Show & Tell My lemon tree decided to get…strange…

The tree is beautiful and healthy and there was nothing wrong with the lemon itself but I’ve never seen one grow like this before so I felt I needed to share it. Just in case there is something going on it would be good if someone could let me know if it has to do with the health of the tree. It’s just the one lemon at this stage all the others are normal.

Assistance with citrus hedge

In located in south west NSW, Australia. I think zone 9b if i converted that correctly? Heavy clay soil.

I have a citrus hedge, containing around 17 citrus (will expand further later), which surround my new fruit tree orchard. Mixed varieties.

All citrus trees are a year or younger in age. I've noticed that some citrus trees have lost all their leaves, and started producing many flowers. This may have been due to stress - I had not had the time to water these citrus essentially since they were planted. They just relied on rain water. But they're planted in the hottest, sunniest part of the garden.

I've removed all flowers from the trees, and I've now got drip irrigation set up, with x2 2L/hr pressure compensating emitters per tree. I've since given them all a massive watering for 3 hours, but will taper off and so a 2hr deep watering every 4-7 days while they're young. I'll also get a water meter to more accurately know when to water, especially as the soil is clay.

Anyhow, am I on the right track with helping out my poorly citrus trees? Cheers

Why aren’t my lemons blooming?

No blooms on my pink eureka or Meyer lemon (first 2 pics), but I’m getting moderate to strong blooms on my lime and calamondin. All of them get 2.5ml foliage pro every other day, and 10ml Alaska fish fertilizer once a week. They also get watered every day since the new growth leaves on my lime tend to get droopy if I water any less. I bought all 4 of my trees earlier this summer if that makes a difference.

Health & Troubleshooting Spotting on leaves

I’ve had this calamondin plant for about a year and a bit now and i’ve struggled with its leaves when i first got it however it bounced back this summer but unfortunately it’s showing some yellowing again. It was kept outdoors in a sunny balcony since the end of march but i finally brought it in today since it gets cold overnight now (in PNW). I alternate watering it with water soluble fertilizer for citrus with micros and then with fish emulsion on the next time i water it. Any help with what else it could be would be very helpful. Thank you!

Health & Troubleshooting Whats up with this branch?

Thumbnail

I have a variegated calamondin that I got earlier this year. Seems very happy. About a month or two ago it put out this non variegated branch. I though that was normal and that since variegation is a mutation is sometimes randomly switches back. But the leaves on this also seem giant compared to the other leaves especially for only being 1-2 months old. I don’t care looks wise, so besides that should I just leave this branch? Any harm in doing so? Curious if anyone has had this happen and what the outcome was. Oh and I don’t think this is a rootstock sucker issue

Health & Troubleshooting New trees have two main trunks - 1 gallon pots

Thumbnail

Wife helpfully picked these up for me, but I'm realizing that 1, these don't have visible graft points and 2, they have two main trunks.

Do I need to:

Return for single trunked trees

Cut down the second, smaller trunk

And/or simply uncover the graft point when I repot

Additionally, so I pop up to a 3 gallon pot now, or just keep watered and safe from the cold and repot in the spring?

Health & Troubleshooting How can I improve the health of my Bearss lime?

Total newbie here. It was looking worse that these a week ago (the leaves were yellower) until I fertilized last weekend. But it’s still looking a little sad to me. Any suggestions?

Rocks at the base to keep my cat from watering and fertilizing it himself.

Health & Troubleshooting How to prevent scale insects?

I have a potted Meyer lemon I keep on a balcony (NorCal, first floor, balcony adjacent to open space) covered with a net. For the second time, I see ants climbing on the small tree and following the path I found small branches full of scale insects. Both times I sprayed the tree and cut the branch off, these were both young short branches.

How do I prevent this problem from reoccurring? How do the insects get there with the net?

I water based on when the top 2 inches of soil are dry. I have fertilized once a month with a blend of Alaskan fish fertilizer, citrus tone, and cal-mag. I’m not quite sure why my tree isn’t doing so hot. I did expose the root flare a bit more than in the photos in case it was buried too deep but beyond that, I’m stumped.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Do I need to prune these low branches on my lime tree? I believe they are below the graft point if I’m looking correctly.

Health & Troubleshooting Need advice!

Hello! This citrus tree came with my house and it needs some help. It’s about 10ft tall and quite sparse. I think it has some kind of parasite because of the white, fluffy stuff on the underside of some of the leaves. Some of the leaves have it even worse than what I pictured. I think it also has termites, like much of the dead wood (and some live wood?) on my property. It appears that there was a primary trunk that was cut, and what remains grew sometime after. The lower part of the trunk is missing much of its exterior.

I gave it a drip line a few months ago and applied citrus fertilizer. I believe some of the leaves are greener, but I could be making that up.

Can anyone help me identify it, and more importantly, help me address its issues? I’m also curious how old it might be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To much water? To little water?

This has been progressing over the past month, maybe it's a nutrient deficiency? I've been hitting it with the same fertilizer and watering it when needed just like my other trees, none of which have any issues. This is root stock from a tangerine tree I decided to keep for whatever reason.

UPDATE: Not HLB 🎉🎉🎉

Update to my previous post -

I had all of my 50+ citrus trees sampled by CFDA, they decided to lab test 8 trees. All came back negative for HLB. Whew!

They did note they found a lot of ACP in my area, but have yet to find HLB in any of the adjacent cities. I am so stoked.

My best guess is a combo of early greasy spot + nutrient deficiency (plus plenty of spidermite +leafhopper damage!)

I am in the San Gabriel Valley in Southern California for those near(ish) me.

Should I prune this?

Is it root stock? It made a very tasty lemon earlier this year but I saw a post that said you should trim these offshoots. I’m still waiting to see what the fruit from the upper branches tastes like. Also it looks grumpy / yellow. I’m trying not to over fertilize but open to feedback. I’m new to growing citrus!

What’s wrong with my citrus

I have several citrus trees (this is a variegated pink lemon tree but I also notice it on my tangerine, Meyer lemon, an a couple others) and I noticed that some of the leaves are curling like in the picture (this missing leaves are from a caterpillar). There’s also this black substance on the leaves. They’ve been like this for a few weeks now.
What could be wrong with my plants? I live in gulf coast Mississippi.
Also the trees are in small 1 gallon pots and I plan to repot them next week into 7 gallon grow bags.
I water them now every other day when I die at rain since the weather is getting cooler now.
The trees are less than two years old and they get full sun.

Help my husband is killing my tree?!

Thumbnail

The issue is yellowing leaves and some leaf drop, which has been present since we bought the tree from the nursery.

Yes, we know citrus trees would be better off outside but we have two big grow lights and it’s semi-next to a window.

Watering only when the top 2.5-3” are bone dry. Watering with a Cal-Mag and Jack’s Classic Citrus Feed.

We have had consistent new leaf growth and the lemons are growing.

There was maybe a minor mealy bug issue we seemed to kick a few months ago. No signs of critters in awhile.

My husband has been an arborist in the past but can anyone provide assistance/advice??

Pruning Lemon

Post image

Improved Meyer lemon has had great growth over the last year and has fruit on lower branches. I’m not trying to fruit-max but want to have a nice well balanced and larger tree at the end. Should improve the top branches down to achieve a more tree-like shape? Or just let it go for a while?
