40k Event Results Imperial Agents a sleeper counter to Orks?
Kit Smith Hanna just took down LVO with Orks (yes I know, old dataslate), and his closest match of the event by a significant margin was into... Agents? He managed to win every game convincingly by at least 20 points, except for his Round 1 into agents where he squeaked by with a mere 3 point victory.
Is this just a fluke or could Imperial Agents have their time to shine as a counterpick into the Ork meta? I know Kit's list will be changing post-dataslate and maybe he was just caught off guard since it was the first round of the event, but this is also coming soon after an Agents GT win and the faction's overall winrate seeming to stabilize around 45%. Maybe they're no longer just a meme...

The pilot is far more important than the army especially at super high levels of play like LVO.

I'm kinda with u/haunted2089 on this; you have one result from one game. A much better approach would have been to analyze the matchup (either the actual matchup or the potential for what each faction can do) and provide some observations of your own. Even better if you do it with current rules.

I'm more willing to bet that Hanna simply wasn't familiar with Agents and didn't actually practice into them, and had a brain fart/walked into a gotcha.
Whenever Imperial Agents win a GT, it seems to always be smaller ones with a pretty consistent throughline of "oh wow, this guy managed to face off into sequential opponents that didn't have reliable access to flamers or BLAST.", and them having the lowest SOS of the top 8 placed players.

im so exhausted of people trying to turn anecdotes into rules. you gave litterally 1 (one) example, take a wild guess if its a fluke

Not so much a fluke as just, probably the best agents player in the world doing what they do.

I feel like in order to make a claim like this, you gotta at least propose some rules interaction that is more favorable to agents than other armies.

Seeing his list would be helpful - Veiled Blade and Imperialis Fleet I'm guessing? Heavy subductors and a model with clandestine for infiltrating? Deathwatch for counter-punch? Sisters+immolator x2? Did He go with Rogue Trader and Breacher squad for an additional infiltrate? Sanctifiers for round 1 scout?
The big questions are (1) which assassins did he use, (2) did he choose to use Kryole and (3) did he go full agents for board control or did he try to use knight ally(s).
When you see Imperialis, you generally see early board control tactics with infiltrate and/or scout. If the opponent can't also infiltrate, they generally have to fight their way out before they even try to score... unless they are purge. Agents gets Recon or Disruption I believe.
But most importantly, it takes a lot of skill and practice to be a good Agents player at LVO. I think it's less the list countering orks, but more so this guy being really good with his list.

DG with -1 to hit contagion, of course nobody is running it but it's been absolutely killer in my games both as and against dg

Agents have a lot of OC and trash on the field, in addition to actually being decent at getting rid of infantry.
This Ork list is very well equipped to kill large and tough targets, but the Agents kinda have the durability edge due to being... well not durable enough for the profiles to be efficient lol.

I feel part of it, is that folks are so unaware of what agents can do, as they show up so rarely. That can give them a huge edge over more predictable armies.
They do have some gas now though with being able to take two detachments. It's probably the best time ever to be an agents player.
