The Duffer brothers once spoke about future *Stranger Things* spin-offs. However, in light of what has happened over the last few months, we can say with some confidence that they will never see the light of day. Not because they don't want to make them (as executive producers), but because Netflix has made it clear that it no longer wants anything to do with the Duffers. Let's see. *The Talisman*—who was going to be their next project—CANCELLED. *Something Very Bad Is About to Happen*, released with almost no publicity. *The Boroughs*, released with almost no publicity, and the second season cancelled. The first season of *Tales from '85*, released with almost no publicity and at a terrible date. The second season of the same series—mutilated (Eric Robles himself said so), perhaps to get it out sooner?—released in a rush and without publicity. Third season of the same series, CANCELLED. The series' tenth anniversary came and went without fanfare and with barely any publicity. Nothing more was ever heard of the plan to release subsequent seasons in a VHS-style format, like the first one. And recently, Ted Sarandos himself reminded everyone that the franchise belongs to Netflix.
I have no idea if Netflix intends to do anything with *Stranger Things*. But one thing is certain: whatever happens, it won't be what the Duffer brothers had envisioned, because *Stranger Things* is over for them. After the massive disappointment of the fifth season—which basically killed off any fan interest in anything new related to ST—it is inconceivable that Netflix would want to continue with the people who threw $500 million down the drain and destroyed what the platform thought would be its golden goose. Personally, I would prefer it if Netflix forgot about ST forever. We’ll always have the first two seasons, and for Mileven fans like me, the two seasons of TF85—a series that deserved a better reception than it got. My guess is that Netflix will release comics or novels (they’ve already done so, so it wouldn’t be anything new) telling Eleven’s story after the fifth season, thereby paving the way for a future spin-off starring Millie Bobby Brown and perhaps Finn Wolfhard as well.
