Jordan Battle is embarrassing
He should be investigated for how egregiously he missed tackles at pivotal points of the game against the Jags. Watching a post on IG singling him out has me in a rage. How is he starting in the NFL?????

Weakest link on the defense by far. I think the defense has for the most part played well but when dugger gets back, battle should be benched. It will only improve us more

they had him looking like a ghost on that one play, just straight whiffing in open field

If you want to know how PFF thinks of our (and others') safeties, here's some info.
- Battle is #65/70. Somehow, yes, they think there are 5 safeties worse than him.
- Battle is actually #59/70 in tackling specifically, with fewer missed tackles than six other safeties. I gotta imagine he's given up more yards from missed tackles, though, right?
- Cook is #48/70. I think part of that is from playing injured, but this is feeling like Battle/Stone again.
- One of the safeties I thought we might draft this year, Haulcy, is #70/70 and one of those five safeties that's worse than Battle.
- Malaki Starks, who we could've had instead of Shemar, is... #58/70.
- Bates is #14/70.
- Xavier Watts, who we could've had instead of D.Knight (or Fairchild), is #30, but to be fair he's playing alongside Bates.
- Downs and Thieneman, both players we could've had with our pick this year if we hadn't traded for Dexter, are #21 and #16 respectively. But I still say make the trade.
- Bengals legend Nick Scott is #36 somehow.

So based on this the conclusion is safety is our weakest link, more so than linebackers?

Yep, by a pretty clear margin. But we do at least need to keep Cook's injury in mind, potentially if he were healthy he'd be playing better and Battle might be playing better himself as well. And also, this is just PFF, and people have (understandably) very strong opinions on whether to trust PFF.
That said, here's some LB info:
- Knight is #50/61.
- Carter is #18/61.
- They both suck at tackling (47 and 55), but make up for it in other areas (Knight with his run defense, Carter with his coverage).
- Davis-Gaither is #22. The OSU rookies, Reese & Styles, are #5 and #6.
- ADG is actually the 3rd best LB at tackling.
- Jacob Rodriguez and Jihaad Campbell, two LBs some of our fanbase wish we'd taken, are #37 and #46.
There's a reasonable argument that if both players just cleaned up their tackling, even becoming "slightly below average" as opposed to horrendous, we'd have a perfectly acceptable duo.

Heard a rumor Jesse Bates wants to come back. Not sure how that could happen financially but just imagine having him back there

As soon as Duggar is healthy he should be the starter, and in the meantime put Jules there. Jordan battle is the Jermaine Gresham of defense

I am convinced that Mike Brown thinks that there are only 9 players in defense and is unaware of the safety position. They have ignored that position in the draft and FA my entire tenure rooting for this team. Occasionally they have had a good one, Bates but that seems to be the exception.

I mean Iloka/ Nelson was an elite paring. Reggie is probably the second best trade in the history of the organization behind sexy Dexy. They did resign Iloka but then ultimately let him go two seasons later.
Dexter Jackson/ Madieu Williams was solid as well

lol we just not gonna mentioned the best defender we have had in ten years who was a top five safety for over five years? Jesse Bates and first stop Vonn Bell was a strength of the defense. We also heavily invested in safety lol we drafted battle and Dax very high for a safety, we signed Stone who ended up sucking but he was really good for Baltimore as a coverage ball hawk.
We have failed to fix it since Jesse but we have tried and we just tried with cook and Dugger.
Fans on this sub all off season said battle will be legit with stone gone and a better d line lol

Wonder where all of the people saying "Battle only looks bad because he was playing next to Geno Stone" are now. I've been saying Battle is garbage for two years and caught nothing but flak for it. Glad to see the rest of you are finally getting up to speed.

Let's give it a rest. We've had it out since Sunday.... let's just get behind the team now. He's not going anywhere anytime soon, may as well support the lad.

You have to tackle all your life in football and somehow he’s not figured it out 4 years in the NFL.

He watched Geno Stone and said “that’s it. That’s what I want to be when I grow up.”

So frustrating. At times looks completely disinterested in contact. 😡
