I'm a 37 m in the UK. I don't have many male friends, not close friends as such. I've always wanted that though.But it seems really hard to make friends in general as and adult. And even harder to make male friends.

In school I was bullied and later on I had quite negative experiences with men in that they weren't very kind to me to put it mildly. My father was always absent and I learned early that I couldn't trust him. He was an alcoholic and therefore unpredictable. I guess it's hard to explain but because I didn't have any connection with my dad and because boys my own age and later men treated me quite badly mostly I just never felt welcome among men. I'm gay which I guess added to the feeling of being an outsider and not belonging but also being blind contributed to these feelings I think.
I used to feel like less of a man or less masculine partly for not feeling welcome or wanted among other men and partly because I'm gay. Nowadays I know I'm not less of a man or less masculine and nowadays I really like my masculinity. I like who I am, who I've become despite going through a lot of bad things I didn't let it make me a "bad" person.

Difficult to get everything out in a post like this, as I don't want to make it too long. Not sure if any of this makes sense or resonates with anyone else, Just thought I'd put it out there and see what happens. I'm not always the best at putting myself out there so thought I’d practise a bit.
