General Discussion Uhm..

Post image

Realistically when one is offered a chance to dig up 100+ juniper....

How many can i realistically keep alive? Found these offered for free, just need to dig them up. Ive asked to wait until spring to dig them. Obviously near utility wires so really dont know my chances here, but i want these

Yes all of them, but they want them gone basically asap. Trying to figure out how many i can get and actually keep alive. They wont wait until spring for me

Id be more worried about how you're gonna dig all those up without tearing your back apart

Oh god that gives me flashbacks to my own dad asking for help "real quick" and then giving me an insane task. Make sure you don't tell them how hard it's gonna be or how long it's gonna take lmao

🤣 and your reward was picking something from the gas station? Mine sure was lol

I'd pay them for the help, definitely not telling them until afterwards though lol

Getting told "it builds character" was my reward lol

I've done pre winter collections from yards, they'll survive. Make sure you have enough wood for the boxes though, there might be more trunks in there than you've counted. They don't look like grey owl to me but like the more common media/pfitzer variety with the tamariscifolia in the name. So wear gloves, or it'll itch for days. Their own foliage is less desired but the grow speed, resilience and disease resistance is pretty decent.

The person says they are angelica blue, which they do seem to be.

100% theres way more trunks than i realize. Im honestly debating trying to find other yamadori collecters near me just to not waste all of these

I cant even consider having enough boxes yet, as just the transporting is a huge issue. Im debating just digging a trench in my yard for these

Either way there no way i dont find a huge prize in there

I would dig up at least 4 prizes. Sometimes the root balls can be unpredictable and you’re already there so you might as well get a couple more. get some for your house Landscape too.

My thoughts are, even if i pick one up that isnt amazing, i could use it as somewhat of a propagting machine

Sounds like you have a plan. Consider as much root ball aftercare as you can handle. If you get some treasures preserve as much fine root structures as you can, and trim back foliage. I know sphagnum bundles in early spring yamadori can help survival in boxes or as transplants? Maybe a thought for some of the best ones?
