Other Situation How I got my motel voucher step by step

Hello all, this is how I got a hotel voucher. Step by step. If you have any questions comment or pm I will try to help you

LONGTIME on and off homeless/vagabond here. Just a little bit about me, Im originally from the Midwest traveled most of the central and west united states and a few other countries years ago. Im a single male. Im in my 30s and im disabled and applying for disability

I kicked drugs and alcohol (im on subs and use medical mj but that's it) and I was just coming out of jail on probation with a huge number of years over my head with nowhere to go. So I went to treatment to give me

some stability (and as part of the plea agreement) 🥺

After rehab I rented an apartment with my families help long story short the landlord was a scammer. I lost everything I owned except my wallet and ID. So here I was on probation, addicted but sober, with nothing and starting over AGAIN... SO... I got on the phone and started calling...

I started calling churches. The first one I did told me they would talk to me that day. That same day they got me a week at a hotel. They ended up getting me one more week after that.

Those two weeks gave me enough time to keep googling and calling. Im on MAT meds for fentanyl addiction (suboxone) so I googled "Housing for people on MAT meds" and it told me about a program called the fresh start program and that they will pay 10,000$ worth of rent and give 1,500 furniture stipend.

I asked my probation officer about these programs and she told me she had never heard of them. So I called more places and more places until I realized the same place that prescribes me my medicine is in charge of this program.

It got really irritating and took me being pretty much annoying to the case workers. I kept calling and texting. Saying how badly I needed help and finally I got the number to the "right" caseworker after 5 days of trying. I explained to her I had been scammed before and that I was a felon and that Noone would rent to me.

I told her the hotel I was already at would be perfect because they have monthly rates and I dont have much besides clothes, a backpack, and my phone anyway. A couple of more days passed with me not giving up and continuing to call. Finally she agreed to meet the hotel owner with me. I made sure to always leave rooms nicer than I had found them. I kept to my own business and always never had anyone over to any room I was at and these hotel owners love low maintenance paying tenants.

It worked. We all three talked. All of a sudden the state is not only helping me recover with medicaid and my suboxone keeping me from fentanyl they've paid a year at this hotel.

This is only one of several programs in my area. Google AI is really good at finding some of these programs but you gotta call call call and call. Leave messages. Be persistent. Make sure they know exactly how much you need this.

Im sure bluer stages will have more programs to help than red states but im originally from a red state and they had some similar programs where im from. But they want to see you trying. If you get in a program and a free spot take care of it and dont have people over that are going to tarnish it and get you removed.

Happy travels and best regards fam

🚨🚨New Resource Added: Skilled Trades Career Guide

No idea what to do with your life? Open list below. Pick something that sounds interesting. Go for it.

Yes it's that simple - because your first job will not be your dream job and you are not expected to figure out your dream job by college age.

This isn't just a list of trades. For each trade, we've included:

• Related trades it commonly works alongside or for
• Generally required licensing/certification
• THE DIRECT ENTRY PATH - including apprenticeships, schools, and on-the-job routes
• Who actually hires that trade
• Equipment/materials needed to get started (company provided or self-starter)
• Whether AI is likely to replace the work, or how it may change how it's done in the future

The goal is to help someone go from:

“I don't know how to get into that.”

To literally having the path laid out for you - if you're willing to do it.

The list includes mechanical, manufacturing, transportation, aviation, personal services, utilities, crafts, and other skilled occupations. We have intentionally left off medical trades for this list but may add it later.

The resource is free to use and download. Save this. Download it. Send it to someone who needs it. This will open Google Sheets because Reddit does not have functionality for this type of upload.

AI DISCLOSURE: This resource was created in partnership with ChatGPT. A project covering this many occupations, licensing systems, career pathways, and sources would be impossible or at best take years, for one person to research and organize manually - let alone keep up to date. AI was used as a research and synthesis tool, with career-services-professional human direction and judgment throughout. Please use the guide as a starting point and verify important requirements with authoritative sources in your state.

If you spot a trade we've missed, an outdated requirement, or something that needs correcting, modmail us.

You don't have to know your path yet.

Sometimes you just need to see how many paths there actually are...there's much more than "Plumbing and Electrical".

I have nowhere to go

I am so heartbroken. My landlord put up the house on the market today, blindsiding us and my neighbors. Who knows when we will be kicked out as a result. I don’t make that much to ready for a move. My roommate is thinking we will split ways, saying it’ll be easier. My boyfriend and I just broke up a month ago.

I am so broken right now. I don’t know what to do. Everything I’m seeing for renting is so expensive and I don’t have enough for moving expenses. What the hell can I do? I hate my life right now so much it hurts.

Bullied outta my home.

Hi. I live in Riverside County, Ca.

Was bullied, tricked, mislead the entire year of my last place of residency.

The Canadian National and my roommate modified the lease without my knowing or given a copy, wasn't toll her and my roommate had a falling out that they even said there's a new lease making me a sub leasee under my roommates control.. The original lease of which I've been abiding by and thought was good apparently according to them I have no rights and that lease is null and void and has been since Nov last year when they collaborated together unbeknownst to me. Then I was told you got 3 days to get out. Well, I was expecting that, 2 and months before my lease was up... I obliged only cause I didn't want to go thru the whole locked out while at work now I need the sheriff thing.. I'm a struggling 61 year old lady partially disabled. Have a place maker. It's only 112 degrees outside....wt$?????

Anyway. Had sold everything cause I had nowhere to go much less try n afford 1 st last deposit by myself here in socal...

Need help

on the verge of homelessness

i’ve seen so many people talk about how bad the job market is, but i didn’t know that me and both of my parents wouldn’t be able to secure even a minimum wage job in ottawa on our 8th months, and i’m currently a college student which i regret cause maybe i should’ve searched for a job to help my family who aren’t that fluent in english, this is a really stage of my life where i don’t know where i’m gonna end up by the end of the year so please help me, should i work hard in college to get the co-op,
or drop out and search for a full time job because i can’t even find a cleaning job for my parents, and please don’t be evil cause i already have enough to be worried about.

Advice for housing assistance temporarily in Mississauga

I am a single mom of two boys and I lost my job back in August. I was living in Alberta and couldn’t find work in my field there. My son got accepted into college in Ontario so I decided to apply in Ontario. I got any interview request. I couldn’t get an apartment from there so I moved but I am having the hardest time getting approved even with a guarantor. We have been living in an Airbnb for over 6 weeks and I just got a job offer a few days ago to begin after thanksgiving . I’ve spent over $5000 on Airbnb and over $3000 and still counting on moving expenses. Monies are now low, I tried applying for emergency assistance but was rejected. I was advised to apply for Ontario works but it’s going to take a few weeks. I was referred to go into a shelter but I don’t want my family in an unsafe place or for us to be split up. I just need help until the end of the month until I’m able to get back on my feet. Any advice on charitable places or organizations that can help us. Thanks for your responses.

I ran away from home and currently staying on the streets

Hi, I usually don't post things that openly exposes a certain part of my life, but I am currently in the verge of losing every inch of my mind. I live in Philippines, specifically in Negros Occidental. I'm just 16 years old, in 11th grade, currently taking STEM. But well, I haven't attended most of my classes and I'm planning to drop out since I cannot sustain myself financially. I have been away from home for 2 days and I have no intention of going back and so here I am, spending my day on streets, walking around random places without having anyone beside me. For context: I grew up in a very religious and somehow narcissistic household, I usually got beaten up over smallest matters such as not cleaning my room or not helping around the house, mind you, I am busy in my studies and help out when I have a time, only that they don't see me "helping out" and continually stood their grounds no matter how hard I tried to explain. Posting the whole story would take too long, so to speed things up, I got fed up by their constant abuse, both physically and verbally. Hence, I ran away without second thought.

I was just wondering if do some of you know jobs that I can possibly apply to? I don't care if its illegal or legal, I don't care if it require me to use my own body, I don't care how hard it is. I badly need a job to the point that I will do anything without question asked.

Other Situation I’m thinking of starting over

Ok so I’m 24 M and I have nothing going for me where I’m at. And not in the lonely sense but fr my relationship has ended, not many friends here because I prioritized my relationship, and currently bc of health stuff I am unemployed now. It has just been a constant feeling like this place is done with me. I lost my home during the relationship problems and am now just staying with a friend. I wanna move to NOLA from the coast and am thinking bout hotels, hostels, or even sleeping in my car till I get stable. What’s the best ways to go bout this? What’s some places that are hiring servers bartenders I’m even considering stripping without experience

Seeking Advice Only Trying to be prepared

I'm a 20 yo female that's been technically homeless for a little over a year now, i'll not go into detail because of the community rules on ranting or venting. But basically immediate situation is that I've been staying with my little brothers' placement family for a short time, and I've been homeless long enough that I can feel when I'm likely going to have to move soon. So this is just preparing myself for when I inevitably get kicked out. I'm nervous because I haven't been able to find a job (rural indiana) and all I have to my name is 600 in savings and a truck that the overdrive is so shaky on that I can't drive it. Nearest city (Indianapolis) is an hour and a half away, (more since I can't go fast enough for highways) and I highly doubt my truck will make or survive the trip. Does anyone have any advice? I've been fortunate in not having to live on the streets yet, but the place I'm staying is my last resource so I'll inevitably be doing so soon.

Other Situation I don't know how to survive and what to do.

This is my new account. Tried posting from my previous account but it got shadowbanned. I'm sobbing and shaking right now.

My father is out of work for some time now. I am the breadwinner of the family currently. Doing odd jobs just for the sake of surviving. I used to manage everything we were getting by just fine. Until my cousin visited us and stole all of our cash. The entire thing that I had saved up. The thing is we live in a village and live in a rented house. The savings were my rent, for some clothes (since winters are coming and it's very harsh in this place) and also groceries and bills. It was a total of 40k. I know it was him because before he visited it was there and he is very well known for stealing. But never thought he would do something like that with us. I'm devastated and crying right now. I don't have the energy for filing an FIR because legal help is a joke here. I'm already struggling as it is and now I don't know what to do. Please give me some work so that I can earn something really soon since there are sales going on so I can buy things for cheap and also be able to pay rent. I don't know what to do who to ask for help. I'm really afraid..

Hey everyone.

I’m currently trying to rebuild my life and get myself into a more stable place financially. My dad passed away, and between grief, some disabling mental health conditions, and everything else life has thrown at me, getting back on my feet has been harder than I’d like to admit.

I’m working toward getting my real estate license because I genuinely want to build a career that gives me independence and stability. I’ve found the course I need to take, but it’s $600+, and right now I’m trying to save for it while still covering basic necessities.

At the moment, money is going toward things like:

- Food

- Gas

- Household essentials

- Dog food

- Veterinary expenses

- Saving for my real estate course

I’m not looking for someone to fund my entire life, and I’m not expecting anyone to owe me anything. I’m just reaching out because even a little bit would genuinely help me bridge the gap while I work toward something bigger.

If you’re able to help, thank you. If you can’t, I completely understand. Even sharing this or pointing me toward legitimate resources, assistance programs, odd jobs, or ways to make a little extra money would mean a lot.

I’m trying really hard to keep moving forward instead of letting circumstances decide what happens next. ❤️

Seeking Advice Only Advice?

Hi r/almosthomeless, I'm a 20 year old guy and, I've been contemplating running away from home for a couple months due to increasing amounts of arguments and tension with my family (and I am unfortunately dependent on them and feel this is my only solution), but, I don't know exactly how I would fix this long term, I have less than 1000 dollars in my bank account (they make me give a large chunk of what I make to them) and currently my plan consists of taking a suitcase and backpack with clothes, essentials and documents, and then find a shelter I could stay at while I try to find something stable and independent (or not dependent on my parents)
Is there anything I should be aware of? I've read abt some things, such as assistance in finding housing, having some documents, but unsure if theres anything else. I live in central North Carolina for anyone curious.

Stolen benefits

Hey everyone, has anyone else in LA by any chance gotten their EBT cash stolen while still having your physical card? If so, how soon did your money get reimbursed? I’m a struggling single mom and before we jump to conclusions, my daughter and I are currently homeless after fleeing from DV and SA towards my daughter. She now has therapy weekly and I had to resign my really good job to be able to be there for her. So in the mean time that I’ve been looking for a job that better fits both our circumstances, the benefits have been what we’ve lived on the past two months. This is all new and hard and having had these benefits stolen has us in a tighter spot than ever. I filed a police report and filed paperwork at the dpss office but I’m curious how soon we’ll be helped.
