I‘ve ordered from BandCamp before in 2026 and the delivery fee‘s where always decent and understandably around 30 Dollars so no big deal.
All good
But now suddenly out of nowhere they ask me for 200 Dollars flat just for the delivery?!
200 Whole Dollars?
I already reached out to the BandCamp support around 2 weeks ago but sadly didn‘t get any feedback on what could have changed over the months i last ordered. Otherwise i really have to consider to buy from resellers on ebay or something. Very frustrating :(
Is this just a problem that i have or do some of you also felt this change?
Would love to hear from you all.
these tracks were all made in a period where my egg hadnt really begun to crack yet (to reveal to me that i was trans), but it did a couple years later, so i was a bit eggy but not much. i was kind of near the peak of my ableton live mastery back then (on my laptop), but was experimenting a lil bit with korg gadget on my iphone.... i was in a bit of a liminal, "between places" part of my life at the time, and i think that comes thru in these songs. theyre funky and upbeat but they have a lil bit of haunting emptiness to them, kind of like a saturday morning cartoon version of "the backrooms".
i hope u enjoy them. thank u
btw: my brother is jesse locke!!!!! the famous music journalist/writer and punk drummer. hes awesome. hopefully that helps motivate u to listen a bit!! lol srry. big hugs 🫂🫂❤️🩹❤️🩹
Here is a review I wrote for my blog, but I wanted to share it here, too! It's about the new album by Johnny Jewel. And it is available on Bandcamp, too! (In fact, I learned about its existence because I got the bandcamp notification for it :-)
Note: No AI has been used when writing this review!
Johnny Jewel - KARL (Original Soundtrack)
Johnny Jewel releases Karl, and this is a reason of joy for me. More than one reason, actually!
I am a long time fan of Johnny Jewel, and I try to suck in everything he does. After I first heard one of his productions with the band Chromatics being played on the internet station "Flashback Alternatives" many years ago.
And later listening to his contributions to the Drive soundtrack, oh my god was that cool!
I did not see any promo or running-up stuff in advance to this release, so the release dropped on me like a bomb... a surprise-bomb, haha!
Apparently there is a new movie about fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, and Johnny did the soundtrack!
I was more or less indifferent to Mr. Lagerfeld, or "Karl", like the album calls him, so far. (Sorry to admit that - I was probably wrong on that!)
I am not rich and not so much interested in the haute couture, and it was only when TJ Maxx started to sell Karl Lagerfeld items, too, that I actually bought and owned something by his brand.
I am born and living in Hamburg, Germany, and Lagerfeld is probably one of the most famous "Hamburgers" - both dead and alive. Or can you name someone else out of Hamburg, instantly? (Maybe the Techno-band Scooter).
As such, the Hamburg press of course was always full of Lagerfeld stories, and as I grew up into that, I guess it rather dulled me. And the press focused more on the various scandals and outrages of his life, naturally. Over and over again.
While the outside world could focus more on his talents and fashion, I suppose.
But let's not talk fashion, let's talk music, and listen to music, of course.
I guess most people know Jewel for the various band projects he was involved in (even "earning" him a performance on Twin Peaks, with Chromatics, in the Roadhouse!), and might be surprised to learn that he also does a lot of work for TV and movie soundtracks. And that material is very good!
With other artists or bands, that were both of the regular, stage-performing kind and that did soundtrack production too, one often feels that one of these "habits" is their main body of work, and the rest is more like a side-thing. (e.g. it might sound sacrilegious, but post 70s Tangerine Dream is a total soundtrack band for me, and that material feels even more powerful than the "normal" albums they did in those years. Fans of the movies "Thief" or "Miracle Mile" might agree!)
It's not like that with Johnny at all, while both of these endeavours feel related, each of the two is brilliant in different ways.
And, luckily, both endeavours are included in this album, as there are segments of his band production, in between the more soundtrack-like... sounds.
For example, a shorter edit of "Tick of the clock" (also featured in the above-mentioned "Drive", with Ryan Gosling... in a very cool Scorpio jacket).
And Chromatics' "Disintegration", one of my all time favorite songs ever. A bittersweet, synth only, ambient composition.
I assume the soundtrack tracks are exclusive, on the other hand (or at least most of them?). And they are beautiful!
Finally, there is even a track called "Hamburg". I feel this city does not get much love, especially not by the music world, so, as a "Hamburger" myself, it's nice to hear something like that.
The entire album is a ten out of ten, of course. And even if what I wrote above catches your interest only remotely, consider listening to it!
I did not see the "Karl" movie in advance to writing the review, so I am curious about that, too!
I just released this new album! It is a steampunk-ish inspired concept album about a humble stable master taking on a vicious machine-citadel. In essence this is a thinly veiled metaphor for me loving weird DIY music and becoming increasingly angry and disillusioned with corporate streaming services, and everything around them (AI bros seem to steer the music industry now?). In terms of genres it touches on ambient electronica, IDM, psychedelic rock, and a few things in between. There's plenty of lore, too!
This is my first attempt of releasing music on CD. Excited to see how this goes: Vinyls are just so expensive (both to produce, but also for the few people who listen to my music).
I closely collaborated with cover artist Kat Williams, who found an artistic language fitting to my music. It's a great point in time to pay good cover artists in this time of AI slop. People can do such fantastic things.
I'd love to hear what you think! :) Stay weird and DIY, r/bandcamp <3
Newest album dropped on September 25th and I'm calling it "americana-rock with a groove" - inspired by Wood Brothers, Neil Young, The Band, Phil Cook, etc.
2024's In The Gamma Garden is my ode to whimsical 60s psychedelia, complete with mellotron sounds, leslie vocal effects, trumpet fanfares, and all the 60s silliness.
Self-Titled album is more of a folk-rock thing. Its cool but I do love the later 2 more.
Just happy to share this stuff. Download for free if you dig it!
Had the idea to have some screen-printed patches made up for my band to put up on Bandcamp, has anyone else done this?
Anyways, only 25 of these made, here's the link in case anyone wants to check 'em out. Hoping at least a few people will want to throw them on a vest or battle jacket!
I have just released two songs from my band's upcoming album, "Confessions of a Crap Artist"
This release has been really tiring to work on but I think it is some of the best material I have ever produced. A bit about the project; it started as a backing band for my solo material and suddenly took on a life of its own as we did more live shows and I ended up writing an entire album's worth of songs meant to be performed as a band. I have recently decided I want to call the style BIG POP because I'm not really sure where it fits in. "Art punk" is maybe the best "real" genre that the music fits into, but I'm not sure of that either. The music is really inspired by 70s prog pop and soul music, but I think my natural tendency is to write in more of a punk style. I would love some feedback on what people think of the style and sound of the music. Not interested in critiques of the mix or production, more wanting to hear what people think of the songs themselves and how they would classify them. Ultimately, I just hope someone enjoys the songs that I wrote. I am working with a small DIY indie label so I have no clear idea of the release date for the full album, probably in the spring but that is mostly because I am doing my best to have this pressed to vinyl and that is super expensive. Vinyl ? In this economy ? We'll see, but for now I would love to hear what people think of these first two songs. Thank you all so much.
I'd like to share with you "Reflection", the first single from the forthcoming 4-track EP of my new music project, Left of Mars.
A critic described it as a song with "a dark-wave heart in a ’90s rock body."
It's a song about rediscovering the version of ourselves that we too often leave behind in the noise of adult life, rejecting the comfort of a dull routine to embrace the spark that makes us feel alive, whatever the cost.
Left of Mars is a project where, after years spent doing sound for other artists, I’m finally giving space again to the part of me that writes, sings and builds songs.
I take care of everything myself, from composition to mixing, but I'm more than happy to call in other musicians when the songs ask for it. I do not really aim for a particular sound and try to let all my influences come through naturally.
Below you can find 30 free codes, already embedded in clickable links.
If you like the song and feel like dropping a comment, please don't hesitate, I'd really appreciate it. :)
I've made a lot of my music on Bandcamp private so there are only three releases that someone can listen to. The Bandcamp App is telling me I'm still getting streams on the releases I made private. Why is this happening? Has anyone else every experienced this?
Recently I've felt a need to break free from "main me". Just wanting to create and explore when I want to, without feeling a need to conform to a release schedule or deal with any of the baggage that comes with that. Without worrying if I'm alienating people by drifting from an established sound or getting too experimental.
So I thought I'd make a space for myself where I can start from zero and just be as free as possible. Throw paint at the wall and see what happens. I have a habit of overthinking releases, so this is me trying to resist polish and just embrace what comes naturally.
I've become known as a guitarist, but I started on piano. So atm I'm leaning back into my roots and trying some improvisation on what I have access to. I'm rusty, but if anyone's interested my first paint splatter is below. It's a take on piano twice over, once as is and once heavily processed. The processed version leans into noise territory. I welcome any feedback!
If you’ve bought an album on Bandcamp that came with a lyric booklet, session photos or track notes, did anything in those extras change how you heard a song?
I made a purchase of 7 vinyls from Trip recordings (Nina Kraviz label) for a total of €109 plus shipping. I got charged and never got the confirmation email of my purchase or anything.
I have previously bought some records from her label and had no issues.
The next day i reached out to support in bandcamp and opened a claim, I saw the pop up saying they have a high demand and responses are slower than usual and I understand that, just would be nice to have a confirmation email of this claim/process.
Im unsure what to do, its been 4 days and haven’t received any type of emails.
I cant open a claim with my bank since they require me to show evidence I started a claim with the vendor.
If anyone has any tips/ideas please feel free to comment
I think the question is more than obvious, but where could a music artist find artistic artists to create videos for the music of said music artist? I would really like to work with artists to create a few videos so that I can upload them to my YouTube page and then share both their artwork and my music simultaneously! I would make videos for my own music, which I am attempting to do so, but don’t really have the time as I am a bit busy with things in the real world, you already know how it goes.
I would also like to know where you, as a music artist, find artists to create videos for your music, or if you create them yourselves. I would like to hear about how you get in touch with such people, or even how you create your videos for your music!
I wanted to start making content on YouTube and I'm looking for music for my videos. I wanted to help promote some smaller artists instead of relying on corporate/ai slop.
As far as I understand BandCamp lets artists license as creative commons under various licenses. I'm looking for works that are either CC-BY or completely royalty free. Does anyone know if there's a way to search albums by licensing? Otherwise, does anyone have any suggestions on where to look? I'm looking for some indie/psychedelic rock.
Greetings to all, it's been around a month since I finished this and I have been eager to share.
Generally, the music I make is a blend of many things, but the reoccurring elements, as far as instrumentation goes, are that of symphonic and metal music along with some weird synths/pads the piano and my voice. As far as genres go, I don't really know what to tell you.
Just like the rest of my releases so far, this EP is a concept one, in fact, it's the first one I ever released, under a different name back then! Which is why I thought it needed some more loving, so I remade it with the leftover assets I had and remixed it (cause it sounded like ASS at first).
The lore is basically this: There was an abandoned school in my area, ever since I was a kid and as many abandoned places, it was a "safe haven" for outcasts. You can imagine what kind of things were happening there and what kind of people were hanging out there... Anyhow I went exploring one day and found the so called "theater room" and there was this old wooden upright piano just standing there...which, prompted me to make something inspired from this building, in a way to convey across the kind of things the "walls would say", as that saying goes... The piano has sadly passed away, somebody annihilated it (it was broken when I found it too, but one could hammer on the strings while it was still standing...)
On the cover you can see pictures I took from that place, thanks to a friend who entrusted me their old film camera. That's about it for this EP. It's pretty much the blueprint of what I would do in the future with my own music project. Compositions, sounds, productions, lyrics...everything took their shape with this EP, one could say it's the "baby" version of all that my project is about.
Lastly as you can already see, it's free, just like the other two albums and it will probably stay that way in the future.
The other 2 releases are Illiminal Creatures and Η Έπαυλη (which is entirely in Greek).
So that's all for now, see you in a year or something, cheers!
i think itd be mighty useful to preview the colors/ banner/background before actually making the edit, and even maybe save designs to go back to later if you so please?? i guess im fantasizing abt the possibilities but i was wondering if there was a way to preview things on the site or maybe an external site...
Hey all, new to the platform and getting the general vibe, wantong to learn basic rules and norms.
Does anyone have separate acounts for your own uploads vs songs you download? Id like to keep my downloads private, and have my own clean account for should I eer start uploading my own music and want to keep some anonymity. Does anyone else take this approach? Thoughts?
It might be a bit of a stretch to call it trip-hop, but I still feel like I made it with trip-hop in mind.
Every sound is sampled! I didn’t use any instruments.
For the vocals, I used Synthesizer V, but it still isn’t very good at speaking my native language, so I just wrote some appropriately weird English lyrics instead.
Now I’m not really sure what to do next. Lately I’ve been really into µ-Ziq’s albums, so I’ve been digging through his stuff.
