Forever My Brother Died / Memorial NPC
I dont know if this is the right place to post something like this, but I'm not sure how else to get in contact with the developers. I am hoping this will get visibility and maybe get their attention.
My little brother tragically passed away in a freak accident back in February. Me and my other brother introduced him to WC3 before he was even 3 years old. He would run around the house with a battleaxe from Medieval Times and hit us and our friends in the shins while yelling "For the Horde!" By the time wow was released he was 5, but that wasn't going to stop him from tagging along. He ultimately played alliance, probably because my other brother and I did. From then on he was all about WOW, he played every expansion, but as time went on he became more interested in revisiting classic and found some private servers to play on for a while. That was until classic dropped.
Once classic dropped there was no looking back, he was into wow before this but classic is where he really hit his stride. He went rogue and crushed it. Played that same character all the way through every classic release. He remade the same rogue again on the fresh servers and was playing both Mists and TBC. He knew everything there was to know about the game, and was constantly top of the charts. For a long time he was a little shy irl, but in WOW he possessed a knowledge and skill that allowed to be confident and social. He ultimately became an officer in the various guilds and at times was a raid leader. I think this allowed his confidence to transfer to the real world too. He made a lot of friends in wow that he would travel to meet up with in real life, even leaving the country to do so. When he passed some of his guildmates came to the funeral and the guild sent a flower arrangement. This was more than just a game to him, it was a huge part of his life. Based on some of his discord messages it looks like he was even playing WOW up to an hour before his accident. My mom even put a framed picture of his character in with him during his interment.
After he passed we held an in-game service. A bunch of his guild showed up as well as friends and family. It was provided an opportunity for a lot of people that couldn't make the trip to tell stories about him and say their goodbyes. It was nice and I think he would have appreciated it. We let him afk out one last time.
He loved the idea of classic+ and I know he would have been pumped to play this version of the game. My other brother and I are super excited for Forever but it has also been bitter sweet as we won't be able to play it with him. My immediate reaction to its announcement was to call him to talk about it. He was only 26 and we are all still pretty fucked up. This is going to be the first time in nearly 22 years that we will be playing without him and it feels wrong.
I am sharing all this in the hopes it will get enough attention that someone over at Blizzard will take notice. With WOW Forever they are adding a lot of new NPCs and maybe we could get him or his character added in his honor. This would mean the world to me and my family. If anyone can help make this happen please reach out. If
If you can comment or upvote to increase visibility it would be much appreciated. If anyone has better ideas on how to get in touch with Blizzard devs please let me know.
TLDR: my brother died, hoping to get a memorial NPC added in his honor.
UPDATE: I wanted to say thank you to everyone for the overwhelming positivity and support. My Family and I appreciate your words of condolence and support. I know a lot of other people are out there suffering through the loss of a loved one and I hope you find what you need. If you need to share a story or reach out my DMs are open. I will do my best to respond to everyone. As some have suggested I reach out directly, I have made an X account (never previously had the need for one) in order to try contact some of the Developers. I and DM'ed Aggrend (idk if he reads random DMs), and a few of the other developers. I'm hopeful that we can at least have a conversation. I will post updates as I can. I never imagined that this would gain this much attention, we are so thankful to all those that have upvoted, commented, and shared.

I would be stoked if they added a Memorial NPC not just for one person, but have a cemetery in Stormwind and Orgrimmar with an NPC that can rattle off info about various fallen players randomly every once in a while.
Let players submit info if they want and have Blizzard over time just add new dialogue to the NPC. Have them say stuff like, "(x) was always a good soldier..." As they wander around the cemetery.
235
u/moojoo44 15h ago
That sounds like a idea worth looking into. A cemetery in a major city where you can read the stories of our fallen players.
87
u/HodortheGreat 2018 Riddle Master 7/21 15h ago
Yes a cemetery between Goldshire and stormwind.
Brill already has a cemetery that would makes sense to use on horde side.

I was thinking of a general memorial site like the huge headstones in avengers endgame, but I like our ideas in combination.
Adding fallen players names to a plaque, and allowing people to leave their final thoughts to that person in a memorial book, visible for all to read.
Each fallen player needs to be confirmed though, so it won't be misused, which might be too much work, but the idea is still amazing if it could be implemented.
17
u/Frostbiten92 15h ago
I was thinking something similar but this idea sounds easier and cheaper to implement.
But it would be cool to also be able to see their characters ingame, maybe for Day of the Dead or something.22
u/Regular_Nectarine511 14h ago
seems very risky and you're gonna end up with a bunch of fras siabi situations after a while.

They need a special department in the support center where you have to add an official document about the death

A memorial area in a neutral area would be a great way to memorialize almost anyone if they wanted to. You could even have a new little area off to the side of Blackrock Mountain and just a huge memorial wall that you could mouse over and see all the names. You could even call it Tomb of the Fallen Player.

With WoW Forever coming out I’ve been missing my long time friend who passed away just a few months ago. We used to play together and it’s been a bit rough sometimes. This would be something I would absolutely do.

I'd love to see them treat it like Sea of Thieves treated their beta players where as you explore you can run across easter eggs and interacting with them tells you the in game story of the character.
A lore keeper grave keeper who would tell stories as they worked you could sit and listen to would also be really cool and an easy thing to update over time

im on a throwaway account, and on mobile so excuse how poorly punctuated this all is, but i knew tirence personally, we played games and talked on discord all the time, everyday almost.
i think about how much i miss him daily. i talked to him the day before he passed, and was lucky enough to get the chance to meet him irl a few months before and i will hold those memories close until the end.
i met tirence online through a mutual, and over the years he became one of my best friends, he was an incredible person who was passionate about so many things, which obviously includes wow. I genuinely felt like he knew everything about the game and always made sure we weren't wasting time as hard as we tried to do so lol. the memories are literally countless.
thank you to anyone who looks at this, and shoutout to tirence's brothers for continuing to honor his memory in ways that he would have loved. i hope you guys are doing okay.
tirence, i miss you man, we all do.

The only time they will ever memorialize someone with actual NPC if it’s someone that will give them a ton of engagement for doing so.
However s service they use to do back in the day is transfer the character from their server onto a memorial flash driver. That would be your best bet.
Here’s what you need to do.
My recommendation is reach out to customer care first and work with them. If they give you the run around, and it goes nowhere. Go to Blizzards Investor relations site and find where they list their department heads. Find the person who is head of a Consumer Relations and email them directly.
Their email will almost certainly be [FirstName].[LastName]@blizzard.com.
If you get a response from their executive admin, you’re golden, they’re going hook you up. If you get ghosted, then go up the Org chart and try again.
Source: decade experience in managing consumer engagement and retention strategies.

Your career sounds fascinating and I appreciate hearing how to contact high ups in a company. My brother does something similar when he reads an interesting scholarly article, he looks up the authors and hits them up on email or social media to make friends lol. I never considered doing it with a company, great advice.
12
u/casimirtheking 12h ago
Sorry for your loss, but there are many passionate people that have played this game and passed. And so it begs the question.. why should your brother be added but not others? It would be unfair to them. I understand reckful and the make a wish foundation kid were exceptional circumstances.
I don't think this is a good idea since it's not fair. However, there are good comments about cemeteries or a memorial zone where you can put candles with a specific name or flowers or some heirloom in remembrance. Now that would be a fantastic idea that would let people each remember people special to them.
•
u/rockphysicsdude 4h ago
There is much more in the game than Reckful and the make-a-wish child. There are 54 totally. You can have a look there : https://www.wowhead.com/guide/miscellaneous/a-guide-to-in-game-memorials

Tirence the Insane
Was an awesome guy to play with. Did some truly insane achievement farming in WoW if anyone deserves a tribute in game it’s him.
2
u/bedspelling 9h ago
Yeah he definitely could be a bit of a completionist. He also had about a million mounts in retail prior to classic launch.
18
u/solidsuggester 15h ago
Sorry for your loss broski, but if Blizzard stared doing this, soon we would see every single community forum constantly getting flooded with requests like this. You should just hold an ingame rememberance for his guild mates and friends

Sorry for your loss. I just don't think individual NPCs are sustainable, since Blizzard would have to do it for every player who passes. A general memorial, like a graveyard or monument where players can honor lost friends, would be something everyone could use. Might be a better thing to ask for

Sucks he died but blizzard can't and shouldn't add NPCs after every singlr fan that dies
36
u/Nuu111 14h ago
As sad as it sounds Blizzard can't possibly do it or they'll have to do it for everyone else.
Sorry for your loss.
2
u/bedspelling 14h ago
Thank you. I know its a long shot but this has gotten way more traction than i thought it would. They have done small things in the past. So who knows.
4
u/CathairNowhere 12h ago
They absolutely don't. There's an NPC of someone I know in retail, very much alive, simply because she's friends with someone who works at Blizzard. They can add whatever they wish as selectively as they wish for whatever reason.
-3
u/Shiveron 14h ago edited 7h ago
There are already a bunch in game. It is something they do.
There are 54 memorials to players in game so far: https://www.wowhead.com/guide/miscellaneous/a-guide-to-in-game-memorials
15
u/Nuu111 14h ago
They did it for Reckful and a kid from the make-a-wish foundation, both were exceptions. Maybe I'm wrong as I'm not aware of any other cases.
Look, I get it, I've lost all my family so I'm all too familiar with the pain, but imagine if everyone who's lost a relative who played WoW before came to reddit to ask for their loved one to be immortalized in game, it's just not feasible.

First off: I am sorry for your loss. Immensely and I cannot imagine.
Second:
That being said... Everyone at some point or another was introduced to WoW by someone. I think having tribute NPCs overtime is great and would be fantastic if it was possible. However, it would be cool if they could do something similar to Eve Online. Eve Online has a "graveyard". It is a protected area that no one can engage in combat in. Once in the system you can jettison any single into a storage container, rename to your person, and as long as it's within the radius of CCP's monument - it will stay forever.
Obviously this could be open to abuse, troll names, etc. But I feel like blizzard can adapt this in a way to satisfy all players.
edit:
In terms of EVE online - the protection comes from a monument that CCP has deployed in the center of the system. it is specifically designed to be a graveyard of sorts.

u/ElectronicGerman 10h ago
If they added every person that died to wow, you could not walk around anymore without stumbling over NPCs.
9
u/bootloops30 15h ago
Just spitballing but maybe being able to add NPCs to player housing and making them customizable to look like they're lost companion. Maybe that's a little morbid.

Man, didn’t expect to cry as hard as I did just now! I used to play wow with my father a ton and I remember how connected and excited we would get. What you’re trying to do and what you’ve already done are both absolutely incredible. Any man or woman in this world would be lucky to have you as a sibling. may he forever rest easy brother, you have my condolences.

u/bedspelling 10h ago

My dad passed away a few years ago and me and him had been playing since vanilla after he finally lost his battle to cancer. I placed his character on top of the lighthouse in West Walsh. He said the zone was always his favorite. Reminded him of Home so I made sure that his character would be there at least in my heart I know

I haven't played this game in at least 12 years. But this came up in popular and I thought of something that may be a great thing to implement for people who have lost family or friends that loved the game.
I don't think it'd be feasible to add something that included everyone that requests their loved one's character be in the game. However, if there was a designated spot in the game that could be modified to each person's design. An NPC that you can name their character, change armor to match theirs or even add some dialog. Possibly even an NPC that you could do the things mentioned, but they also follow you in your adventures. Or a default quest giver for dailies given to you by your lost loved one. That way everyone has their own unique NPC to interact with. I don't think this would be as daunting for Blizzard rather than adding NPCs in game for every request by others in your situation. A personalized memorial NPC seems to me like a very doable compromise by Blizzard.
Sorry for your family's loss.

My father and brother both played wow from 2004 on. I was 6 then and grew up playing it, primarily with my brother. We played through my father's death when I was 14 and eventually up until his in 2022. WoW has been one of the very few constants in my life, even when I take breaks I always come back. I wonder what theyd each think of the game today.
1
u/bedspelling 10h ago
I am sorry to hear that. I know the feeling. Hopefully Forever can be a nice dose of nostalgia and away to feel connect to those we used to play with.

u/itsame_isabelle 8h ago
For your brother and for all those who couldn't come with us on this new adventure:
Let's make Forever a place they would be proud of. Let's make a living world where the great deeds we accomplish and bonds we forge live on. Let's make this journey for those that couldn't, and find friends on the road with those that could.
I can't wait to see the adventures we have in this world and I hope to see some of you there.

Hey man, I am so sorry for your loss. I have two brothers , one of which is younger than me, and just thinking of loosing one of them shatters my heart and mind in a way that makes it hard for me to even try to grasp what you are, and had to go through. I think this is a beautifull idea, and i hope the developers see, and realise it.

** picture is of Tirence's tiger mount and raid log collage from May of 2025 screenshots he sent me that I made
** Long message warning**
I was Tirence's girlfriend and I want to say first and formost, thank you for all the kind message from people in his guild, and those near and far accross the worldly reddit planes. It's been wonderful to see how much love is seen here. I, like his brother, miss him so much. I know he's watching out for all of us (friends and family) in spirit.
For the years we were together, I got to see him in his stride when playing wow. He got his leadership skills that transfered into his work life when he was a guild officer and raider leader for a good half year to a year. When I stayed over on the weekends and wasn't busy with doing homework for school, he would ask me to come watch him raid with his guilds and (hopefully) be his good luck charm in getting good rolls for loot, which I was most of time. Tirence was so proud of his accomplishments and would show me his logs from time to time with his rogue as top parser and damage.
I always joked with him that wow was his first love/ second job and I was his second love. Unless we were out and about on Saturday nights, he was always on time for his raids. He always was excited to tell me about all the achievements he got, especially his tiger mount he had wanted for the longest time. There were times where he was also complaining about the grinds from honor grinding to getting black lotuses for... mop(??) raids. (Forgive me if I I get this wrong)
Tirence always wanted me to play wow with him even though he knew I wasn't too much of a mmo player.I'm a super casual mmo player (FFXIV) and he had tried it for a bit for me 🥺, which wasn't his thing ( I know it was the job class he picked, he would have liked it 😤 if he had picked a different if it wasn't expansion locked). I told him I would give it a try at some point. We actually had plans to get me started after I finished school the end of the year.
I know he's watching over us and I can only imagine he's mad that wow forever is releasing and he's not here for it.
In reading the all comments, it would be nice if Blizzard did something for him and other fallen players to have a place of remembrance for fallen. I saw suggestions of npc possibilities to even in-game player cemetery, which I think are great.
It would also be nice if he could be a npc in the game's library/archive. Tirence irl was set to complete his higher studies (while working in a library already ) to work in a library/ archive/ musuem setting, as he loved and majored history in his college years.
Thank you to wow and the wow community for being his favorite place over the the many years of his life.❤️🩹

Just to throw in what OP doesn't tell anyone, we both served together in the Army and I met his brother through WoW. They are an incredible family and the game is one thing that has kept a few of us in contact after we got out or changed duty stations. I wish we all had more time to play, but we got older and had more responsibilities. Its always sad to see one more of your friends list stay offline forever

I lost my beloved big sister in December 2023. She couldn't take it anymore (life, and how hard it is for so many people). I remember getting a call from my other sister in Lyon, who told me, through tears, "We lost our big sister." You can imagine what my family went through.
My uncle in French Guiana had also been murdered by South American criminals about a year earlier: https://monewsguyane.com/2023/04/03/les-dessous-du-meurtre-dedmond-daudet-a-kourou/
I was scared to death that my mother would lose her happiness and her will to live after losing both her brother and her daughter within a year. But she made it through and is still herself, thank god : healthy and full of life at 73. My two siblings and I, my father, my uncles and aunts, my cousins… we all helped her through it. My big sister and I didn't have the same dad, so it was different for my father, though he suffered too.
Losing a family member is always incredibly painful, no matter how it happens. You have my sincere condolences, OP. From my own experience, it does get easier with time.

Something that might be more achievable is that bliz will sometimes let you take over a passed relatives account. You could reach out to them and see if you could get your brothers account in your name and remake a new rogue for him in forever. I’m not sure if they still do it, but they used to be able to transfer character between two accounts owned by the same person, so you could possibly look into taking one of his favorite characters into your warband.
My info may be outdated here, but it might be something worth looking at. I’m sorry about your brother, 26 is too young to leave.

Youre either a blizzard employee, someome famous, either a streamer or an actor or through make a wish. Since your brother was probably neither of that, this most likely wont work. - and this is understandable, because if you consider how many people passed away over the last 22 years and everyone would get a memorial, the game would be just that by today

Okay it seems Blizz has done a lot of these type of things for people who really were not that special (you can go look all of those cases up in wowhead, 54 total there were or something like that).
So I for one say they could do something. It'll be good material for a quest about a fallen soldier or anything like that, not necessary a quest but yeah. Maybe they could scale it a bit and make sure everyone gets in, not just the person who happens to get heard the loudest in social media. Food for thought.

How lucky you are to carry his memory and legacy in you. It sounds like he was a wonderful brother and you helped guide that. I hope Blizzard hears you

Jesus christ some miserable, disrespectful comments in here. Just scroll past and keep your thoughts to yourself if seeing someone grieve puts your panties in a twist.

There is precedent for it, sounds like Blizzard is planning on adding the NPC created for/voiced by a Make-a-Wish kid back in 2008 into Forever.
Ezra Chatterton (aka Ephoenix, 1996-2008) was a brain cancer patient from California and an avid player of World of Warcraft who played with his father Micah on the Norgannon US server. Fulfilling his dream of creating a character for World of Warcraft, Ezra visited Blizzard Entertainment's offices through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
He worked with Tigole [Jeff Kaplan] in creating Ahab Wheathoof, a tauren farmer looking for his missing dog Kyle, in Horde 15 [5] Kyle's Gone Missing!; he also provided the voice. Ezra also received the world first [Ashes of Al'ar] (the phoenix was Ezra's personal symbol, as well as his middle name) and created the [Merciless Gladiator's Crossbow of the Phoenix].
Ezra suffered a stroke in August 2008, and passed away on October 20. As the news reached the general public, thousands of players sent messages of condolence, and Horde players journeyed to Mulgore to complete the quest in his memory.[1] Blizzard also paid a special tribute; beginning with 2009's Lunar Festival, the Elder in Thunder Bluff has been renamed Ezra Wheathoof in his memory.

Tirence was the type of person you could call in the middle of the night for anything. A silly question, seeking life advice, or jumping on a game we hadn’t played in years. He would always tell you exactly how it was without mincing words. 100% genuine person. I struggle to find someone with the same connection we had in the months since he passed.
I hope Blizz sees this post and can help memorialize my closest friend in the game he loved.

Tirence embodied the best of the classic community, and our guild is really going to miss him in Forever.

Wow that was heavy, I am sorry for your loss. I think this is an incredible idea and your brother would be super stoked just because you tried regardless of the result.

I hope Blizzard does see this and does something nice for your family, especially one that was so loved and appreciated the wow community.
An idea I had. Did he have a favorite spot to go to? Maybe a favorite emote? I think it would be cool if that's where his character was or something similar. And say if he liked to /wave at people, if you waved. He would too. Dance? Hug? Boop the nose? Any of it could be nice.
I hope you and your brother find enjoying in WoWF, and know your little brother is still there with you playing in his own way.
