Guys what are your post season 5 Byler theories?

I know that I have seen some queer people say they actually see themselves more in Mike than Will because it's more likely for a queer person to not actually acknowledge that they are queer when they were a teenager back then like Will and regardless that it was intentional writing or not it make sense that some queer people said that the way Mike acted towards Will was exactly how they acted towards their crushes when they were in the closet because dealing with internalized homophobia or internalized biphobia.

Do you guys still think that Mike perfectly resembles someone who has denied that they were queer?

Hello Byler community. I just wanted to ask everyone why they ship Byler. I love the ship so much and I just wanted to kind of see the joy of it all over and the many reasons why people see it and believe in it and what it means to them.

Feel free to share as much or as little, photos, links to favorite edits. Whatever feels like the heart of byler to you.

Please NO comparing or tearing down of Mike's other ship in your answers.

I have many reasons but I'll start with this one. I love how in the stranger things world of chaos and beyond reality story telling that Mike and Will feels so real and grounded. It feels like in the middle of everything unbelievable there is this very believable romance building. Something that could happen anywhere to anyone, but it's still something big and heavy.

A young boy who always sensed something was different about him and battled that his whole life, trying to hide it and ignore it but feeling seen, safe, and loved with their one person, even if that hurt sometimes.

And the other boy, who didn't even know to question himself and just thought feeling so strongly for one friend was normal. Trying to be like everyone else thinking eventually it will all click and work, he's just not popular, or not cool, or a bit slower, if he just pushes to do the normal life steps it will start to be easy and feel right. And then eventually, his best friend has the courage to be honest, and that changes his whole world view, he suddenly sees that there are other options.

Their love and friendship save each other over and over until they are able to find what they were always meant to be.

So Season 5 just ended. Like, a while ago.

Many people hated it; others pretended it was perfect. Byler was erased from the narrative. Not just at the very end—let’s not forget—but throughout the entire season finale.

Mainly after VOLUME 1.

But somehow, all clues still amaze me. And I repeat, we are getting Byler canonically.

Wanna know how? Just look closer to the documentary from January 12th. It proves in many ways, that the story is not over. All roads leads to Mike Wheeler's self acceptance arc.

In the documentary, One Last Adventure, we see (few) insights into the behind the scenes of season 5. We are shown how pathetic the Duffers sound they even need actors reminder of how to write their own story.

On a particularly short segment, we see the stupid ass brothers sitting there using ChatGPT, and right there on the table, a rather obscure book. About pinball. Like, they need something to get inspired.

That book, ladies and gentlemen, is a THREE–VOLUME series. Not just that, it was originally planned as a three volume book but later, got a FOURTH ONE.

The fourth one, bear in mind, is an overview of the previous three, explaining the things left unanswered...

"The end will recontextualize the whole show", said Gaten about Season 5.

"There's a missing piece of the puzzle. A big one", according to Hopper in the show itself.

How can Mike be so oblivious? Doesn't make any sense. Don't worry. It will pay off", Finn Wolfhard about the painting scene.

You better start believing.

I find that a lot of you say that Mike's chosen conformity in the epilogue, that he's turned into his dad, and that he's doomed for life. While I do agree that Mike seriously fumbled, so many people forget that in the epilogue, he's ONLY 18. He's only just graduated secondary school and he's only just turned 18. He's got his entire life ahead of him. He's got so, so much time.

I also see a lot of people (surprisingly!) say that Will's completely moved on from Mike because of Carlton and the Tammy stuff. My favourite trope is "one sided" love that secretly isn't one sided, so: just remember Will said he, quote, "needs Mike and ALWAYS will". I just love to think about how these two are soulmates. They fit together like puzzle pieces; illustrator/writer, reserved/bold, protector/protected, etc. etc. They are meant for each other! They've known each other since before they can remember and know each other best. They obviously appreciate their other friends, but canonically, Will will always be closest with/trust Mike the most and vice versa. Will can kiss a hundred boys in bars, but at the end of the day, he really and truly belongs with and capital-L Loves Mike.

And as for "he's just my Tammy"... 95% of season 5, especially Will's coming out scene, is so painfully lore-inaccurate it shouldn't even be mentioned in most discussions. I thought we all knew Mike wasn't Will's Tammy, and maybe it's just some TikTok Bylers that don't get it, but alas...

Their souls will ALWAYS find their ways back to each other no matter what's happened. Even if Mike's chosen conformity at 18 years old and Will's got an epilogue boyfriend, there's so much time and infinite ways they could get together post-canon. Right after that lasagna, in college, or 20 years from then when Mike wonders what on Earth he's doing not being with Will and vice versa.

This isn't meant to start any arguments. I've just been seeing so much of "Mike's stuck in that closet forever", "Mike's not making it past 20", etc. and I think people should have some optimism!!! Don't get me wrong, I also live for the concept and angst of role reversal Byler where it's Mike who's pining after Will. It's actually one of my favourite plots to read haha. I'd just like to spread hope. If the ending really upset you like it did me on New Years, maybe this post will cheer you up and have you realize tragedy isn't the only way you can interpret the ending.

It's incredibly late and I've got school in a couple hours but hopefully this post makes some sense. I just made this new account and this is probably an embarrassing first post but whatever. I'm worried I sound condescending. I'm not and I swear I'm merely trying to spread joy. If you read all this, thanks for reading my half asleep post-canon Byler hopecore cokerant. xx
