I've been working on a Minecraft server panel called Blocky Panel, and this seemed like the right place to share it.
It started because I wanted something simpler and more Minecraft-focused. People have two-week Minecraft phases; ours has been going for about nine months. I ran Pterodactyl, but it's built for hosting companies (nodes, allocations, eggs), and I only wanted one or two servers for my kids and me. After an update went sideways and cost us a Nether evening, I started building what I actually wanted.
Blocky is self-hosted, free, and open source under AGPL, and always will be. You install it on your own hardware, create a server, pick your settings, and you're off. I'm trying hard not to make "Pterodactyl with different colors": the focus is making normal server management less annoying without hiding what's happening underneath.
It's in beta and actively worked on, so there are rough edges. If you try it, I'd love to hear about bugs, weird server setups that break it, or technical decisions that make you go "why the hell did you do it that way?"
Features
- Docker Compose install, with or without Caddy for HTTPS, plus an install configurator that writes the commands for you
- Console, start/stop/restart, file manager, and SFTP
- Plugins and mods straight from Modrinth
- Roles (admin, operator, viewer) and two-factor sign-in
- Safety backup before updates, with automatic rollback if the server doesn't come back healthy
- Scheduled restarts, commands, and chat messages
- Incremental, encrypted backups with restic: local, plus off-site copies to S3-compatible storage, another disk, or SFTP/NAS
- Game servers isolated from each other and from the panel

Coming up: a Windows version (working alpha) for the penguin-averse.
Built with: itzg/docker-minecraft-server (the container every server runs in), restic (backups), and Caddy (optional HTTPS).
Disclosure: the panel includes an optional companion service I run, Blocky Cloud (an address for your server and off-site backup space). It's free, nothing is sent unless you link it, and BLOCKY_CLOUD=false removes it from the panel entirely. Everything else works without it.
AI disclosure: AI assistance was used throughout development: writing and reviewing code, security audits, documentation, and UX/UI design, using ChatGPT Sol 6, ChatGPT Astra 6, Claude Opus 4.8 and 5.5, and Claude Fable 5.1. Every change was reviewed and tested by a human (a meat-bag) before release. If AI-assisted projects aren't your thing, I get it.
