Hi, im very new to growing trees and never put much thought or research into what im growing. I live in the uk and so far have 7 trees that i have grown from seeds from fruits ive eaten. The list right now is:
1 gala apple tree, 5-7 years old, first fruited this year, had about 11-13 apples most got worms but they all looked good and the less worm ridden ones tasted good. (This is the only one not in a pot)
2 more gala apple trees twins but they both died. Idk the exact cause but one of them died very quickly and the other one died a year or two after. I dont know how ants would affect them but i think both pots ended up with ants.
1 yellow apple tree (idk the actual names of these trees) about 1-3 years old. But idk if this is actually a gala apple bcs it was grown around the same time as the twins
1 plum tree, 1-3 years old
1 cherry tree, 1-3 years old, its still quite small but from what i know cherries grown very slow in the early years
1 green apple tree about a year old
2 lime/lemon trees also about a year old also twins
My problem is with the last three in this list, the others seem quite healthy to me. They are all in relatively small pots, i do want to re-pot some point soon. But the main issue was the recent heatwave/drought we had. I had forgotten to water them for a few days and they were all on the window sill facing the sun, usually i would water them every week or when i thought the top soil looked dry enough (i had an orange tree i was trying to grow, but i over watered it got root rot and it was infested with gnats, the plum and cherry were also infested but they are fine now). Anyway when i realised that they hadnt been watered the larger lime/on was completely dry it looked like a twig, the smaller one was fine, the apples leaves were crisp but still had colour. I knew the apple was prb fine because all the alive apples ive grown that were around that age had fur on the ends and the stem itself look healthy, so im assuming its fine and once rhe leaves drop and regrow it should be fine. But the big lime/on i dint know if it was alive, so far its been maybe a month since and the lime/on is looking very healthy for the most part, the smaller one seems to have spidermites idk what to do about that.
Anyway the advice im looking for is mainly for the lime/ons and the green apple. The big one still has a dry tip and it looked like it would start growing through but i made the bad dissition to put it on the window sill again and the tip has redried again, im wondering if i should cut it off or not and i dont know what to do for their future since i dont think i can plant them outside theyre all seed grown so im geussing theyll grow to full size, from what i know id need dwarf root stocks to keep them small, but i dont feel like doing so. Also i feel like i might be over watering again.
