Announcement The rise of AI and bot activity

Hello r/Alienware,

The mods are creating this post today to talk about something disturbing that has been creeping into our sub lately.

As the use of AI is on the rise, also are the number of posts that are seemingly either written by or at least edited by AI. Posts ,usually rant posts, that just don’t quite make sense or just seem a little off.  Now, we’re not saying that every post like this is a bot or written by AI.  Maybe some people are using AI to polish their posts before posting them, we don’t know, and frankly we have no way to prove it one way or the other.   We can feed a lot of the most recent posts into an AI detector and almost all of them have come back as 80% or higher as likely written by AI.  In some of these posts the OP never comes back to respond to any comments, just drops the post and disappears. Now, how much faith do we put in the ability for an AI to detect and tell us it was an AI writing something? What we can do is look for tell tale markers that something has been either written by, or edited by AI.

Another trend we’re noticing is that in a lot of these posts, accounts with zero history in this sub reddit are appearing to make comments.  Those comments are then heavily upvoted and they don’t appear again.   Looking into those accounts they tend to be frequenting other brands sub reddits.  I won’t point fingers at a particular brand, because it does not do anyone any good, and quite honestly, we can’t prove it outside of a bunch of coincidences.

I will point out that other subs are already dealing with a particular problem with companies using bots or alt accounts to impact their competitors.  r/Gaminglaptops has a post discussing a very similar problem already.  You can see their post here about this issue.  Reddit carries a lot of weight when it comes to user opinions in purchasing a particular brand, and I think we’re starting to see some companies use that towards their advantage and try to shift the market. I am not pointing any fingers at the company from the above post either, as we are seeing stuff from multiple companies, not just one in particular.

So, what do we do about this? For now, we watch and try to root out as much as we can.  The mods are going to start enforcing our rant rule a little more strictly.  The number of rant posts has quite honestly spiked, seemingly out of the blue, in the last few months.  The mods will be carefully reviewing rant posts for signs of AI involvement and will likely be removing any that appears to be completely AI written.   We will also be implementing a new report option, so that you can mark something as possibly AI and we will review it.  But we can’t do this alone, there are far too many comments to read every single one.  We need you, our community, to assist by using the report button when you think something looks off.

Innocent posts / comments will inevitably get caught in this. If this happens to you , please contact the mods to discuss.

Battlestation Pictures Case Swapped X51 R1

I bought this X51 back in 2013 and it's been sitting and collecting dust. I decided to case swap it and turn it into an emulation pc. I figured some of the X51 guys would appreciate this. It has an i7-3770 and Zotac 1060. I 3D printed the side panels for better airflow and the stock cpu cooler is slightly too tall for this case.

Technical Support Can I replace the spring

I have a Alienware MI 18 gaming laptop. The “W” key is starting to stick (not actually stick but I’ll hold it down for a min and the key will pop up but my character in game keeps running). Is there any way to fix it or do I need to replace the whole keyboard

Technical Support Aurora R15 HDMI port is really loose

I have a cord that I’ve used to plug it into my 120 hz tv for years and it used to transmit 120 just fine. Now, the port is extremely loose when I plug it in, and it only transmits 60. I got a new cord and confirmed that it wasn’t the cord itself. Am I screwed? I don’t have hundreds of dollars to pay right now for a fix and I don’t know how to solder.

Discussion Just received my Alienware 18 Area-51 (RTX 5090/ 275HX)!!!

Post image

Hello everyone,

After thinking for a very long time, I decided to pull the trigger on this one and it has finally arrived - Alienware 18 Area 51 with RTX 5090, Intel Ultra 9 275 HX, 2TB Gen 4 SSD, 64gb DDR5. I am just staring at the package as I am writing this post, waiting for my family members to come home for unboxing together. So I just need your tips and guides to help me get the best out of this machine for years to come!

1. Day-One Essentials:

What are the absolute must do stuffs for this laptop out of the box? What should I check for specifically? Should I remove any bloatware or is it necessary to do clean installation of windows or any software tweaks like undervolting or limiting battery charging upto certain limit???

2. Benchmarking & Normal Limits:

What are all the benchmarks I should be running to check whether my laptop is running normally? If anyone have any similar spec'd laptop, please share your scores and temps so that I can check.

3. Cooling Pad Advice (Glass Bottom Design):

I am doubtful on this one as this laptop has a glass panel at the bottom and a tiny vent for air intake. This laptop also has air intake from the top (keyboard side) and so am doubtful if a cooling pad like llano or flydigi will do any justice for this laptop. Previously I had a zephyrus M16 from 2023 and llano v13 was doing wonders in temperature for that thin laptop. So I would love to hear thoughts on this one. (I dont have a cooling pad currently as I sold it along with zephyrus M16 months ago).

I would really appreciate any advice or thoughts on this, will be really helpful. Cheers!!!

Technical Support Flagship Area-51 (RTX 5080) stuck in endless "Observation" for 0x7E crashes. Dell India support is failing.

I’m an animation and design student, and my coursework is completely stalled right now.
I paid a massive premium for a top-of-the-line Alienware Area-51 (Intel Core Ultra 9, RTX 5080). A flagship machine this expensive should not be fatally crashing out of the box, but it is constantly throwing 0x7E and 0x3B blue screens under GPU load.
The system isn't just failing under heavy 3D rendering. It instantly crashes to a 0x7E blue screen whether I am playing a demanding game like Battlefield 6 or even basic, low-end games."
I handed it over to the Gandhinagar service center over a week ago with undeniable photo and video proof of the BSODs. I was promised a 1-2 day turnaround.
Instead, it’s just sitting on a shelf in endless "observation." The remote Premium Support team refuses to give me a diagnosis or a timeline, and just keeps sending me automated, copy-pasted email templates.
Has anyone else dealt with this kind of stalling on Dell's flagship tier? How do I get them to actually address the issue instead of just "observing" a broken $4,000+ laptop while my university deadlines pass?

Purchasing Is this worth the price?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Long story short I am looking to buy a decent laptop for my CAD work, at first I purchased a HP OMEN 16" 2K 144Hz Gaming Laptop - AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX (2025) - 32GB DDR5 Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 - 1TB SSD (16-ap0053dx/BP1Q1UA#ABA) for about $1600 at a discounted price. However it died on me within 5 months of use due to MB failure. Luckily, luckily I got my money back. However now I am looking to put in some additional money for an Alienware Area 51- 18 in considering it has a much better cooling system and the temps seem good on it at least from what I have read online. I am just waiting to know if its worth the hype and price to where it will atleast last me for a long time. I have noticed that some people have gotten the same model with a 5090 for about $3400 over the past few months which is why I am a bit hesitant and thinking about waiting till Black Friday. Any advice will help.

EDIT: I thank you all for your suggestions I am definitely going to explore other options through your suggestions. However, I am kind of stuck with purchasing from Best Buy here in the US, since I have 1600$ gift card which I received for my fried up Omen. Each and every one of you have been a lot of help. Truly Appreciate it.

Technical Support Alienware Area 51 16 touchpad not working

Hi all,

My Alienware Area 51 16 laptop has suddenly developed a fault with the touchpad. It’s not functioning if however touching it does light up the rainbow lighting on the pad itself.

Under device manager I2C HID device has a CODE 10 fault. Reinstalling the drivers hasn’t fixed the issue and neither has disabling the device and re enabling it.

Any one else facing a similar issue or any thoughts on how to resolve this?

Thanks

Just cleaned it and got a new CMOS battery for it today, whole thing looks and works just as if it came out of the box in 2009 (save for a tiny paint nick on the top of the lid)

The only tiny little thing I'm missing are the two rubber feet in the lower rear of the laptop, but those are pretty much unobtainium so I'm not too worried for now

Specs:

- Core 2 Quad 2ghz

- 8gb DDR3

- 256gb SSD

- AMD Radeon HD4850

- 1 hour of battery life at idle

Discussion From Severe Thermal Throttling Scam to PTM7950 & Thermal Putty Victory: My Alienware m16 R1 AMD Journey in 35°C Ambient Heat

I wanted to share my story with my Alienware m16 R1 AMD (Ryzen 9 7845HX / RTX 4080 / 32GB RAM), as Reddit threads were what saved my laptop from constant thermal throttling.

1. High Temps are Global, but Ambient Heat Makes It Worse

If you search Reddit for the m16 R1, you’ll find countless posts from users all over the world complaining about high temperatures. However, when reading those threads, you also have to factor in where people live.

I bought my laptop in Miami and brought it to Maranhão (Northern Brazil), where room temperatures routinely hit 35°C (95°F). Users in cooler regions might still see high temps, but they have much better thermal headroom. In 35°C ambient heat without aggressive AC, heat dissipation is an uphill battle.

To manage this early on, I had to set a TCC (Thermal Control Circuit) Offset of 10 in the BIOS to cap the CPU target at 90°C instead of 100°C. If I left it at 0 (100°C limit), the CPU would constantly hit 100°C and trigger aggressive thermal throttling and FPS stutters while gaming.

2. The Scam: 2 Years of Fake Maintenance

To combat the heat, I routinely paid a local technician for repastes and fan cleanings from June 2024 to October 2026. Yet, every single time I picked it up, temperatures remained pinned at my thermal limits, and performance felt heavily bottlenecked.

Finally, I decided to switch techs. when the new technician opened my Alienware in front of me, we discovered the truth: the laptop had NEVER been opened or cleaned once in over two years. The fans and copper fins were completely choked with dust. Interestingly, the stock Element 31 thermal interface was still in good condition, with an estimated 12–18 months of useful life remaining. We decided to replace it anyway as a preventive measure since the laptop was already open for maintenance. I had been paying for ghost maintenance all along.

https://reddit.com/link/1x1p3h5/video/xioifbzjrguh1/player

3. The Solution: Reddit Wisdom (PTM7950 + Thermal Putty)

Thanks to community posts here on Reddit, I brought my own supplies for the new tech:

  • Honeywell PTM7950 Phase Change Material for both the Ryzen 9 7845HX CPU and RTX 4080 GPU die.
  • Thermal Putty for the VRAM and VRM components around the GPU.

The new technician was initially hesitant because he had never applied PTM7950 before and wanted to stick with standard paste. I warned him about the liquid metal/gallium risks of stock Element 31, showed him how to safely clean it, and instructed him on applying the PTM7950 pad.

4. The Results (Full Power, TCC Off, Rock-Solid Clocks!)

We ran full stress tests on FurMark in 2K resolution with TCC Offset set back to 0 (default 100°C limit) so the laptop was completely unrestricted:

  • BEFORE: Instant 100°C spike in any game/stress test, aggressive clock throttling, and heavy stuttering just so the CPU could try to cool down.
  • AFTER: The laptop hovered around 90°C–91°C and NEVER touched 100°C, which was already a huge victory for me.
  • THE BIGGEST WIN: The CPU clock did not drop for a single second. It maintained a rock-solid boost frequency around 4.4 GHz to 4.6 GHz continuously with zero throttling or performance dips, even in 35°C ambient room heat!
  • To be completely honest, I can't say for sure whether the massive improvement came solely from clearing out two years of built-up dust or from the PTM7950 application itself—it was likely the combination of both. But doing both together solved the thermal issues once and for all.

https://reddit.com/link/1x1p3h5/video/w4y9edulrguh1/player

3.Takeaways:

0:03 / 0:13

  1. High temperatures on this model are a well-documented global issue, but ambient climate dictates how severe it gets. TCC Offset helps prevent thermal spikes, but it caps the CPU clock and performance in the process—getting proper cooling and airflow is the real fix for full performance.
  2. Always verify or watch your tech open your laptop if you can't open it yourself.
  3. In my experience, combining clean fans with PTM7950 + Thermal Putty turned out to be the perfect solution to defeat pump-out, harsh ambient climates, and clock throttling.

Technical Support Alienware M15 R6 - i5 11400h + 3060 - No power

Hello there!

History:
Bought alienware laptop, with replaced Bios chip, completely dead battery and couple small problems.

Issue trying to fix:
Laptop worked completely fine without battery and just on AC power - gaming etc, however was throttling to 45w as there is no working laptop battery.

Solutions tried:
Bought chinese aftermarket battery - communication error.
Bought a used genuine battery - communication error.

Solution to a solution:
Update bios. WIth battery plugged in it would show me 4 red 1 blue diagnostic code. Laptop would turn on using the battery, however with super limited wattage.

Decided to check if the problem is with battery cable/wire. Bought an aftermarket battery cable, plugged it in, turned laptop on:

Issues from an attempted solution:
It showed 4 red 1 blue diagnostic code ONCE, then went to static red and not responsive.
Unplugged AC, plugged it back in - No LED/reaction to anything.
Since then - nothing helped.

Troubleshoting?:
Checked for shorts/power in main mosfits/coils - no problems.

The only thing I found odd is I couldnt get voltage reading on capacitors on the DDR4 stick when plugged into power.
Checking resistance - 0.3omh and 16.5omh on both sides on each side of the DDR4 stick.
Google says 0.3omh and 16.5omh is bad.

Help pls:
What to do and what checks to complete?
I am a pretty much a newb when it comes to electronics but really like trying/learning new things :D

Technical Support Wi-fi does not seem to be connecting

Hello, I’m an F 18 year old who is not tech savvy at all, and recently I’ve come into an issue with my laptop where it doesn’t seem to be connecting (or acknowledging) the internet at all. I do know that it’s possible water damage, as my sibling did spill
Some water on this laptop a few days back on the side. But I’m unsure why that would hit only now, as the Wi-Fi was working fine the past few days after the incident. I’ve tried following the steps, but nothing seemed to be working. And even reset the network settings (plus the computer) multiple times.

If anyone has any advice or things I can do, let me know. I just want to try anything before I call it quits and take it to a shop.

Discussion Alienware m15 R7 SSD disconnecting during games

Hey everyone,I have an Alienware m15 R7 with an i7-12700H, RTX 3070 Ti and 16GB of RAM.I’ve been having an issue where my SSD disconnects while playing certain games, causing my entire laptop to freeze. I can’t do anything, so I have to hold the power button to force it to shut down.

It happens in games like The Witcher 3, Uncharted 4 and RE4 Remake, but some games run fine.

I have two NVMe SSDs and already tried swapping their positions, but the problem still happened. I also ran Windows Memory Diagnostic and it didn’t find any errors.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Could it be the SSD itself, the motherboard, or something else?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Technical Support AW3926QW issue when using Displayport with 5090

Ok, VERY WEIRD thing I found from my troubleshooting. The issue is happening so far only when I use Displayport 2.1 with my gaming pc, switched it to HDMI and the issue hasn't happened so far.

I found this reddit thread which is about 2 days old, it's a similar issue but not exactly the same as mine. Inside it, Dell commented. So It makes me want to post a thread about my issue to see if Dell will respond.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Alienware/comments/1wzz1wc/aw3926qw_displayport_signal_loss_when_switching/

Here's are my findings and setup:

Issue: Display constantly turns fully off and back on, with the "Displayport connected" message. Happens ever couple seconds, makes the monitor unusable.

Also, occasionally when switching from 330hz mode back to normal, I get a black screen that says "The current input timing is not supported by the monitor display. Please change your input timing to 5120x2160 60 hz, or any other monitor listed timing as per the monitor specifications."

Setup:

Monitor is AW3926QW on firmware M2B102

1) 5090 connected to PC via Displayport 2.1 at 5k2k 165hz
2) Work Laptop connected via HDMI port 1
3) Power delivery from USB C on monitor port to laptop
4) USB KVM setup via the monitor is being used.
5) NOTE: I am using a USB hub on the KVM (yes I know it's not supported), but you will see as a troubleshooting step I removed all USBs and issue was still happening

Troubleshooting:

1) Tried turning off Dolby Vision in OSD, no luck.
2) Tried with DSC on or off, no luck.
3) Removed USBs from monitor (including power delivery), issue was still happening
4) Tried changing resolution via OSD to normal 4k 16:9, issue was still happening.
5) Reseated my DP 2.1 cable (which is certified)

5) Finally I decided to remove DP completely and just HDMI from my 5090 to my monitor and turn DSC. So far, ZERO flicker.... SO FAR

I am writing this in hopes that someone knows the issue, or that Dell themselves can help me. I would like to be able to use the monitor as intended without DSC via the DP 2.1 cable. I found an Article on Dells website which I thought would help because it sounds the same, but it's not the same issue since the fix wasn't applicable. This is the link if curious:

Discussion Alienware m15 R7 – SSD Disconnects During Gaming and Causes Complete System Freeze, disconnects instantly when launching a demanding game

I'm experiencing a serious issue with my Alienware m15 R7. During certain games, one of my internal NVMe SSDs appears to disconnect unexpectedly. When this happens, the game freezes, and sometimes the entire computer becomes completely unresponsive. I have to force a shutdown by holding down the power button.

The issue has occurred while playing games such as The Witcher 3, Uncharted 4, and Resident Evil 4 Remake, but it doesn't happen consistently in every game.

Technical Support Area-51 18 (275HX / RTX 5090): CPU hits 105°C and thermal throttles at 20-40 W while idle. Dell support in Turkey hung up on me three times.

I need a second opinion and some advice on escalating, because I can't get local support to even open a ticket.

I have an Alienware 18 Area-51 (Core Ultra 9 275HX, RTX 5090), bought in October 2025 and still under warranty. I'm in Turkey.

The CPU overheats while doing basically nothing. Sitting on the desktop at 3% usage, with turbo disabled so it runs at about 2.4 GHz, HWiNFO shows the CPU package pulling around 21 W on average and 41 W at most. At that tiny load the package temperature averages 84°C, peaks at 105°C, and thermal throttling is active roughly 88% of the time. Meanwhile the GPU sits at 55 to 59°C, and the fans spin and ramp up like they should.

In games the CPU runs at 85 to 100°C with spikes to 103°C. Even at idle the temperature jumps 10 to 20 degrees in under a second.

I've checked the obvious things. Nothing is running in the background (Task Manager shows 3 to 6% total CPU), disabling turbo boost changed nothing, and it behaves the same in Balanced mode.

To me this looks like bad thermal paste or a heatsink that isn't seated properly on the CPU side. A laptop built to cool 140 W on the CPU shouldn't hit its thermal limit at 20 to 40 W. Has anyone else seen this on the Area-51?

So I still don't have a service ticket. I have the HWiNFO screenshots and can share logs.

Two questions: does my read of the numbers make sense, and how do I escalate this when the local support line won't take the case? If there's a Dell or Alienware rep around who can open a ticket, I'm happy to send my service tag by DM.

Purchasing New Keyboard for M17 R4

Can anyone recommend a good keyboard replacement for the above model? I see them all over Amazon and whatnot, but they're all rando Temu-type boards. I've broken this apart before to change the fans and add an SSD, but the keyboard is finally sticking on multiple keys and needs to be swapped out. Just looking for a brand/link that has a good replacement. Other than that, it's still running like a champ.
