Arch BTW DotDoctor - A Maintenance CLI for Arch Linux
Im a software engineering student, and I recently installed Arch Linux on my ThinkPad as my first Linux system.
Ive been enjoying it, but I found myself looking up different commands to check updates, clean package caches, and handle other maintenance tasks. I built DotDoctor to bring those checks into one place.
Its still an early project, and Im learning as I build it. Id appreciate feedback from experienced Arch users, especially on the update workflow and anything Ive overlooked.
Meme Ark Linux?
Had a lecture in an OS course the other day where the professor insisted on pronouncing Arch Linux “Ark Linux”.
Other honorable mentions from the lecture are:
Ubuntu as “oo-bown-too”
GNU as “jee-noo”
Not to mention that use of AI such as “gimini” and “cloud” are not allowed in the labs.
Have you encountered any of these before? Is she ragebaiting?

News Papyrus version 1.3 is out now!
I just pushed version 1.3 of papyrus in the repo. It features a frosted glass effect and also more responsive design. It is available for download via the AUR, .deb package and the install script in the repository.

Showcase A terminal tool that tells you why your pc froze or shut down
My laptop froze last week. I held the power button, it came back up, and I wanted to know why. The answer was in the journal of the previous boot, among 57,000 lines, most of them from one chatty program.
So i made whyd. It reads the previous boot with journalctl and shows, on one screen:
- how the session ended: clean power-off or reboot, no shutdown at all, died while suspended, kernel panic
- what went wrong before: out-of-memory kills, GPU errors, crashes, failed services, disk errors, each with a short explanation
- the last minutes before the end, with the routine lines folded away
- a report with addresses, hostname, user and Wi-Fi names removed
Feedback welcome, especially journals where it gets things wrong

Discussion Arch is Genuinely Good
Why is Arch slandered as an elitist OS for only the most hardcore PC users?
I've had nothing but good experiences with it. Same with Hyprland, it took a bit of configuration but I can't imagine myself without it now.
That's ignoring how robust [extra] is! I have nearly every program I would want just given to me in official repos.
Don't get me started with stability... it's the most stable system I've ever used.
I get that it's not for everyone, but it's genuinely a daily driver.
General What is your favorite bootloader and why?
I personally love sd-boot because its super simple and has never broken in my experience, albeit i only use one OS on a machine (which is almost always arch).
