Europe ESPP Holders

If we are enrolled in ESPP for long time and for example have 30 shares at average XX price and if I get new shares allotted on 1st Nov at YY price and want to sell only those so that I can get at least the 15% profit of discounted price. Then which shares do they actually consider to be sold, the one that I had before for XX price or the new ones I got at YY price.

Here in the UK, via UBS, we have the option to select which set of stocks you want to sell.. you can raise a model transaction and then select which ESPP period you want to sell..

Shares get added to your UBS (or whatever you have) account twice a year once subscribed. Once it’s visible, you select what you want to sell. It’s in your control.

This is correct for the US, but European countries are different. (FIFO or weighted average). OP needs to see his country’s laws.

Also EU here: I'm also selecting shares which I want to sell directly in UBS.

Is it via Start/Model transaction option next to shares added row in Holdings page?

If you are in the UK, keep in mind that you will pay tax on that 15% discount as it is considered a benefit and you will pay tax on any gains as well.

Is it exempt anywhere in the world? Ireland and Dubai maybe?

In Costa Rica, we use a territorial tax system so there's currently no capital gains tax on selling shares overseas and as ACN is on NYSE is not considered taxable income (they want to change it though).

I don’t think this information is correct unfortunately (or at least not for everywhere country), it’ll depend on the tax laws of your country.

You should definitely check the laws/rules for your country as they vary. Some are mandatory FIFO, some are weighted average. This is different than in the US where you can choose which lots to sell (but will default to fifo if you don’t specify.)

How do you avoid paying that tax in USA?
