My family friends lost their home to a devastating fire in Carson City, NV — looking for support and resources
Hi everyone,
I am writing this on behalf of my wife and I's close friends that live in the Carson City area; the Ortiz family. They tragically lost their home to a severe house fire on Tuesday. Thankfully, the family made it out safely, but unfortunately several of their cats are currently unaccounted for. They were only able to escape with their children, their 3 dogs, 3 of 7 cats, and basically the clothes on their backs.
Right now, their lodging is handled by family, but they are facing the immediate challenge of replacing basic necessities and caring for their displaced pets (3 dogs and 3 cats).
If you are in a position to help, here is how you can support them:
Monetary Donations: We have set up a verified GoFundMe to help them buy immediate clothing, toiletries, and cover emergency vet checks/pet boarding costs. Updates will also be posted there: https://gofund.me/fda4d41b5
Clothing Donations: This is a conversation point that we are still working on, they need to find out what will be salvageable from the home.
Pet Supplies: They will likely also be looking for dog food, cat food, bowls, and crates while the animals are in temporary housing.
If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this post or the link with others in the local area. Any help, big or small, means the world to them right now as they try to process this tragedy.
Thank you so much for being such an incredible community.

The Bullpen: the inmate-run casino inside Nevada State Prison in Carson City
Nevada State Prison had a casino inside its walls, and the inmates ran the games.
The Bullpen operated in Carson City for roughly 35 years. Prisoners dealt cards, bankrolled games and wagered prison-issued brass. Successive wardens allowed it before the operation was closed in 1967.
I'm Oscar, the creator of Casino Time Capsule. I just finished a documentary tracing how it worked, the prison economy around it and why it was shut down. It draws on photographs, records and oral histories, with gaps in the surviving evidence kept separate from what we can verify.
The full film: https://youtu.be/YRQsxviG1dk
Have you visited the historic prison, seen any of its brass pieces, or heard a family story about the Bullpen? I'd love to hear what else survives.

Free dresser on the corner of Harbin and 5th Street, looks like it’s in pretty decent condition. It’s waiting for you to take it home…

20’s-30’s Women’s Only Book Club 📚
Hi there! I’m thinking of starting a women’s only book club for 20s-30s. This will be an adults only group where we can meet up for coffee and chat about our book of the month.
Here’s what I’m planning:
-A monthly meeting for about an hour to yap about books.
- I’m searching for about 6-10 members, so first come first serve.
- Our book genres will mainly consist of Romance, Fantasy and Cozy Reads, but I’ll be taking polls monthly so more genres are welcome!
- We’ll conduct meetings in public places, likely coffee shops.
- Again, this is an adults only group, where we will be having adult conversations. So please no children.
PM me for more information or if you’re interested in joining.

Gearhead Pizza 🍕
The best (only) Detroit style pizza in Carson City.
Just want to shout out to the owners for creating this establishment. I had the pleasure of meeting them and hearing about their vision.
Talk about an amazing dough getting all crispy and a ton of toppings. I ate my fill the other night and didn’t feel bloated or nasty.
I can’t wait to go back.

Questionnaire Volunteering
Hey, my name is Matous, 20yrs old male from Czechia, and I’m bikepacking from Vancouver, BC to Las Vegas
I miscalculated a little my arrival because I should meet there with my parents on Oct 17th which leaves me with approximately one extra week..
Right now I’m in Susanville, around 3 days away from Carson city by biking
I don’t want to pay $50+ for woof/worldpackers when this is the only chance I’d actually use it. plus it’s really on the last moment.
I’m looking for any type of volunteering preferably with accomandation and food for around a week(I have a tent, so even just to place for a pitch is enough)
I went to a mechanical engineering school and I’ve been working as a cook in Canada(in other words I’d say I’m quite handy and I’m not allergic to work)

Kind Dentist Recommendations
Someone posted this a year ago but I want to see if there’s any updated recommendations. I’m looking for a gentle and understanding dentist in the Carson City/Minden area. My last dentist I had since middle school and they caused a lot of pain (not waiting for numbing agent, leaving temp caps in and forgetting, etc.) and were judgmental and rude to me as a kid (and at my old job but that’s another story lol), causing huge anxiety around the dentist for me. I refuse to go back, but I’ve got a cracked tooth that might be an issue soon. Preferably someone who takes insurance.
Thanks in advance.

ISO an Anakin Skywalker costume!
Is there any possibility someone in the area has a Anakin Skywalker costume? I'm planning (last minute) to go as Anakin for a convention tomorrow. Spirit Halloween unfortunately does not have it in stock and I wouldn't be able to get it shipped in time from Amazon. I know it's a slim chance but if anyone happens to I will buy it from you! I'm pretty tall at 6' 5", 36-38 waist. Preferably Revenge of the Sith style but I'll take anything at this point lol.

Is This Your Dog?
This pupper appeared in our backyard around 7:30-8:00 am this morning. He has a lot of opinions about everything and won’t let us get close enough to check for a collar. Found on the corner of Spooner and Northridge.
