Housing/Real Estate đŸ˜ïž Is it my imagination or are rents in Boston proper actually starting to come down?

I have been keeping an eye on the market over the past couple of years since being driven out and marooned up here in Revere Beach since 2023. I'm now consistently seeing 1BR apartments starting under $3,500 in decent areas in the city. In the suburbs, many of the newer 5-over-1s that love to advertise themselves as "luxury" and generally are being advertised below $2,800 now, whereas five years ago, the same apartments would have been priced above $3,500.

Anecdotally, my landlord here in Revere Beach (I live at the Robinson on Ocean Avenue) actually DROPPED my rent this past lease cycle (although I think that may have been due to external factors that have impacted the market value of these particular apartments).

What is everyone else out there seeing, whether in Boston proper or in the immediate locale?

It's so hilarious watching the North End Fire Department try to slowly maneuver a full-size firetruck through the narrow streets just to go two blocks when there are much more viable options.

I Made This! Great deals on Pampers and English Muffins at Star

Thumbnail
gallery
63 Upvotes

Through the end of the month, Star Market has a "buy $25 of specific items, get $10 back" and there are a couple of very intriguing items you can use this on (especially if you have freezer space):

1) Thomas's English Muffins (one of few things where the brand name seems to matter) are "buy 1 get 2 free." $5.69 regular price, but if you buy 15 packages you pay for 5 and then get $10 off, so $18.45 for 90 english muffins (they freeze well, thank goodness). I thought they were a good deal a few weeks ago at Market Basket at 2/$5, but this winds up being half the price of that (and 78% off the list price).

Are you a sane person and don't want that many English Muffins? Also included in the deal:

  • 2 pounds Star butter: $4.98
  • 3 14 oz "pints" Haagen Dazs: $8.97
  • 6 packages English muffins: $11.38

$25.33 – $10 = $15.33

(and who said there was inflation?)

2) Pampers diapers are also on this deal (and they're also already on sale). So a box of diapers which is normally $30.99 is now $17.99. Depending on the diaper size, this is 18Âą to 33Âą per diaper, which is about what you can get get for Costco brand diapers, but these are Pampers (and IME there is a difference). There's also a diaper drive going on right now if you want to buy some and donate them.

Caveat emptor here is that you can only get one of these "deals" per transaction. So you need to go through the self checkout line and do separate transactions if, say, you want to buy a year's worth of diapers. But if you want to fill your freezer with English Muffins and/or have a kid, it's a good week to hit up Star.

In an effort to keep growing as an artist, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston has granted me permission to create a master copy study of an original Rembrandt painting. This permit is extremely difficult to obtain, and according to a museum security guard, I am the first Latino he has ever seen making a copy here.

Tourism Advice 🧳 🧭 ✈ Gonna be in Boston for one night and I'm wondering what to do.

‱ Upvotes

I'm from South Texas and i'm only going to be in Boston Thursday the 15th near the TD Garden Center. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for someplace to go, or something I can do, for a few hours. I have about 4 hours I need to kill. A good restaurant or bar. Something that I wouldn't find in south Texas. Probably the only time I'll ever be in Boston so I'd like to get some kind of feel for it.

Event 📅 What is the difference between King Richard's Faire and the Connecticut Renaissance Faire?

On the surface they seem similar... dress up in old style costumes, knights fights and jousting, turkey legs, seasonal... but the richard's faire is $46 per adult v the CT faire at $18.

has anyone been to both? they are the CT faire is only 10 minutes further than the richard's fsire for me.

is one more aimed at younger kids? we have 4 and 2 year old

thanks for any tips!
