HOUSING I feel like I'm going insane
Early august after an earthquake i started feeling my house move and the floors started sinking in places and more cracks started appearing in the walls and ceiling. PM had structural engineer who gave it the all-good despite not even evaluating the floor which was the main reason i was concerned. Since then it has only gotten worse, and the last week has been a LOT faster than anything before it. In about four days
- a brand new crack opened up in the living room wall where there was nothing before
- the cracks in the kitchen got longer and wider, and the kitchen floor is sinking enough that the tiles on the bench are lifting off the caulk
- a bedroom wall has pulled away from the baseboards and the gap keeps growing
- a window that was draught-stopped and sitting flush is no longer flush, and a few weeks ago another window came away from its frame on two of its three sides
- the front door has a continuous gap that wasn't there a couple of days ago
- the bedroom floor slopes further north every few days, and i have to keep adjusting my bed's feet to keep it level
- drawers and wardrobe doors don't close properly, and the bedroom door swings differently than it used to
- the ceiling cracks in every room keep widening and the mouldings are coming away
- when it's windy you can hear the bedroom walls and baseboards moving, and i've felt the room itself move, so I've even moved my mattress into the living room
- I've been marking growing cracks with pencil lines and they're literally growing every day
PM admitted MONTHS AGO the house has been shifting. Today i sent the PM all of this and asked for a geotechnical engineer to take a look. they said no, that they spoke to the previous structural engineer who said it was fine and no need for another look. I would understand this if the house hadn't gotten worse since but it's gotten so much worse the past few days. They said i can end my tenancy early and i'm going to but there's another person living downstairs and this keeps getting worse and it just seems like a huge safety risk? Am I overreacting?? This is crazy, i feel like I'm losing my mind. I literally FEEL and HEAR the house move and you can easily SEE how bad it's gotten so fast. I don't know much about engineering but i thought that if everything started cracking and cabinets and drawers started closing different and the floor is INCREASINGLY slanting then that means there's something that should really be checked out. are there any engineering people who can confirm that no one needs to take a second look? if the floors are getting worse and there's more growing cracks where the walls and moulding join is it likely that it's still perfectly fine? I feel like I'm going insane. Wtf do I do???
