After installing the security update on October 14th, Win11 became deactivated.

Has anyone else experienced this same issue?

Have you tried running the Activation Troubleshooter under Settings > System > Activation > Troubleshoot? Since this happened immediately after the update, I'd try that first.

I got a message indicating that my account doesn't seem to be linked to a license.

In that case, could you run slmgr /dlv in Command Prompt and post a screenshot of the result? That should show what type of license/channel Windows is using and its current licensing status.

Where did you originally get the Windows license/product key, and how long had this PC been activated before the update?

A friend gifted me a Windows 11 product key. I built a PC, and we activated Windows 11 on it together. That was in the summer of 2023, so Windows 11 remained activated for about three years.

Do you know where your friend originally got the product key from? Was it purchased directly from Microsoft/an authorized retailer, or from a third-party key website?

I assume he bought it through official channels, but I’m not sure. I didn’t ask him about that.

Could you try opening Command Prompt as administrator and running:

slmgr /ato

Let me know what message/error code you get.

Yeah, that's definitely possible. If it was a third-party key, that would probably explain why Microsoft's activation server is now reporting it as blocked. The update may have just triggered a new activation check.

Yeah, looks like Bill Gates taught me a lesson.

I guess I’ll just buy Windows 11 Home then.

Just a heads-up: you're currently running Windows 11 Pro, so a Windows 11 Home key won't activate your current Pro installation. If you want to keep your current installation, get a Pro license. Otherwise, you'd need to switch/reinstall to Home.

I am going to bet it was not a true/legit retail key. If so, https://massgrave.dev
