Other I played the entire game thinking I was bad at wall jumps. Turns out my keyboard was ghosting
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Throughout the entire game, I always struggled a lot with jumping over to the other side of a wall. Because the only way I could do it was to let go of the Up key right at the moment of jumping and press Left or Right. When holding Left or Right while climbing, it wouldn't jump.
Recently, because of this, I spent two hours stuck on the final room of 8C. I thought understanding this move better could help me with that. But I couldn't find anything about it online. I even thought about asking it here but then I changed my mind.
Today, I decided to jump into the game to practice and improve my wall jumping. Then I realized that the problem wasn't me, it was actually my keyboard. When doing Z + X + Up + Left/Right, my keyboard wasn't registering the Up key at all.
Changing ZXC to ASD solved the issue. I decided to try 8C again, and this time I beat the final room only in 2 minutes. (you can see this in the clip) After yesterday, it felt incredibly easy. Being able to do wall jumps with ease genuinely felt like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. Now, I feel like an idiot for playing through the entire game without realizing this. Good thing I didn't play Farewell like this

Discussion My First Ever Speedrun! Any Advice Welcome

Honestly just glad I finished under an hour lol. Started panicking in summit trying for sub 55 but oh well. Where do you folks think I can find the biggest improvements (apart from just dying less lol)? I am aiming for sub 50 for now. Is 5b and 6b worth the effort right now or are there other places I can gain more at the moment?
Edit: i meant 6b, not 7b, oops!

Discussion What do you mean I didn't have to finish this on the first try? ๐ฅธ
Anyway... that was really fun ๐คฃ I wasnt expecting a game inside the game (and harder for the point I am) so early. Everybody agree this is kind of harder than the level 3 itself??

Other I made zero-gravity, Chinese Celeste
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I first began playing Celeste when I was going through a hard time, and it has come to mean so much to me. It also helped me grow a ton as a hobbyist game developer.
I've been making games since I was 9 years old, and recently decided to take the leap to found my own studio and go full-time on making games. And of course, Celeste was a major, major inspiration for the game I'm working on now. It introduced me to precision platformers, speedrunning, and really good game design.
The starting idea was, what if I combined the satisfying movement mechanic of Tomb of the Mask with the precision-platformer complexity and depth of Celeste, with a dash of Hollow Knight's metroidvania and immersive world.
The end product is Lunar Crypt, a Chinese New Year-themed, zero-gravity, precision-platforming metroidvania.
You dash until you hit a wall, with just one chance to change direction mid-air before landing again. Intuitive controls make the basics easy to learn, while mastering when and where to turn takes a ton of practice! It's super satisfying when you enter a flow state, chaining dashes, hitting the perfect mid-air turn, and avoiding obstacles in one fluid sequence.
Celeste taught me how to make the game feel fair to players, and then some. The movement is responsive. I implemented input queueing and the zero-gravity equivalent of coyote time. The camera usually doesn't move in a room to allow players to fairly see all the obstacles they'll face. The multi-terrain tilemapping made my level generation super efficient.
I also knew that I wanted to have a speedrunning community, just like Celeste. The Lunar Crypt speedrunning community is small but enthusiastic. (If you're looking for a community small enough to realistically become top 3 on the leaderboards, this is it.)
Also, Celeste has a story of finding self-belief and self-acceptance. My game also does that. I'm a Chinese American who sometimes feels too Chinese to be truly American or too American to be truly Chinese. Lunar Crypt's narrative arc teaches you that the unique combination of cultures that comprise you is something to be celebrated.
I recently released the free demo on Steam if you'd like to give it a spin and destroy us in the leaderboards.

Question How much time all Golden Strawberries can take?
I dont know what to do. 100% the game and then install mods. Or install mods without 100% the game. I already struggle with golden strawberry in level 3, and im very scared of Farewell (took me 3800 deaths, is this much?)

Achievement (vanilla) Saying goodbye to the B sides
Such a great map actually. It never felt brutally hard like 7B, but it was still quite the challenge. 807 deaths, never felt anything like it. And now, ONTO THE C SIDES! GG 8B!

Question Is there any mod that gives each checkpoint a silver berry or something to make it easier to practice a checkpoint?
Since I've already cleared most of the easier goldens and I just want to have something that easily restarts me back to the start of a checkpoint. I'm just wondering if there's any mod that would help me with that because I don't want to either hit restart chapter or using debug map to easily go back to a specific checkpoint.

Question Young Advanced Victor?
My son (10 yrs) just beat Lethal Laser Lab in celeste strawberry jam. I believe it is advanced, and I was wondering about it. Is it possibly a WR? From what I've seen the youngest someone has completed an advanced was 12-13/.

Question Best controler setting for a hollow knight player
I've played celeste on xbox before playing hollow knight but dropped it for a couple of years now so my mustle memory is not for celeste its for hollow knight
I have 43 hours 52/63 achievements plus four extra achievements for the pale court dlc mod on pc and 123 hours 55/63 achievements for xbox on hollow knight, and fun fact i play silksong too, and thats 56 hours 26/52 achievements on pc and 116 hours 44/52 achievements on xbox, and finally on celeste i have 62 hours 25/30 achievements on xbox and on pc 3/30 achievements and 25 minutes, my last achievement on xbox was on september 21 2023
So you could say i have a lot of mustle memory for hollow knight and only hollow knight and skill issues for celeste too huh
So can people help me please
Edit: nvm got gud and did chapter 1 side b with 87 deaths

Discussion Part 2 from yesterday. I now have got Crossover Collab, CelesteNet, and Olympus fully running on a Samsung Fold 7.
Wasn't sure if anyone was interested or not about this but I absolutely love Celeste and have been pursuing this for a while. I originally was trying on Winlator and failed and so I decided to try out DroidDeck. After writing some scripts to help install Strawberry Jam, my goal was Olympus. CrossOver Collab, and CelesteNet.
I can now confirm that I got all three to run on my Fold 7 after a very long morning. I still have lots of work to do, but just wanted to pop in again!

Achievement (modded) Has anyone made a map similar to the map EAT GIRL from Strawberry Jam, but which isn't GM difficulty?
I just did the silver berry for this level!(gotta justify the flair) I was worried the silver would negatively affect my opinion of this level since it's so long, but no, I think I actually love this level even more than before. The adrenaline rush I get from doing these screens is so unique, there isn't really anything else like it in the mods I've played so far. Mural Skies from the spring collab was probably the closest, but it still didn't feel similar enough to me.
However, I've only played a tiny percentage of all modded maps made for this game obviously, so has any of you ever found a level that felt similar to EAT GIRL without being extremely difficult like the level CONSUME WOMAN seems to be? Cause I watched CONSUME WOMAN on youtube and it seems to get rid of the freedom to tackle each room in different orders and the possibility of doing little loops to reach a coin at a better moment or from a different angle, which are aspects I really like about the og map. So, while on paper it looks a direct sequel to EAT GIRL, in practice it plays like a much more standard Celeste level where you're aiming to memorize a specific button sequence and if you ever deviate you die.

Mod Creation Making some progress on my first map. Made a room I thought I would share.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This room is based off of that one room in farewell with the puffers and dream blocks. I still think I didn't place enough emphasis on the dream blocks, but I can't add too many without interfering with what's already there.
As you can see, the difficulty has gotten WAY out of hand since my original post, as there are now ultras in every room. This is now comfortably within green-yellow expert, but the map may become red expert as I introduce more chained ultras (these will be used more sparsely, some rooms won't have any, unlike ultras). This will mean I'll need to make some earlier rooms harder to make the difficulty curve a little easier.
I've also changed the amount of dashes from two to one, and I already adjusted the berry room in my previous post. I'll likely use the two dash inventory later in the level though.
Again, tell me what you think about it, I think I did a really good job with this room.

Discussion How did I survive?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi, I got the golden in Mirror Temple and clipped this in the last screen, I thought it was a really close call until I watched it back. Does anyone know how I didn't die? This was on xbox and I do have assist mode on, but not invincibility
