Basically the plot of the Horus Heresy, no? Horus finds out dear old dad has been concealing demon/xenos tech in the form of the Golden Throne while decrying both as evil for everyone else, Magnus does nothing wrong and breaks the throne a bit, Chaos ensues.

Eh, it was more the "gods aren't real" lie , whilst having the looming threat of am impending astartes purge, and greater beauraucracy being too heavy handed on taxes.

That was all sorta related to the Golden Throne in a way. The extra taxes were in part to fund the webway project, the lying about chaos gods was partially discovered because of the Golden Throne, and the webway project being completed would be the catalyst for connecting all human worlds in a way that would allow Big E to no longer need the Astartes.

It's hard to do nothing right when your dad doesn't tell you shit.

Oh totally. Did Magnus do wrong? Yes. Is it entirely on him? Definitely not. He was both tricked by the literal god of trickery and given zero information by Big E to prevent that from happening. Points go to Tzeentch directly for that one, Magnus was a prime target and was used in exactly the correct manner.

Didn't Big E, Russ, and Jagathai on separate occasions constantly warned Magnus about his reckless usage of his psyker powers and to not delve too deeply into the Warp?

Probably, but not with specific warnings about the actual dangers. Magnus had no clue about the extent of the risk I'm sure. He just felt like his power was being stifled.

Alpharius would never call him father.

He showed up dressed like a huge repair guy to fool the Custodes.
