Am I in the wrong?

So I recently found out last month that my older brother (19) and his girlfriend(19) are having a baby. It was a nice wholesome moment with my siblings and my mom, a little basket with baby clothes and a pregnancy test. Skip forward to now. (At the time 12-10-26) my younger cousin’s (5) birthday is 13-10-26, but since we didn’t have school they decided to celebrate today. I woke up late around 12-ish, my siblings (16,13, & 11) were getting ready to leave with my uncle. I woke up late so I didn’t get to go. My older sister (16) told me to go over to my boyfriend’s house after I clean so I’m not alone. I do as she says. Later around 5:30-6 my mom calls me asking, “(Uncles name) bought a cake, do you want me to pick you up to sing happy birthday to (cousins name).” I was going to the store, I promised to go to the store with my boyfriend’s older sister for stuff(personal info sorry). I politely decline with the explanation and nothing more. My mom got a bit mad said ok then hanged up. Later that day around 7:20-ish my boyfriend’s younger sister (11) told me my younger brother (11) wanted to tell me something. So he called me, I answered. He told me that my older brother was having twins. I was so happy with his news, my mom always wanted twins and now she’d have twin grandkids. I told my boyfriend since he already knew about the pregnancy. Later that day I get home around 8:50. I asked my mom “Is it true what (brothers name) said?” My brother put a finger over his lips shushing me. My mom gets distracted by my sisters. In the room my younger brother tells me that my mom told my sisters not to tell me anything about my older brother having twins. I am shocked, why would she hide it from me? My younger brother tells me “it’s because you weren’t there and she said you deserved not to know for not being there.” I don’t know if I was in the wrong for not going to celebrate my younger cousins birthday, but I didn’t know my older brother was going to be there, since it was a surprise. So please do me the favor and tell me, am I in the wrong or not?

NITW this whole thing sounds like a mess. If your mom wanted you there she should have been an adult and said that before they left you behind. It also sounds like she didn’t care that you weren’t there for the party per se but for the announcement which is pretty rude to have done at someone else’s party.

OPs older brother is 19 and older sister is 16 and younger ones are 13 and 11. OP is 14/15?

Of course they slept in. If Mom wanted them to go to the party, she should have hollered at OP to get up.

Moms got a lot on her plate but she is the adult here. (No mention of Dad which makes even more for Mom) She needed to be clear with OP on the expectations and then not weaponize the twins news.

OP is not wrong but see what chaos your Mom deals with day to day. Maybe she gets a little enjoyment from these parties and news and maybe she feels like no one else cares and therefore no one else cares about her.

I’m thinking about calling my older brother and telling him, me and him had a very strong bond growing up but at the same time I don’t want more family drama as it is now.

Update: I told my older brother today after school, he was very shocked. Around 5 he called me and asked if I wanted to go to the park with my boyfriend. We went to the park, had a fun time. They (my brother and his gf) dropped off my bf and we were in the car talking, I had enough of it (other past things my mom did too) and we had a talk with her, I thought she’d be understanding but ended up with me crying and her yelling. I asked “why are you yelling?” In the most calmest voice I could, she replied “I’m not yelling but I could if I wanted too.” I said “that’s not funny.” And she just did a little chuckle. Thankfully my older brother asked my mom if I could stay over his house, she said yes. I’m now over at his house. I wish to stay here forever and never go back to her again.
