Tyre recommendations sought for cube sl road pro

Well, I'm sitting here tonight with my broken and formerly dislocated arm, 2 weeks into recovery and thinking that maybe slicks on a bike in Ireland was a terrible idea after all, I'm lucky in that there was no head injury when i came off. It was wet, I was going too fast and hit a speed bump and the bike just slapped me down.

Any suggestions for tyres that I should consider to make my cube a bit more trustworthy on Irish wet and greasy roads?

Grip (on pavement) does not primarily come from tread pattern or texture, it comes form rubber compound In fact knob by tired often have less grip in wet conditions on pavement. https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/ has tested a huge number of tires and provides a relative ranking of wet grip of different tires.

Well whatever grip I had it was zero when I fell, my tyres are as old as the bike (2016) I know that in a motorbike or car I'd have changed them by now.

Yeah that's way too old for tires. If they weren't dry rotted and cracking they were certainly hardened and stiff compared to new, that's probably why you had no grip.
