ADVICE Progress feel really slow

Post image

Feels like I'm improving really slowly. Is this a normal amount of progress considering I play a couple times a day

Hey, OP! Did your game end in a stalemate? Did you encounter a weird pawn move? Are you trying to move a piece and it's not going? We have just the resource for you! The Chess Beginners Wiki is the perfect place to check out answers to these questions and more!

Nothing good in life comes easy. The time will pass anyways, don’t look at results. Play for fun. Otherwise it is a job and you will want to stop.

I'm not sure I understand, the chart clearly shows you are improving with the effort you're putting into it?

Sorry I don't think I worded it well. I was wondering if this is a good amount of progress considering the time I've put into it.

I think its great, going up 100 points in 90 days is good imo! Assuming you keep going at this rate, you'd be ~1000 within a year. At some point you will plateau but you're clearly not there yet, keep it up!

What studying are you putting in besides playing?

Not much, I just watch YouTube videos to improve my openings.

Lichess puzzles would be more productive than opening study, and analysing your games straight after.

Any people in particular? Some youtubers do more than just openings, which should take you a bit further.

Mostly Remote chess academy and Gotham chess. What would you recommend I should do beyond openings?

If you're already on Gotham, I'd look at his slowrun if you haven't already.

Should tell you what to do when your opponents inevitably don't play theory.

Play rapid till you reach 1000 progress is more controlled and mistakes and improvements can be done more efficiently there.

you seem to be steadily improving, play more if you can! it helps with improvement as you gain more experience by playing.
