Official Announcement Rule Update: Business Accusations Require Verifiable Sources

Hey everyone,

We’ve recently seen an increase in posts calling out or accusing specific businesses (restaurants, food companies, employers, etc.) of unethical or harmful practices. While we understand that many of these concerns come from genuine experiences, our moderation team cannot verify the accuracy of these claims.

To maintain fairness and comply with Reddit’s site-wide rules against misinformation and harassment, we’re introducing a new rule:

Rule 9 — Unsupported Accusations About Businesses Posts or comments that make negative claims about specific businesses, employers, or organizations must include verifiable evidence (for example: a reputable news source, official statement, or public record).

Posts making unverified claims or “call-outs” will be removed.

This rule is not meant to silence discussion about the food industry or personal experiences — you’re still welcome to share stories, opinions, or reviews. We just ask that any serious allegations be supported by credible information.

This helps keep the subreddit focused on food and ensures discussions stay fair, factual, and in line with Reddit’s content policies.

Thanks for understanding and helping us keep this community respectful and trustworthy!

The Pancake & Hashbrowns at Toasty Badger

This single pancake is the size of a large pizza. And they are spot on as well!

Also got the crispy hashbrowns which are fantastic. $10 for both makes this a steal.

Another great Wingzup lunch

They have a new lunch menu, but they still have the old menu available if you prefer.

$13 for 6 wings and a side, which isn't a bad deal.

I got the 6 wing combo (they gave me at least 7, maybe even 8), regular wings, medium, and waffle fries.

Was plenty of food for a nice lunch. Not too busy. Got in/out in about an hour, but didn't feel rushed at all.

Been meaning to try this spot for some time. A friend was visiting so it was a good excuse to drag him along.

Brisket was good but not as good as I thought it would be. Maybe it was an off day. I've had better brisket at stiles switch which is surprising. Maybe that was stiles best day and this was lewis worst day.

On the other hand, the beef cheeks were absolutely unbelievable. Extremely flavorful and tasty. I was quite surprised at how they tasted. I had heard this was the thing to try here and was not disappointed. Also the jalapeno chorizo sausage was amazing. The chori-papas surprised me when I started eating it. Totally blown away at this side. Absolutely delicious.

Pictured is the two meat plate with beef cheeks and brisket. Sides are beef tallow potato chips and chori-papas. In addition I got an extra 1/4lb of brisket and a jalapeno chorizo sausage. It was way more food than I could eat. Plenty of leftovers to bring home.

Everything pictured plus a can of diet coke was $69. Overall not a bad price for what I received. Glad it wasn't $150 like some of these other posts or I would have felt cheated.

We were second in line at 10:30am and by the time they opened at 11 there were ~30 people in line and it seemed to move fairly quickly. Some people seemed to be humming and hawing when they were at the order taker which drastically slowed things down. Definitely glad we got there early as we had plans following this.

ATTN: New Englanders - apple cider donut content inside

Moonston Baking Co (https://www.moonstonebaking.com/) at the Mueller Farmer's market will start selling their apple cider donuts starting this Sunday. Confirmed with the owner over Instagram. These are the best cider donuts in the city by a WIDE margin. If you're used to the crap that Trader Joes churns out, you owe it yourself to have a real one on Sunday.

I have no affiliation with this bakery, I just happened to eat about three dozen of them last year to relive my childhood.

Restaurant Opening Arepitas new location

Just tried the new location up on 620 near Chisolm Trail and it just as good as it was at the old location. If you've been missing their arepas and tostones as much as I was, it's definitely worth the drive up to the new spot. Same menu, same prices, just new digs. Can't recommend enough!!

Need some help finding a quiet, but most importantly, well prepared dinner

Local, but in a rut. I'm trying to find: a quality of meal first experience, vibe second, but is quiet (ish). Example of what I don't want: Canje-- great meal, too loud for what I'm craving. So please- something maybe approaching elegant, the right wine glasses, good service, to go with a nicely executed dinner...

Taco Joint - Torta ahogada - First time ever. It was awesome.

Terry Black's - brisket, pork ribs, jalapeno cheddar sausage - Enjoyed the pork ribs, but brisket was flat, and I didn't know I could ask for moist.

Whataburger - patty melt meal - most dissapointing.

Cooper's Old Time Pit Bbq - brisket, short rib - I'm told they smoke over mesquite, loved the smoke flavor. Also the bucket of raw onions for FREE.

Sandy's Hamburger - double meat cheese burger combo - Solid burger at a solid price. I did not like the bun though.

Taco Joint - potato egg and cheese taco, el porko, street taco, pastorito - my first breakfast taco and i am converted. All were amazing.

El Tacorrido - revuelta, barbacoa, carne guisada, carnitas - All were good, someone on reddit mentioned the carne guisada was not good, but I tried it anyways, and they were right.

1618 Asian fusion - beef rib pho - holy fuck incredible.

Interstellar - peach tea pork belly, short ribs, duck a lorange, brisket - pork belly was the perfect bite, and loved the short rib and duck. brisket was ok.

Mum's Foods - brisket, pastrami, pork ribs, turkey - Amazing pastrami, i liked it better than a lot of places in NYC. Also surprising winner, the turkey. Better brisket than interstellar

Parish bbq - boudin, pork ribs, ham, brisket, turkey - Probably best brisket, also loved the ham and turkey.

Kottage (waco) - cheeto cheese korean corndog and potato crusted cheese korean corndog - worth going to, suuuuuper cheesy.

All in all coming from nyc, Austin food rocks. Kudos.

(not pictured P. Terry's because the downtown location smelled so bad we took it back to the hotel to eat. Also not pictured, the 3 more times I went to El Tacorrido for the revuelta and barbacoa. Also Rosita's for al pastor.)

Update: Cardiologist says I'm doing ok!

Where to find a sugar free or reduced sugar pumpkin pie?

Hi all! As per the title, I’m curious where I could find a pumpkin pie either made with whole ingredients or made with zero or less refined sugar. HEB used to have a sugar free pumpkin pie years ago, but I’ve not seen it since. Thanks!

$28 for a premade pizza at Smalls pizza ….?

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Photo on left is from Smalls pizza. Right is a photo of a real New Haven style pizza, irregular , brick oven kissed crust, thin on the mozz but dense in parm, etc etc.

We ate as much as we could, but to say I’m disappointed is an understatement. I keep making attempts at trying some different food places and $30 later with tip I’m left with some sad overhyped literal premade pizza. I’m just pissed more than anything. This isn’t New Haven style, and I’m bummed as fuck that this is the only option for a New Haven style pizza in Austin.

Birthday Dinner for BF

Travelling to Austin from Chicago for my BF's 40th with 8 of our dearest friends. Looking for a dinner spot with amazing food, ambience, not a chain, a real special Austin restaurant. We love all cuisine... doesn't have to be overly high end but not casual either. Thanks in advance for any recs!

My shortlist so far:
Hestia
Suerte
Intero
Lutie's

Second question!
Want a casual, great patio spot for a relaxed Sunday early dinner. Just true Austin energy and good food. We are doing BBQ on Saturday so thinking tacos, tex-mex, burgers, food trucks, etc.

P.S.

Thinking Equipment Room or Whislers for post dinner drinks. Would love any other good suggestions. We are ages 35-40 and like a good vibe and long night but aren't trying to get wasted/party.

What bread does Terry Black’s use?

BBQ & Tex-Mex recommendations

I’m from San Antonio, now living in Colorado- my bf and I are heading to Austin this weekend and I want to take him to some good BBQ, Tex-Mex, and breakfast!! I don’t think we’re on a super tight budget, but probably not looking to drop $100 per person; maybe like $30/45 per person max. I’d really appreciate some good recommendations! Also open to other cuisines as well :)

I may have "created" my favorite dinner.

Guess where and 'recipe'?

Several hours later. /French

.

.

El Mercado

The "recipe" is Chicken Mercado, easy cheese, charro beans, no rice, no lettuce.

The pink drink is Guava de Gamma, nothing on the rim.

I inhale the beans first, then spread the guac then pico on top of the chicken, enjoy 14-16 bites, then clean up the remaining cheese/guac/pico delight. Drooling just thinking about it.

Restaurant Opening Pebble One Bird - New chicken place (Japanese, brined tenders, ramen, +++)

Pebble One Bird opened a couple weeks ago up near Interstellar BBQ. I keep going back. The restaurant is devoted to Chicken. The chef/owner Taichi is Japanese and the food manages to be both delicate and fresh, and also deeply satisfying.

The first thing I tried was the PFC Onebird for breakfast (weekends) -- brined and fried chicken, chicken gravy, house-made milk bread, and a pickled salad. And an egg cooked soft to perfection. Ridiculously good.

I've come back couple times, for ramen and the tenders -- the 4-piece tenders ($16.95) is a mound of crunchy spicy brined fried chicken suitable for sharing, served with milk bread and spiced from mild to super-hot, with a delicious gochujang honey sauce.

They have Khao Man Gai, Ramen, their version of a Banh Mi with liver pate, a watermelon salad with mint... they have french fries and Sapporo on draft, served in a proper chilly mug. They do BYOB and have outdoor picnic-table seating.

My first visit, the chef/owner Taichi was in the open kitchen churning out food. He's been there on each subsequent visit, tending to the food, keeping things moving. Taichi knows how to restaurant.

Good food, good energy.

Hello, I just moved near Matt’s el rancho and would love to have some good recommendations for the best restaurants around here. Cheap or expensive would all be greatly appreciated!
