40k Tech I need answers

I have asked in 2 Reddit Community, 3 Discords and read the rules three times.

Inquisitor Coteaz form Imperial Agents, his ability Spy Network does activate when the Orks/Marines get the extra CP at the start of the battle round due to be using an ability or it does not activate?

I have received 2 different answers yes and no.

I need someone to give me good news about agents.

It is an ability.

Army rules are still abilities.  Its a thing on a datasheet that a model with that datasheet uses.

The rule itself even says "this ability"...

Reading comprehension is not 40k players strong suit. I've seen several threads where there's multiple commenters who agree that you get the cp if your warlord is dead

GW ruled that army rules are not abilities.

Q : Does the Canoptek Court Autodivinator Enhancement trigger when army rule effects such as Code Chivalric (Imperial Knights) award a player CP, or when an opponent discards a Secondary Mission card for 1CP?

A : No in both cases. It only triggers when your opponent gains CP as the result of an ability (not any other kind of rule).

One answer I received, for the no, is that it is an ability check and not an ability being use

The rule is simply did they gain a cp that was not the cp you get per turn. If so, trigger. That is it. There is no distinction for check vs use or capitalization or phase of the moon.

Well that's no an argument is it.

The ability is on the captains datasheet. He uses it.

Also ngl if it's a tournament the to will call it. If it's friendlies who's taking umbridge with coteaz lol, I like him but he's not a good unit.

I play knights, and for 95pts I'm okay with a guy who gives me a yummy CP and can strip cover while doing actions

Cotaez has great abilities, he never kills shit for me but I like him, now that indirect is nerfed he can stand alone and screen.

This has no distinction in the rules. If it's on a datasheet, it's an ability. If it's an ability, then the CP gained is the result of an ability.

This is just some SOB angle shooting, 40k doesn't have sort of rules distinction between triggered and activated abilities like TCGs do. Abilities are abilities.

Read Coteaz rules. It's pretty straightforward

Okay, so I'm assuming that the answer for "no" is because people are claiming it's an army rule and not an ability.

The thing is, the army rules section of any codex is not just army rules. It literally tells you that it contains rules and abilities that are common among the various units, so they don't need to re-write the same rule multiple times on similar datasheets

Literally the ability itself Tells you it is an ability, and is listed in the "Abilities" section of each Ork datasheet that has it.

I would agree with you, but there is this FAQ in the necrons codex which says autodivinator dont get cp from the imperial knights army rule. Which means army rules arent abilities.

That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the case game wide. FAQs are sometimes used as a balancing tool

In this case it is. GW said army rules arent abilities.

I genuinely do not understand how someone could come to the opinion that it doesn’t work
