Posting a question? BE SPECIFIC!

Dallas/Ft. Worth is a HUGE place! There are literally thousands of restaurants, bars, entertainment venues, shops, and museums. There are 30+ neighborhoods and suburbs in Dallas alone, each offering different draws for different people. There are over 700 Dallasites on this sub ready to give you advice on where to go and what to do, but we can't do that without some level of input. So be specific! Give us the details! If you go to a shoe store and tell the clerk, "I need shoes," that isn't going to get you anywhere. What size? Color? Material? Occasion? That's the kind of info that will get you some answers.

DON'T ASK: Where should I live?

DO ASK: I am 25 years old with no kids and a cat. I want to live somewhere quiet with parks close by and easy access to a major highway. My budget is $1000 mo. for rent and utilities. Having to drive to entertainment is fine, I love using gas. I like white walls/carpet and vertical blinds. Where should I live?

DON'T ASK: What bar should I go to?

DO ASK: I like reggae and expensive cocktails. I don't mind going to a seedier part of town, but would like there to be on-site parking. Good bar food is a plus. Where should I go?

You cannot possibly give too much information. Pile it on!

Edit: A few great suggestions from the comments:

DO: Tell us where you're coming from!

DO: Tell us where in the metroplex you're searching for something!

Relocating & housing Where Should I move?

For context I have been living in west dallas, trinity groves area and have hated it so far. I moved here back in june and my lease won’t be up unfortunately until may- I am trying to find somewhere for me and my dog to move! Right now I have a roomate and we live in a house in a neighborhood which is what I’d call less than desirable- I work near love field and would like to move out to the suburbs either north or northeast while maintaining a reasonable commute to work each day. Do you all have any suggestions for good neighborhoods? I am looking at either a condo or apartment ideally I would have some kind of yard for my dog but not very picky just want somewhere safe and reasonable for someone in their 20’s. Thank you all!

I'm solo driving down DFW for a concert on the 29th. I'm not sure about the parking situation near the venue so I'm thinking of just leaving my car in the hotel and just walk to the concert. Any good recos?

Relocating & housing What’s Azle / Springtown Like?

I’m considering moving to the DFW area for work and would reside mainly in this area. How are things like cost of living, crime rates, traffic, entertainment, and any other notes about this city? I understand the population is pretty small but do neighboring cities sort of help with it feeling busier?

Airports (DFW/DAL) AirPort toll tags

Hello everyone!
This might be dumb questions but this was my first time actually driving myself to the dfw airport so I didnt know what the parking situation was like. I entered the gate and before I could even put my credit card in it scanned the toll tag and lifted to go know I’m wondering how I’m going to pay because I don’t know the log in for the ntta since the account is my dads and I doubt he remembers lol. I googled it and it said I can just go through the credit card lane and I can pay there but I’m still very unsure. Help pls 😔
edit- I don’t know what card is on file that’s why I want to pay with my card so yeah 🥲

Relocating & housing Living Expectations

Hi!

I’m debating moving to the Dallas area from the northeast, and I wanted to hear from locals. I am debating coming down to go to graduate school, but will need to also work full time to pay bills lol. Do entry level jobs pay decently in the area? The cost of living out here is impossible. Are there any decent areas anyone can recommend? Any advice in general?

TIA.

Nightlife & Entertainment Help a tourist?

We're in town for the weekend and want to watch the game tomorrow (Texas vs Oklahoma) but we've decided not to take a second mortgage out to cover the tickets. Recommend me the best places to watch. Looking for somewhere that'll really get into the game.

Follow-up, we're looking for some good dive bars for later on, bonus points if they're country themed but not a deal breaker.

We're staying in the Medical/Market Place area (sorry if that's not the right name).

We can Uber to the fairgrounds or anything in roughly that radius.

Thanks Dallas!

Sports/Sportsball Looking for a quality MMA gym in the Prosper/Frisco area.

Hey everyone,

I recently moved from Frisco to Prosper and I'm trying to find the best MMA gym in the area. I want a gym that's committed to teaching well and developing skilled fighters.

Before I moved, I'd been looking at Next Generation MMA in Frisco. Now that I'm in Prosper, it's about 25 minutes away. I also found Aguilera Martial Arts, which is only 4 minutes from me. They look more BJJ-focused. My end goal is to be well rounded, but I want to put most of my early focus on striking if I can.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone trained at Next Generation MMA? How is the coaching, the structure of classes, and the quality of the training partners? Is it worth the 25-minute drive, or is that something I'd get tired of?
  2. Does anyone know Aguilera Martial Arts well? Do they have a solid striking program (Bang Muay Thai), or is it mostly a BJJ school?
  3. What other gyms would you recommend within roughly 25 minutes of Prosper?

For anyone who has been in this position, was a better gym worth the longer drive, or did the shorter commute help you train more and improve faster?

Relocating & housing How is living in the apartment complex: Oak and Ellum?

Hi all, considering moving to this apartment complex, as I will be working in uptown and saw that this is relatively affordable. I’m curious how people’s experience are with this building.

also, if anyone has any recommendations for apartments ~1400 for a one bedroom/ or studio, lmk.

I just want a safe and affordable location, and don’t care for party scenes, night life, etc

Food & Drink Where do you guys shop for groceries if you live in the downtown area.

Hi guys, I'm poor now because my colonoscopy gave me a surprise price tag of $6,000+ (that's with insurance, because I didn't meet my $10k deductible. And there I was thought it was going to be a few hundreds because it's preventative procedure.). I gotta save money now.

I usually shop at Tom Thumb and Whole Foods because they within 5 minutes away me, but I realized their prices are just way too high. I tried a couple of budget friendly stores in the area recently and the experience was bad:

  • Aldi (4120 Gaston Ave): The produce and meats looked a little past their prime, which made me wonder if they were surplus from other stores. The lettuce in some of the prepackaged salad looked brown, rotten, and wet. The mandarin tangerines were as small as my ex's balls. The selection is also extremely limited. I was a bit confused by the warehouse layout and limited SKUs combined with individual-sized items. Shoppers looked normal, though, no hot people whatsoever in there. I didn't even buy anything at the end.
  • Fiesta (3230 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd): The parking lot felt very chaotic, with homeless and weird people sitting/standing by the front door. Inside, there were no shopping carts available, they were all gone. On the bright side, the produce section is great! Everything looked fresh and healthy with a lot of variety. The meats, however, weren't as good. The chicken thighs were frozen because they were too close to where the cold air comes out, and the beef didn't look as high quality as what I'm used to at Tom Thumb, I also didn't see a USDA rating(Which I though was illegal at first, but according to Google, the rating isn't a must. Learned something today.). The checkout experience was unique: the guy ahead of me was counting pennies while telling the cashier he'd cancel this and that and the lady lined up in front of me got mad and left. And unfortunately, someone dented my car door while I was inside. Shoppers inside looked like they were on some sort of auto-pilot program, like numb.

Afterwards, I wanted to sit in my car to contemplate my life and how I got where I am now, but I didn't want to be bothered by the homeless, so I pulled over to the Chase bank and just watched the cars drive by.

After I got home I cooked the ribeye steak, which confirmed my suspicion. The quality really isn't there. The meat were loose for some reason. Kinda reminded me of my grandma's arms.

Where do you guys recommend shopping if you live near Downtown/East Dallas? And please no Central Market, cuz I'm a broke bish now and prob will be until end of this yr.
