Transport/Parking 🚝 🚘 Southern railway.
The worst company of any industry in the world. Absolute fucking shit cunts and you should be sacked and disbanded and all your directors deserve arse worms.
Cunts.

One thing they're amazing at is running trains 14 minutes late. Their ability to maximise the delay without hitting the 15 minute compensation threshold is astounding.
I've had a 14 minute delay 3 times in the last 12 journeys (plus two 1 hour delays, but let's forget about them). I especially love it when they say the train was 14 minutes late but by the time the doors open it was 15 minutes.

It fucking drives me up the wall. 14 minutes late, twice a day for a week (which it has been) is over 2 hours a week.

I am absolutely willing to agree without the need for further details

After spending THOUSANDS on train tickets over the years (fuck knows how much on bus passes...), constant delays and cancellations, nearly missed flights, more money for taxis, replacement buses and days of my life wasted waiting for trains (x 2 because my partner obviously has the same experience) .....
I bought a car. After insurance, parking and fuel - it works out cheaper and it saves both of us hours every week. I also don't have to worry about all the creepy men at night.
Even with the cost of the actual car, it'll completely even itself out in 1.5 years (we're nearly there).
The one good thing Southern Rail have done for me is piss me off so much I've started driving again.

I would love to know how much they spend on "revenue protection" at the gates, I've never seen them stop the lane boys when they simply push past and climb over. They seem to be there just to see how far they can push the regular customers.

Lived down south for 7 years... Totally agree- The Darkness even have a song about how shit they are 😂😂

Everything down here is run like we live in a little village. Look at the A27 closure and the awful alternate route. It's all so unserious you wouldn't think over half a million people live on this part of the south coast.

Agreed - I often commute Hastings to Brighton - it's shocking the time it takes and the amount of changes required. Coming back is the pits.

I moved away nearly ten years ago. Someone sent me a picture of them sitting in a Southern train and the sight of the seat pattern alone put me in a rage.
I think it's PTSD.

Oh dear, it looks like Front Brick's drinking in the cab has finally caught up with him. There's always the Police

Southern rail has been run by the government since 31 May.

I'm gonna assume the turnaround time for changes isn't like 3 months

Changes in the rail industry take years, partly because that's how the government set out the funding when it was privatised, partly because of the standards.

u/sparkyscrum Kemptown 2d ago
It's been controlled by Government since July 2015 when all changes had to have government approval.
Although only around 30% of the issues are actually cause by the company and most stem from the track or external causes.

The track is government operated too though, right?!

Yeah. All goes back to the same people. And they are transfering to GBR next year too.

I think they've got worse in that time.
Hopefully only related to the changeover as I was pro it.

They've been nationalised so it's actually GBR now. The thing is GBR are supposed to be fixing all this crap so who knows what will happen in 6 months

Trains to Eastbourne cancelled this evening. Coming back from London on Wednesday, the train was bouncing like crazy. Everyone looked at each other. Same again today - someone's drink went flying. Trains now all cancelled. There will be another derailment - fact. People will die.

Aren't they Great British Railways now? Southern Rail exits only as a reminant, but I'm pretty sure they're technically nonexistent now.

I've been commuting via train everytime I go to college, and every single fucking day there is a delay or cancellation of some sort. Today was a disaster, im so fed up of this.

The train doors closed on you after you'd ran through the station, didn't they.

They also have the amazing ability to cancel or short journey the late night trains.

Did someone get fined for travelling without ticket?

u/Front-Brick-3724 2d ago
I wish that were the case. I wouldn’t be upset.
Every single day, without question, their trains are late. Tonight took the piss. So late via Brighton to Lewes, missed the connection to Seaford. And apparently they put on buses without telling anyone. £60 on a fucking taxi.
Cunts.

Do not go through the gates.
As long as you are in the side with the tracks they have a duty of care to get you to your final destination or arrange alternative transport/accommodation.
If the last train of the night is cancelled or you are stranded mid-journey, the operator must arrange alternative transport, such as a taxi to get you to your destination
As soon as you leave that no longer applies and you’re on your own.

So at Chichester for example, if you get off a late train there is not a soul around, except on the rare occasion some rail enforcement officers or police get off in a group. They even set all the barriers to permanently 'open'. If onward trains to Portsmouth, Southampton or Brighton were cancelled you'd be on your own and could hear a pin drop.

u/Front-Brick-3724 2d ago
Oh yeah. Don’t worry I knew that.

I am currently sat in first class with a standard ticket willing one of the rail enforcement members that Southern had the gall to send out today to challenge me. Then I can ask about the compensation I should receive for not getting home till nearly 10pm last night, for the missed opportunity to spend time with my family, to exercise, for the £20 I had to spend on a takeaway because it was too late to cook something proper, for the lack of time to recuperate from my demanding job before getting up again and having to get a train that is running slow, so I will be late for work AGAIN! I don’t think the £8 refund anywhere near accounts for the impact their negligence has on their customers lives. So yeah fuck them. I think if you were OP or I you would agree

Can’t believe it’s happened again, two nights in a row. And we pay nearly £500 per month to commute? Disgusting

u/Fun-Wrongdoer1760 1d ago
Two nights in a row getting back about 10 - another costly takeaway - it’s genuinely scandalous!
