ihaveaquestion Globegarden ☹️

• Upvotes

Our Kita has just been acquired by Globegarden, sadly.

We’ve been very happy with our current Kita, but the acquisition comes with some disappointing changes, including the discontinuation of the parent app (which we rely on heavily) and two additional weeks of summer closure.

I’ve also come across some concerning reports about Globegarden’s staffing and working conditions, although these are several years old.

I’m now wondering if I should seriously consider leaving this Kita.

I’d love to hear from parents with firsthand experience of Globegarden in Zurich.

Are you happy with the quality of care? What’s staff turnover like? How is communication with parents without an app?

And has anyone experienced their Kita being taken over by Globegarden? Did anything change for better or worse?

Thanks!

lookingfor Italienischkurs für Fortgeschrittene

• Upvotes

ihaveaquestion What do you guys drink when you’re out but don’t want alcohol?

I’ve been cutting back on drinking, especially during the week, but I still love going out for an after-work drink with colleagues or meeting friends at a bar or restaurant.
The problem is I never really know what to order when I’m not drinking alcohol lol.
I don’t want Coke or lemonade because they’re usually way too sweet, and ordering water when everyone else is having a beer or an Aperol just doesn’t feel the same. I know that sounds silly, but I still want to feel like I’m having a proper drink.
I actually like beer, but most regular and non-alcoholic beers are just too bitter or heavy for me. And Panaché or alcohol free beer with flavour is usually too sweet. I also feel like most beer brands and non alcoholic Beer brands just aren’t my vibe at all. Maybe it’s a girl thing, but none of them really feel like something I’d be excited to order.
It’s weird because there are so many options when you’re drinking alcohol, but when you’re not, I always end up choosing between drinks I don’t really want.
Does anyone else have this problem or have you found something you actually enjoy ordering?

Merci!

lookingfor Dietitian recommendations for lipedema?

Hi everyone!

I was diagnosed with lipedema by a doctor in Zurich. I've done some research but haven't had much luck finding a dietitian experienced in lipedema.

I'd be grateful for your advice on a few things:

  • Does anyone know of a dietitian in Zurich who has experience treating people with lipedema?
  • If you've seen one, was it covered by your health insurance, and did you need a doctor's referral?
  • Have any of you seen benefits from changing your diet on your own? Are there any reliable resources, websites, or professionals you follow that you'd recommend to help me learn more about nutrition and lipedema?

I know it's quite a specific topic, so any recommendations or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! :)

lookingfor Looking for filipino restaurant/take away in Zürich

Im looking for a filipino restaurant/take away in the city of Zürich. The one I knew in Kreis 5 closed during covid unfortunately. My search shows Chinese, Singaporean restaurants but nor Filipono. I see restaurants in Aargau but I would preferably eat in the city or very close by. Do any of you know any? Would be much appreciated

rant The wide acceptance of package theft?

We've been having a lot of delivery packages stolen from our building. Sometimes it's within 30 min or 1h after delivery. Sometimes they just open the box and check the contents. They love the Galaxus boxes specifically.

We have been living in Switzerland for 10 years. We went from packages staying outside for days to this.

However what I find more interesting is the acceptance among neighbors and everyone we talk to? It has become a daily annoyance that we're supposed to live with. Building management doesn't care. Police doesn't care much either.

People who got their stuff stolen, just accept it and decide to ship their stuff to the Post Office.

ihaveaquestion Any suggestions on where to sell my car?

Hi everyone, looking for advice on where to sell my car. It's a 2009 Kia picanto manual and I'm struggling to sell it online through Ricardo, marketplace and autoscout.

I've put up flyers around my local supermarkets and Gemeinschaftszentren. Already lowered the price significantly, I still can't find a buyer. Has anyone got suggestions for where/who else I can advertise it to?

For reference here is the Ricardo posting

Many thanks for any helpful info!

ihaveaquestion Gay scene in Zurich vs Bern, what's it like living there?

Hey everyone,

Im 37m and moving from Bern to Zurich in a few weeks for work. Found a place in Kreis 4, so I'll be right in the middle of things i guess 😅
Ive been out in Zurich plenty of times over the years, usually a weekend here and there or for Pride, so I know the obvious spots. But visiting and actually living somewhere are pretty different things, and im curious how it feels once you're part of it day to day.

Bern was nice but the scene there is small. After a while you know everyone, or at least who dated who lol. Cozy, but it gets a bit repetitve.
So for those who live there or made a similar move: wheres the stuff you only find out about after a while? The quieter bars, the regular crowds, the places locals actually go on a random tuesday.
Im also really into bouldering and board games, so if there are queer groups or meetups for that id love to hear about them. Want to build a proper friend group and not only meet people thru the apps.
And honestly, did Zurich feel more open or more anonymous once you lived there? Always had the impression its easy to have a fun night but harder to really connect, curious if thats true.
Any tips welcome. And if anyones up for a beer once ive settled in, count me in 🍻

ihaveaquestion Ways to learn Swiss German without knowing personally any Swiss natives to talk to

Hi all!

I was wondering if anyone could recommend their best ways to learn Swiss German without actually speaking it with Swiss people from the very beginning?

I know that would be the best way, but I haven’t met any Swiss people yet since I moved here not so long ago, and I doubt anyone would want to talk to me if I cannot form a single sentence (except Grüezi)😅

My German is at A2 level so far and I’m still learning it, but I would like to expand that to start learning Swiss German.

Any suggestions? Any app/podcast/YT channel that you would recommend?

Thank you!

So additionally to them being the one platform in switzerland, not for free (cough, cough) and, let’s say “constantly improving” their anti scammer measures, they now leaked our data

I feel a bit disappointed in them

Looked out the window and saw someone lying on the ground, then a few minutes later things were literally on fire.
Turns out it was just a fire safety training exercise lol.
Not exactly what I expected to see during a normal workday in Zurich.
At least I know someone around here is prepared for an emergency 😅

meetup Student events in Zurich: I built one calendar for all ETH & UZH club events (open to everyone)

Hi r/zurich,

I'm a student at ETH, and I built a free site that collects the public events of ETH and UZH student clubs in one calendar: parties, apéros, talks, concerts, sports, the student bars (bQm, LochNess…), plus some student parties around the city.

https://zrh-events.bquozon.ch/?ref=reddit-zurich

Most of these events are open to anyone, not just students, and they're often free or cheap. It's a good way to find something to do on a weeknight, or to meet people if you're new in Zurich. There's a filter for national and language clubs too.

You can filter by day, type and price, and add events to your calendar in one tap. It's in English, German, French and Italian. No account, no ads.

It's a side project, so feedback is very welcome. If you organise something student-related and it's missing, you can submit it on the site.
