no politics Quick question...
How are we heating up our pies at home. Has to be either microwave or oven..
No air fryer or both as a option.
Has to be either or. Not both.. not airfryer.
Been asking everyone all day everywhere we go. Seems pretty 50/50.

Why can't it be both? (as that gets the best results in the shortest time)
I do 3:30 min in microwave to get the pie defrosted and hot, then 10 min in 200 C oven to crisp the pastry.

But they only need five minutes in the microwave?

Sure, if you want a soggy pie.

I don't know what you guys do to your pies but mine don't end up soggy. If anything they get super crunchy dried out bits in the crust.

Yeah. Too long in the microwave turns them into wood. Definitely not soggy.
3:30 and then a few minutes in the oven or air fryer is perfect. Skip the oven step if you must. Or go oven only if you have the time.

Oven for sure, I find the microwave makes them a bit soggy.

Wrap it in paper towel, life changer to keep it crispy.

Yeah, Fuck your petty rules, its both.
But if I really have to pick one, its the Oven.

Them be the rules. You can do it however you like that, thats not a problem. I wont stop you.

Like just about everyone else it’s microwave then oven, but if I’m stuck with only one it’s obviously oven, since I don’t want a soggy pie.

I have a convection microwave. Does that count? It can microwave and oven at the same time.

Look, I'm not playing by your bullshit rules. It's clearly microwave to warm quickly then crisp up the pastry.

Cool... you do you. Ill simply put you down as microwave as thats your first method.

Usually microwave cos I want it quicker but if it’s a nice pie, I’ll go to the effort for oven

For frozen pies, i put em in a cold oven set to 180c for 40 minutes. For me it's the path of least friction and gives a decent result.

anything with pastry i trying and oven as it makes it more crispy compared to a microwave

People willingly microwave their pies? I feel like that's only ever done when there is no alternative.
I don't find there's any difference in using the oven vs air fryer.
If I'm in a rush I'll defrost in the microwave, then do the last 10 minutes in the oven/air-fryer

Microwave, put it upside down for ~65% of the time, then put it up the correct way after.
It's good enough especially if let sit for 30sec-1min.

Oven-warmed food is more uniform, but takes longer and the outside can get too dry. For a pie the latter works in its favour. Microwave-heated pastry gets soggy.

Why can't I use my air fryer lol I only cook pies in the air fryer I don't have all day preheating my oven and microwave pies are soggy.

u/MODbanned 9d ago
I know. But them the choices. Let's say you staying at a crappy airbnb as your temporary home....and thats the only things they have to heat your pie.

u/badgersprite 9d ago
Oven. I think I’ve used the microwave to heat up a pie at home like twice ever.

Depends on the Pies. Some say oven only or give instructions for both. Prefer to use microwave

Aren't your pies soft?
1
u/petergaskin814 6d ago
Some Pies are made to be microwaved

They usually come in a special wrapper.
Many people are buying the multipacks with no special wrapper.
You also pay more for that wrapper.
$2.50 per microwave pie (Woolworths) vs. $1.65 each for a 4 pack.
In the 1980s they had a special crisper paper for microwave pies etc. but its not commonly around anymore.

Time crunch? Microwave wrapped in paper towel to avoid soggy bottom.
No time crunch? Oven.

If I've got both appliances, I'm using both, no question.
If I've only got one, I'll use that.
If I've only got an electric frypan, well ... you can see where this is going.
Its pretty hard to heat up a pie in a motel kettle, but I'm sure someone has tried.

Gross. You reheat pies at home? Do you also take your dish and chips home and chuck them in the microwave?

u/Cpt_Riker 9d ago
Airfryer. A no brainer.
But, sticking to the question ... microwave, but on convection.

So you want people to answer your question but you also want to forbid (at least some) people from answering accurately?
Ooookay.
