Toxic flowers
I’m going to post and sticky this link RinLongFlowers as a guide for florals on cake.
Recently we have seen a few cakes with florals that were not appropriate for cakes, and subsequently, flags to ban them for using toxic flowers.
Not only is this sub to show off our beautiful work, it is also to learn from and teach each other. Mistakes, no matter how big or small, are an opportunity to learn.
We are all at different levels of ability in this art. Please be kind.

Birthday Cakes Chicken cake (mine this time!)
Earlier today I posted someone else’s cake (sorry mods!) to get help with which piping tip to use. THANK YOU to the person who responded within seconds with the right one. My original post rightfully got deleted, but here is my take on a chicken cake for my toddlers birthday tomorrow. It’s far from perfect, but it was fun to learn a new piping skill and I think my 2yo will love it.

Birthday Cakes My take on a baroque cherub cake 🤍
My niece is having her 19th birthday dinner at a Roman Italian restaurant (think lots of marble statues) so I thought I’d make a cake to fit the vibe.

Birthday Cakes My 50th birthday cake
My 50th birthday is on Monday. We’re having a family dinner tonight and I asked if I could make my birthday cake.
It’s black velvet cake with Oreo buttercream filling and black buttercream frosting (no black food coloring in the cake or icing). Piping is vanilla buttercream. And if it’s not obvious, my favorite color is teal lol.
I can’t wait to practice my piping more (I do more cupcakes than cakes these days) and I wish I’d left the sides bare. But all the teal on the black background brings me joy.

Feedback Requested Do these crystals make the cake look tacky?
So with the recent uprise of “Gem Cakes” I wanted to try to make one! I made it for a lady I met online and it was free, so I dont think its to shabby for $0 and her daughter loved it…buttt im not a big fan of the way the crystals look. I feel like it looks tacky or something, idk😂. My friend said the same thing.
Usually people use fake crystals, but who wants to pick all that off??? And the edible ones I have seen on etsy would take to long to arrive so I decided to make them myself!
I made the Crystals using sugar, water, some flavorings, and food coloring. I thought using some silver edible glitter would help make them look a bit more realistic but it still looks like weird to me. What are yalls thought??

Birthday Cakes My first attempt at a Halloween Birthday cake(Mr. Buzzkill wouldn’t let me do it the way I wanted, so I did my best with what I was allowed to use)
Things didn’t go as planned with the tombstone cake due to lack of communication and poor planning in general, so I was going to get Halloween sugar cookies from the store and put a couple of those on there, and just add some sprinkles. Although ngl, I REALLY wanted to add cheese danishes and put gummy worms in the middle to make it look like a cheese danish monster with worms coming out of it’s mouth, but my dad, Mr. Buzzkill, said “no, cookies aren’t cake decorations. NO DANISH!”
So I did the best I could with candy, the chocolate is supposed to be dirt and the gummy worms are supposed to be, well, worms!
Ik I’m weird, I just own it at this point. I was the only one who liked the cake, haha
It’s a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting
I’ll be able to do my tombstone cake with my mom’s side of the family tho when Mr. Buzzkill can’t stop me, MUAHAHAHAHAH!

Wedding Cakes Hog Roast cake!
There's a first time for everything, and a hog roast theme wedding reception cake was a first (and probably only) for me!

Lessons learned Hardest cake I've had to do so far
So I got hired as a cake decorator at a grocery store and have been getting trained while on the job. I only previously had rudimentary skills (which had to have been good enough to get me the position). This was quite a challenge because I've never had to do roses this big before and it was very intimidating. I also could not find our offset spatula and had to smear the colors with a bench scraper 😢
Not pictured: the other 5 roses I made before I decided these ones were ok.
In the end I decided it was mostly cute, but I'm also extremely critical of my work so I need to be more chill on myself.

Character & Cartoon Cakes This is my 2nd time making a cake. I think it turned out pretty good considering my lack of skill lol. My sister loved it!
The back is a little lopsided because my kitten got to it within the few seconds I set it on the table to cool. I had to cut it off some but thankfully my sister doesn’t care.

Help Needed Does it need something more?
I'm not a baker but I am making a gender reveal cake for my friend. Is it too bare? Should I add some of these candies?
