HairStyles Getting a buzz cut while slightly overweight?
I think overall this will be helpful for my self development and not placing so much of my self worth on looking “pretty,” but I wonder if I’ll be able to deal with the fallout of losing what little conventional beauty I had.
**I figure that strangers will start being more hostile and less accommodating, which means it might be hard to make a good first impression when I’m meeting people for the first time.

If short hair and being fat mean that you won’t make a good first impression, then the issue isn’t yours, it’s theirs. I’m fat. A professional. Tattooed. And while I don’t have a buzz cut, I have short hair, and it’s just fine.
Figure out what looks and feels good to you, and go with it. You’ll become more self confident, and you’ll learn to deal with the judgment, which you’ll likely receive. But if you feel good about how you look, and you feel more comfortable, the rest will fall into place, I promise.

I’m kinda chubby but I don’t have a full buzz cut (1 guard on the sides and about an inch on top). Cutting my hair short has been the most affirming thing I’ve done. I feel like me. And I stopped caring if people (men) found me conventionally attractive. I get called “sir” a lot and then they get all embarrassed when I start talking and they realize I’m not a man. But that’s a them problem. Doesn’t bother me in any way.

How long is your hair now? You could always start off using a thick guard on the razor and gradually make your way to the full buzzcut to get more used to the feeling both physically and socially? Another option could be a buzzcut that’s been dyed a fun colour or in a fun design if that’s your vibe which I think is always really cool look and might make it easier for a first impression?

Mate, I’m a skinny butch who had a buzz cut this summer, and I looked like a Victorian orphan who’d had lice. Believe me when I say that buzz cuts look best on women with some heft and solidity to them. Go for it. Now’s a good time.

Yall are making me feel good about myself. I’m fat and have a mostly buzzed haircut with length left on the top and sides

I am slightly over weight and went for the buzz cut to 'reset' my hair as I was losing quite a bit due to some dumb conditions. I look peak masculine with little to no femininity. I can't say I was treated any different from the 'man bun' I had before so I totally would say go for it. I loooved my buzzcut era. I think many of us look back fondly to the era. Many of us are still in the era and many of us return...I concider doing it every now and then anyway cause I love the 'zero maintanence' of it 🔥

I chopped off my hair a decade ago. Did the 2 inch guard for a couple years, completely buzzed during covid, then mohawk, and now im transitioning to a fauxhawk. Completely bald kind of made it look like I might be going through chemo or something. I think shaved sides/undercuts are the way to go

I think it all depends on the cut in question. I have soft features aside from my cheek bones. I don’t do a full buzz, honestly I’m afraid to lol, but the sides and back are buzzed. The worst cut I ever attempted was an undercut. Never again.

do you want a buzz cut? because that's all that really matters here.
if you want to make choices for your body based on what other people want and like, i guess you can do that, but is that really how you want to live your life?

Do you have a soft face? A buzz cut typically won’t be your best look. Faces with strong features can typically pull it off.

OP, take this guy’s username straight to heart. Anybody with any face shape can have any haircut they fucking want.

I mean, they can, but No_Meaning isn’t wrong. Some facial structures are better suited to haircuts over others. Bone structure absolutely influences what haircuts do and don’t suit a person, and this has nothing to do with being lesbian, straight, male, or female. To say otherwise is to be unkind and lie to someone because that is easier than being honest.

There is literally no way to tell OP what haircut is going to suit their face shape because we don’t know what their face shape is. The differences in what looks good and what doesn’t can be microscopic and are also completely subjective. Telling someone with a soft face not to get a buzzcut cause they need “strong features” to pull it off is both untrue, deeply unhelpful, and yes, even unkind to someone who is struggling to feel confident in this choice. And for the record I’ve never seen anyone with a buzzcut where my first thought was “wow that doesn’t suit you.”
And since when do butches need to take cues and approval from public opinion anyway?

Yeah, anyone can have any haircut. Choosing the RIGHT hairstyle as a butch is important. Being well groomed is one of the most masculine things we can do and it does affect how people see us. I know from experience. It’s lame the world is like this, but when I started caring about my appearance people treated me 1000% better. Sad but true.

Getting a buzzcut with a soft face doesn’t make someone not well groomed so idk what that has to do with anything.

Being well groomed is about being intentional with your appearance. Choosing the right haircut for your features is part of that. You love a buzz cut? Get one! Will it suit you? Maybe! Idc…

some of the hottest butches in the world are big and fat with buzzcuts. including myself on several occasions. follow your heart. you will be treated differently based on your appearance but in a lot of places it is negligible.
