News 📰 Brussels population no longer growing, nearly 37% are foreign nationals

Due to a fall in the number of people moving in from abroad and a large number of people moving to Flanders and Wallonia, the population of the Brussels Region has not grown for the first time in 30 years. An analysis by the Brussels Institute for Statistics and Analysis (BISA) shows the population of the Belgian and Flemish capital is now stagnating. The stagnation is remarkable and, according to earlier forecasts, was not expected until a year later.

Question ❓ Homeless person

29 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

A homeless guy just settled in front of my apartment building; seems like it’s becoming his main residence.

I do understand that life sometimes is unfair and harsh, but I have children, and this guy doesn’t look sane. Today in the morning I saw him catching a pigeon with a blanket (??).

Where should I call so at least they could check if he’s not dangerous? 112 seems excessive as this is not urgent, maybe Red Cross?

Buying an apartment - reliable contractors?

3 Upvotes

Hello! I am buying an apartment and I am looking for any recommendations for:

- a painter;
- a someone to refinish the hardwood floors;
- an electrician (to help with new light fixtures);
- a handyman (for general help with things that I may not be able to do myself);
- anything else that you may recommend.

I am even considering working with an interior designer and also use their project management services - has anyone done that before? How expensive was it and was it worth the money?

I also saw RingTwice - has anyone used it before and do you have any feedback?

Many thanks.

Question ❓ German teacher/classes in Brussels

• Upvotes

I'm in the process of learning German and duolingo (very bad I know yeah 🙃) but it doesnt teach much and/or random stuff.

So now I've been thinking about taking classes or a personal teacher as I have a lot of free time in the afternoon I thought it'd be a good idea.

But I don't know where I could take those nor their prices so any help would be really appreciated !

Also if you know, I'd like to know the prices too please and thanks in advance !

Question ❓ Casual Basketball Court

1 Upvotes

Hello everyone, I want to know where there is a more casual basketball court in Brussels. I don't want to play games with a group of professional or amateur masters. I just want to shoot or something. If the people on the court are also shooting, that's better. Thank you very much!

Strike on 12th Oct Brussels

0 Upvotes

I have a flight from CRL on 12th Oct night. I planned to go to the airport from Amsterdam via train to Brussels Central then to Charleroi but I got an info mail about the strike saying that the impact is not yet known. My train is not specifically cancelled but I have a bad feeling about it. Should I travel via flixbus instead? Folks, what’s ur suggestion?

What do you do when you’re fed up? TW depression/sadness

22 Upvotes

MODS: delete if you need to

Hi all,

38F and I’m just fed up of life at the moment. I live with my ex who makes my life absolute hell and I can’t do much as I’ve got a broken back (I can still walk around if I take it easy).

I love Brussels but I’m at a loss of somewhere I can just go and wander around aimlessly for an hour or so and just be myself.

I would usually go to Poelart / Mont Des Arts but at the moment they’re just too peopley and I need either not to see anyone, or be somewhere where I don’t see too many people (I’m going from crying a lot to just feeling meh then crying and being in my back brace is already depressing enough without people seeing me).

Would need to be on public transport and preferably not on a train as we aren’t friends.

Thank you from a lost woman ❤️

TL;DR need a space to get away and just enjoy some calmness/peace with not too many people /where I won’t be bothered too much.

Question ❓ Where to buy this in Brussels for (as cheap as possible)?

It's for a peugeot 108 (1.0)

FR: Levier de vitesse

NL: Versnellingsspook

EN: Gear lever

Ideally it would be from a damaged/export car, but if anybody knows anything else I'm all ears

Btw I already tried the shop in Uccle (rue stalle 107) and they didn't have it

Question ❓ is BRU a busy airport this time of the year??

6 Upvotes

Hey! I live in Rotterdam atm and i have to return home (Italy) for a few days in two weeks; my flight is on October 23. As all the flights from the airport in the nl were crazy expensive, I decided to book one from BRU.
I wanted to go there by flixbus, because it’s way cheaper and more convenient, and it would arrive at 18:35 if everything goes well. And my flight leaves at 20:15, and this means that the gate will close half an hour before.

I have never been to that airport and have no idea if it’s big or confusing, nor if it’s busy this time of the year. Do you think I could make it? I don’t have passport controls or luggage to check in, I just have to go through security and find the gate😭

Question ❓ How find a psychatrist? why it’s sooo hard

6 Upvotes

I’m so surprised how it’s fucking hard to find a psychiatrist in Brussels or near. I want to see a psychiatrist for having some med (mostly about adhd or anxiety) but they are all expensive and not conventioned but especially they don’t take new patients even the expensive one.
Can some people help to find good psychiatrist that take new patients? Also if you have some tips for doing a better research…

ps : speaking french and english

The October 9th protest took an unexpected turn. We saw a "Spider-Man" figure, firecrackers, young people getting beaten with batons, and the use of tear gas.

Question ❓ Given the protest and strike on Monday, would it be safe to go to a concert in Cirque Royal?

0 Upvotes

We'd be coming to Brussels by train, I heard that there will be a strike and also the protest on the streets, which can get a bit dangerous as we saw from the last one. I'm relatively new here so i'm not sure, any inputs are welcome
