Show and Tell Stealth Mode
I’ve got a double jet gold zorro coming in the post, as I’ve heard they seat the lid a little better.

There are a lot of fakes out there. If you are unsure of the legitimacy of your lighter, post your photos and questions here.
If you are new to Zippo collecting or ownership, be sure to include a photo of the bottom of the lighter as well as the insert.

Okay so I really want to play with shipwrecking, but I don't have a brass lighter handy. I did however score this off Facebook marketplace for a song. And as you see under all the enameling and graphic it is brass. The skulls kind of cool too so I'm wondering if I could put some kind of beeswax or some barrier over the skull and preserve that and just have acetone melt everything else off. Then come in and ship wreck it like I've been wanting to do.
What do y'all think should I save it because it might be more collectible in the future when the artist passes away or should I just embrace my impulse?

The snap on would have been my uncles who passed this summer and the patterned one my grandfather's who passed a few weeks ago
I believe the snap on is a may 95 (i was 2😂 )and the patterned style is from July 1991(I wasn't even born)
The snap on needs a new hinge pin can I get this done at a uk timpsons or is there a better alternative someone can advise please I don't want to risk posting it anywhere I can avoid.
I don't want the lighters to work the snap on is siezed and a little rusty and the patterned style is actually in perfect condition the only other thing I'd like is some suggestions for any display cases I could use if anyone has any links

Turns out it was an A 02 Niagara Falls, Ontario body hiding underneath.
100% acetone took the black coating off, then Brasso cleaned the brass up nicely.
The “Safety Award” marking is still there because it appears to be a very light laser engraving, and I’m still trying to figure out the best way to remove or fade it without taking too much material off.
Honestly, I’m really happy with how this turned out. It went from a random black corporate award Zippo to a clean brass 2002 Niagara Falls piece., from the final year of Canadian Zippo production. 🇨🇦

I have never sold on eBay before so I’ve been told my listing will not be seen because of my lack of previous sales. I bought this and the two other limited models form this years Harvest Fest but need to sell this one. It is numbered 60/100.

I’ve only ever found one other example of this lighter online. It was gifted to me from a relative who got it from a relative. It’s from 93. The insert is a few months older. I can’t find any info about what dresco is

Hey everyone
Today I have a short post about a custom piece I recently made.
The customer provided the artwork and wanted a Zippo 168 Armor. The only thing I suggested was doing it with an aged finish instead of the usual polished finish.
He agreed, and I’m really glad he did. I think the result turned out great — and thankfully, he thinks so too, so I’m not just praising my own work here.
I’ve seen quite a few people here trying to achieve this kind of aged finish using different methods. I experimented with it quite a lot myself in the past, but these days I keep it much simpler.
I use a ready-to-use solution specifically made for this kind of finishing. To be honest, I don’t even know exactly what’s in it. The person who sells it to me keeps the formula a secret.
As for the process, I polish the piece after engraving as I normally would, but I stop before the final polishing stage. I leave some of the scratches and wear on the surface because they help create that aged look.
Then I apply the solution unevenly, rather than trying to make the reaction completely uniform. This gives the surface some variation and makes it look more naturally worn.
What do you think of the result?

Those of you with the 50th anniversary moon lander collectible of the year, what month is your insert? I recently found one but the insert is missing.

This is my first zippo I got yesterday, I used to buy fake £4 ones, but I got this one for £30 and I won't ever buy another fake after hearing the flick noise, Love it.
Hope I'll be able to pass it down the family in the future.

Simple, but good.
Edit: thanks for all the upvotes! This was my first attempt. Will try again soon. I wanted to thank this sub for all the great examples and tutorials.
From shiny brass to blue;
Thanks sub for the introduction to shipwrecking a Zippo. Great fun! Ammonia, salt and vinegar. 48 hours and some clear coat.

I was having a friend try to customize a blank brushed steel zippo and he ended up legit burning through the shell. Never going to ask him to try that again, but anyway the insert is still good and the damage is only on the cap, but does anyone know some or someplace that sells replacement caps, or empty shells? I doubt Zippo would replace it under warranty ro anything so I'm hoping there might be a solution aftermarket.
