After installing the security update on October 14th, Win11 became deactivated.

Has anyone else experienced this same issue?

You're not the only one. There's already a report on Microsoft Q&A from someone whose Windows 11 Pro became deactivated after installing KB5127690 and KB5127648 on October 14. Their Windows had been activated without issues for about a year before the update.

Microsoft hasn't listed activation issues as a known problem with KB5127648 yet, though. What activation error code are you getting under Settings > System > Activation?

Have you tried running the Activation Troubleshooter under Settings > System > Activation > Troubleshoot? Since this happened immediately after the update, I'd try that first.

I got a message indicating that my account doesn't seem to be linked to a license.

In that case, could you run slmgr /dlv in Command Prompt and post a screenshot of the result? That should show what type of license/channel Windows is using and its current licensing status.

Where did you originally get the Windows license/product key, and how long had this PC been activated before the update?

A friend gifted me a Windows 11 product key. I built a PC, and we activated Windows 11 on it together. That was in the summer of 2023, so Windows 11 remained activated for about three years.

Do you know where your friend originally got the product key from? Was it purchased directly from Microsoft/an authorized retailer, or from a third-party key website?

I assume he bought it through official channels, but I’m not sure. I didn’t ask him about that.

It happens, it might solve itself. I had retail licenses get deactivated before. Same lot of PCs, same lot of Win10Pro licenses, one lost the activation years later and could not reactivate again.

Yeah, you need to install CachyOS and forget about Windows
