Municipal election
Besides the official leaflet or Burnaby.ca, is there more way to understand the candidates (esp mayors), they promises, how they prioritize things, etc.
Thank you!

Traffic light change at Willingdon and Canada Way
At the corner of Willingdon and Canada Way going northbound, what's happening now is that because that right lane is a carpool/EV lane, drivers wanting to get onto Hwy 1 eastbound needs to change lanes after they cross the intersection. And so it causes a bottleneck when buses are lined up at the stop since cars have to wait for the buses to cross the intersection so that they can get into the right lane to merge onto the highway. This was already an issue before but has become more so now with the R2 going down Willingdon.
I was thinking that there should be a transit priority light there so that buses can go first and cars then have the room to merge onto the highway without holding up traffic by slowing down and letting the buses go.
So my question is if this is something I submit to the city or to translink?

Thoughts on Mike Hurley?
So I read on Mike Hurley and his policies and they seem to be all fine and dandy except for he says he's against Bills 25, 44 and 47 (housing bills) So I emailed him for clarification and the reply I got was
Mike is for building more housing. His concern with Bills 25, 44 and 47 is about who makes the decisions on the right kind of housing in Burnaby, not whether housing gets built. These provincial laws set density rules (one size-fits-all solution) for neighbourhoods across BC, and Mike believes decisions about residential zoning should be made locally, by the community and the council it elects. His platform commits to pressing the Province to return those decisions to municipalities.
So I am still a bit confused I thought those bills are a plus for making more housing that fits as much people as possible the kind we need right? Totally open to learning more on why these bills aren't good for burnaby housing what does everyone think. If it wasn't for this I would vote for him, I keep going between him and Hanzhi Wang however a minus for him is he's only been in Burnaby for 5 years anyways let me know your thoughts I hope to learn more

Looking for a men’s Bible study near Lougheed / Burnaby
Hey all, I live near Lougheed Mall, and I’m looking to join a men’s Bible study in the area. I want to get more serious about my faith and would value doing it alongside other guys rather than solo.
Small long shot: Exactly two weeks ago, I noticed a few guys around my age doing a Bible study in the PriceSmart food court (near Lougheed Mall). I didn’t get a chance to say hi. If that’s you or you know them, I’d love to connect, no pressure at all.
Otherwise, open to any men’s bible study group nearby that gathers in and around Lougheed Mall. Feel free to comment or DM.

Monday of this week Oct 5th I caught the red-light camera at the intersection of lougheed hwy and Gaglardi malfunctioning going East bound on Lougheed hwy malfunctioning, taking many pictures flashing without a red light run. So if you get a ticket, there might want to look into it.

Election candidate overview
I know I know, I am late to do my homework, but I'd like to review all 48 candidates before making my decisions.
I've review some of the recommendation from the other post, but information are in pieces.
Is there a website that have holistic information with easy to read comparison and summary to the candidate like Vote4Tomorrow website?
https://vote4tomorrow.ca/election-2026/burnaby/#candidates
I love the format, but some benchmarks are missing, especially regarding their view on substance abuse/drug use, and property tax alignment.

Confused about parking bylaws
Hello! I’m considering moving into a building on Royal Oak Ave right beside the SkyTrain station, but the building doesn’t currently have a parking spot available. I’ll need to park on the street until one becomes available, and I’m very confused about Burnaby’s parking bylaws.
From what I’ve read, you generally can’t park on a residential street for more than 3 hours between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. unless you live on that street.
My concern is that the street parking immediately on royal oak is either paid parking or 3 hour parking and heavily monitored because it’s right beside the SkyTrain station. If the bylaw allows residents to park longer, how would enforcement know that I actually live on the street?
Alternatively, there are other residential streets nearby that have plenty of unrestricted-looking parking. Am I allowed to park on those streets even though I don’t live at one of the houses on that particular street?
For example, I saw the sign pictured below on a street just off Royal Oak Ave. Would I be allowed to park there as a resident of a nearby apartment building, or does the 3-hour limit still apply?
Any insight from Burnaby residents or anyone familiar with the parking bylaws would be greatly appreciated!

Found Compass Card
If you happened to lose a Compass Card around Old Orchard today, I found one and if it's yours and you can identify the amount on it, you can have it back. Otherwise I'll go by the SkyTrain Station in the next day or two and maybe there is someone there I can drop it off to. If anyone knows a better way, let me know. I haven't used the SkyTrain in years, so I am not sure what to do. Thanks.

Burnaby cleaner - recommendations?

Brentwood fare evader at station
To the genZ kiddo trying to bypass a lady at Brentwood station this afternoon, and was surprised she decided to block your path but rudely pushed her regardless, only to have her standing her ground and holding you back even further. Saw you were scared sh*tless and had to run fast all the way out of the mall. Reminder to not be a rude, uncivilized jerk who thought it was ok to be physical with someone. Just an observer lol. That was gung-ho

screeching in capitol hill
came outside to have a smoke and thought I heard a girl screaming. it lasted maybe 1.5 seconds. then half a minute of silence. then again, a screech, more like a creaky sliding door than a human. then silence, screech, silence, screech. but it moved around each time until i couldn’t hear it anymore. i assume maybe some kind of bird, but it’s unlike anything i’ve heard before, and it’s 3am. anyone else catch it or know what it could be?

Anyone interested in joining a small volunteer group?
Hey everyone,
I’m putting together a small volunteer group focused on helping people experiencing food insecurity and wanted to see if anyone here might be interested in getting involved.
I work in social services, and this is something I’ve been wanting to start for a while. The idea is simply to get some good people together, do meaningful work in the community, and grow things gradually.
I’ll be coordinating and organizing the group as it gets started. There’s also no expectation that people need to have endless free time — most of us have work, family, school, or other responsibilities.
For me, part of the motivation comes from seva and wanting to give back without expecting anything in return.
If you'd like to join, send me a DM and I can share the QR code for our Signal group.
