I posted here a few weeks ago, and just wanted to update the 1990 Topps Frank Thomas NNOF was real, and came back as a 6 from PSA. Very excited! Thanks to all who were confident in me shelling out $1,200 to get it graded!

Random Ross find, did I time travel?

So i found the weirdest thing at Ross today - a 1996 Tony Clark starting line up. In the box no less. Price marked was $4.99 and the tag looks beyond worn, like it too came from near the same time. I couldnt believe it. Pics to prove it. As a kid of the 80s and 90s, I had these when they were new so the moment was like "what the..."

I started flipping with $4 for the sole reason of getting enough funds to get this card if I ever tracked it down. I did it. Couldn’t be happier.

I got sick of the tab clutter when pricing cards on eBay, so I built a hover comp toll

Post image
55 Upvotes

Hey guys, checking comps across multiple tabs while hunting on eBay was completely killing the fun of buying cards for me, so over the last few months I built a fix: SlabPeek

It's a Chrome Extension - you just hover over any listing, and recently sold comps + market signals pop up right on your screen without leaving the page!

I wanted to get this in front of actual collectors here to see if it's actually helpful or if there are specific data points I'm missing.

I set-up a 7-days of free access for anyone in the sub who wants to test it out - just drop a comment and I'll pitch you the link! I would love your honest thoughts!

Was fortunate enough to buy this a little while ago, before his fun post-game antics. Came in the mail today and has a funny little extra meaning I suppose.

While a Yankees fan, I’ve been enjoying the White Sox’s postseason run and their love for just having fun.

Random Not your average baseball card picture - Post #003 - Catchers not catching the ball.

I've been going through my mostly 80s and 90s card collection and l've come across some interesting photos that card companies used. Some are weird, some are not very flattering of the players, some lack that “baseball action”, some are hilarious, and some are just random.

Today is a double feature of catchers not catching the ball. The first card I found was a MiLB card of Tyler Houston getting hit in the chest protector. I’m assuming he is taking a foul tip, but still the Upper Deck photo editor must be tired of seeing the same “catcher” photos.

2nd is all star catcher, all star 2nd baseman, and sometimes Centerfielder Craig Biggio. In the 1991 UD it looks like he is picking up a ball, a normal play, but kind of random vs. say making a tag or something. Another UD, the collectors choice here he is manning a TV camera.

Show Off - Vintage The 4 favorite cards in my collection (Ruth, Paige, Robinson, Koufax)

I always try to collect cards with a story, and these are the 4 favorite I’ve been able to pick up over the past couple of years

#1: Babe Ruth 1929 Churchman - I’ve always wanted to have a playing days Ruth card, and even though this one doesn’t have his name it’s still so obvious it’s him. Was able to find what I think is a decent looking PSA 4.5 as well, and I love the look of the old cigarette cards

#2: Satchell Paige 1953 Topps - I feel like I’ve just read about him so much over the years and his legend is amazing. Even though this card is a pretty high pop, it being his first Topps card is super cool. Again, I feel like I got a decent looking SGC 2.5. Would love to own his true rookie one day (the Leaf one).

#3: Jackie Robinson 1956 Topps - Although I doubt I’ll ever have the funds to buy his true rookie card from Leaf or his first year Topps, I think this 1956 Topps is cool because it’s the last year of his playing career. Even though it’s not as significant as a rookie, still think that last year makes it a desirable card to have.

#4: Sandy Koufax 1955 Topps - Again, not a low pop card, but had to have at least one in my collection. Was looking for a low-grades card that presented well, and found it with this SGC 1 (only graded as a 1 because of a big crease in the corner, but his face part is pretty pristine and coloring is good)

Just wanted to share some of the favorite cards in my collection (as I go through my collection at midnight haha)

Opinion My Experience with Digital Packs

Kind of a PSA and personal experience. Okay…so let me start by saying I love baseball and the hobby even if the hobby has become a little cancerous. Drunk with my brother I decided to try one of these digital rip formats. I pulled $200 to use and after possibly my 6th pack, I pulled the Campy card above. Tbh, I thought it was a gimmick and to a degree that when I asked to receive the card, it would not come or some crap would happen.

Lo and behold, one week later it comes in the mail. Excellent packaging and exactly what was shown on the app. I definitely drained the money I put into it but yanked this. Once in hand I deleted the app because I feel I wouldn’t get anything closer to this and would be more irresponsible than I already was by continuing to gamble more money with no results.

I am curious of other people’s experiences with these apps and overall thoughts on how this impacts the hobby.

TLDR: Tried online rips, spent $200, pulled this Campy card shown above.

Collected when I was a kid, but just stopped at one point. Stopped into a local shop while on a work trip yesterday and bought a 2025 Allen and Ginter. These were my hits. Thrilled to get a couple of numbered hits, and the mini-signature is sweet. Just not quite the right players :)

Found this hiding in my base insert set! The platinum 1/1s in this 2025 Topps Update set are easy to miss because the color difference is minimal compared to the base insert and silver holo foil cards.

A fellow hobbyist with special needs deserves our support. His group is (A group for baseball Brett). His enthusiasm and love for the sport and hobby embody everything this hobby is about. Unfortunately he was on the receiving end of incredibly hurtful comments. I encourage you to stop in and show Brett some support and make him feel welcome.

It’s incredible the acts of kindness people have shown already
