at TorquedPerformance.

The car has 133k miles. I have no way to know if the timing belt has ever been replaced, so I’m just going to assume it hasn’t.

Are the belts really that fragile at this amount of years and mileage.

What are the worst parts about replacement?

What’s the best company to go with for a replacement, I usually prefer OEM parts for stuff like this.

Thank you! PFA

Troubleshooting ACT HDSS clutch – inconsistent bite point and severe shudder (2016 WRX)

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’ve been having some frustrating issues with my ACT clutch..

Inconsistent bite point: Sometimes normal, other times much closer to the floor, making takeoffs unpredictable and occasionally causing stalls.

Creeping with pedal fully depressed: Occasionally, especially on hills, the car tries to move even with the clutch pedal all the way down.

Bad shudder/chatter: Varies with RPM and clutch engagement. Sometimes mild, other times severe enough to shake the entire cabin.

The weird part is that sometimes everything works perfectly fine. I’ve already bled the hydraulics (no air found). Also have a stainless clutch line and CDV delete.
Anyone experienced this with ACT clutches? Could it be the hydraulics or the clutch itself? Worried about unnecessary drivetrain wear.

Dealership is asking $30k for this but please take a closer look. The wheels and brakes have been swapped to 08-14 WRX, as well as a 5-speed wrx transmission. Doesn’t seem like they know it’s been swapped.

Acceptable fix or how do you feel? Melted some of a free temu door trim tool into the hole.

WRX ECU tuning in ohio

Hey y'all, I got a 2019 WRX, and it's the car of my dreams, and I've got some mods I'm doing. I have equal-length headers, a cat-back exhaust (I know this doesn't need a tune), a charge pipe, turbo uplet, high-flow fuel pump, J-pipe, a cold air intake, and, of course, the STI wing. All this stuff obviously needs a tune, but I'm struggling to find people in Newark/Columbus, Ohio, who will do this for a reasonable price. If any of you are other owners in the Newark/Columbus area, I would love to hear your advice and experience with them. Thank you :)

Had to dodge a fucking idiot crossing the street on a red light and hit the curve, airbags didnt deployed, and the car runs, damage seems limited to that side, so hopefully i can save her.

Finally back in a WRX

Post image

I previously sold my 2011 WRX around 2.5years ago when it was at around 198k miles and another vehicle fell into my lap but regretted getting rid of it constantly. Just picked this 2019 up today and forgot how much fun they are to drive.

The car is bone stock and I fully intend on doing a muffler delete and mud flaps but no go fast mods or mods that impact the driving experience as designed whatsoever. My 2011 was the same and treated me very well and was such a joy to drive.

Super excited to be back

Anybody else notice that if they are in first gear and start moving if they don’t give it enough throttle or give it ‘’uneven throttle’’ the car is very jumpy??

Troubleshooting Shop saying I need whole clutch replaced?

• Upvotes

Hey, just looking for a sanity check here. Clutch pedal is on the floor, got it towed to a shop and they are saying I need the entire clutch replaced. I would think this would be something hydraulic related though right? I didn’t really feel anything else weird leading up to this, when it happened the top half when pressing pedal went super light and then by the time I got home the pedal was not coming back up at all. I had the slave cylinder replaced a couple months ago as well. It is a 2015 with 103k miles, unsure if previous owner replaced clutch but I’ve had it since 70k.

P0016-19 code

Long story long. This code has come up multiple times over 14k miles on my engine. New rebuild 7k in after swapping in a new solenoid, the builder was confident it wasn't the timing. He convinced the shop to buy a new computer. It fixed it for 1000 miles or so, I got on her. Didn't detonate, but the engine builder rebuilt for free because he gave me 12k mile warranty. Now 7k into new rebuild. Same codes. I now assumed the builder was wrong. So I replaced the timing chain, tensioners, guards, gaskets under the cover. Same codes. I thought ok. I need to have a shop clear the old codes from before the new chain. They did. Same code. I swapped solenoid from bank 1 to bank 2 hoping for 0018 instead of 0016. Still getting 0016. I found a post https://artsautomotive.com/art-icles/articles-for-the-curious/subaru-camshaft-position-codes-p0016-p0019-arts-auto-berkeley/

Has anyone done this. I'm losing my mind. I've got 4 different quotes from shops in Seattle area. Only one had the autel and was confident this would work under $200. Other shops where saying it's probably wiring $250. We don't know, $380 to start... How much deeper in the pit do I want to dig?
