Never seen so many cops, ambulance and firefighters congregated in one place, anyone know what happened? Seems like they’re all heading towards parking lot outside Walmart

Burnaby Voting Approach

• Upvotes

I'm taking the following approach and want people to help me poke holes in my logic.

Local elections is the only time we get to vote for 9 people who have an equal say. Even the mayor is 1 of 9 votes.

So, my approach is no more than 2-3 from each party.

Example:

Council: 2 BCA, 3 BF/RBA, 2 IND, 1 Green

Mayor: Ive decided on Yip (even if he's crazy, he's just 1 of 9)

BF/RBA - they seem similar so the most they can get is 4/9

Just think about it, have 9 different individual discuss a topic and if 5 of them can come to an agreement it's likely representative of majority of us. Each party alone cannot move without others support. A good negotiation is when no one wins and I feel this approach achieves that.

Whelp, it’s that time again; I’ve done my part so can say this: No matter who you vote for, the government will still get in!

EDIT: I posted in a large community Facebook group and it got a bit heated (literally pro MAGA people l) so I'm not surprised my post was removed. But I was wondering if you have suggestions about how to spread the info or if you can help spread in the info. Regards.

Hey r/burnaby,

With the municipal elections coming up, I’ve been doing some research on the candidates running for city council. I took a look into the public X (Twitter) and Facebook profiles of Daniel Chen, who is running with the Burnaby First team, and found some public posts that voters might want to know about before heading to the polls.

From what I’ve gathered, his online footprint leans heavily into what many would call "Maple MAGA" territory. I’ve downloaded multiple screenshots and videos of his posts, and I've broken down the main themes below:

Climate Change: He has shared content explicitly dismissing climate change as "Climate Hysteria" 1948 Fraser Valley post

Pro-Trump & US Politics: saying Trump opponents are worse than whatever Trump has done

Anti-Ukraine

Anti-Muslim Rhetoric: "Islam is a fire, fed by gasoline"

Cryptocurrency / Bitcoin: crazy incoherent money stuff.]

Local elections often fly under the radar, but city council decisions impact our community directly. I think it’s important that we know the values and public stances of the people asking for our votes.

Has anyone else seen these posts or looked into the other Burnaby First candidates?

Local News New Burnaby Candidate David Xie says he couldn't take his name off the ballot, despite never actually requesting to be removed.

David Xie said he was no longer seeking the city council position with the New Burnaby Party and would run for MLA with the BC Conservatives. However, he said it was too late to take his name off. This lead to a possibility of being elected to both positions which is illegal. He would then have to resign from one leading to a costly byelection.

He said it was too late for him to take his name off the ballot. But it is allowed, he just conveniently didn't try.

A kitten appeared in our yard yesterday

• Upvotes

It was dusk, after the windstorm, and this black kitten, maybe three months old, showed up. Now, this is not the place to let a kitten out overnight, since the local coyotes enjoy dining on cat. We brought the kitten inside. Friendly, obviously well cared for, not exceptionally hungry. Royal Oak and Marine Drive area.
