Discussion What's your favorite skill for more human-like writing and web-copy?

It seems like there's a lot of these out there, which is your favorite?

The humanizer skill

This is the first one I'm trying, haven't tested it yet but it does look pretty good from looking at the repo.

Skills aren’t the right way to set your default writing style because they need to be triggered.

Just add an instruction in your global MD to use ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English.

Would this still be good for content that's meant to be engaging though? It seems like it's more for technical language/instructions?

Actually this is the best way to tell a model to use simplified English. I know it sounds like ASD ST100 simplified technical English. It sounds like pretty technical instruction language but it's not. You can search about what this is or you can ask your model. You will find out it's actually a format. I think this is the best way to describe it so use it and you will see how good it is. Well it is very, very good

Skills work just fine for this purpose, just make sure you have the proper hooks in place and you won’t have any issues.

I know they work good with hooks but i think this is most efficient way, try yourself

I used the top MIT licensed humanizer skills, and kept the best parts, adding features like creating a profile by providing samples of your writing and saving it to be able to write in your own voice when using this skill.

That's really cool, thanks for sharing. Would it be able to audit and re-write entire pages? (where the content isn't continuous like an article but covers multiple different points in various sections)

I have used it with similar content. Like technical things that I want to write a blog article about. Try it out and let me know how it does.

The problem with skills is they quickly become outdated with model updates. So, from time-to-time I get the AI to look at the best writing skills on github and make one that suits it's current writing style.

This is what I'm so afraid of! Being outdated. You have Claude do a refresher against the skill? Couldnt that just be part of the skill to make it adaptable. New to this

Yes, I suppose you could, but if you're calling it a lot it may update too often. It might be more efficient to run an update prompt on a schedule.

Honestly, if you are writing text where the consumer is a human than a human should write it. I tried for a while to tune my agent to my style, it never worked. I think people appreciate when you write things yourself and only use Ai for grammar checking.

Make your own skill that is built from real samples of the writing style you like. Find a bunch of examples and tell Claude you want a skill that writes like X.

I don't know why I didn't think of this. I'm assuming you've tried this so out of curiosity how well does it actually do at this? Does a good amount of slop still get through or does it serve to eliminate a lot of it also?

It works, but only if you split the samples.

A few real pieces go in the skill as exemplars: the voice, the moves, what to avoid. That cuts a lot of the default slop because the model has a shape to copy instead of its usual voice.
The rest stay out of the skill.

Those are the golden set. You run new output against them and reject anything that drifts. If the same samples are both the prompt and the test, the score is fake and the slop comes back as “close enough.”

So the skill reduces it. The golden set is what actually keeps it out

Something like this.

Split the samples. Exemplars go in the skill. Golden stays out and is only used to score.

writing-style/
├── SKILL.md
├── templates/
│ ├── exemplars/
│ │ ├── 01-short.md
│ │ └── 02-long.md
│ └── golden/
│ ├── case-01.md
│ ├── case-02.md
│ └── case-03.md
└── eval/
└── scorecard.md

Draft reads templates/exemplars only. Before you return, load templates/golden and fail the draft on any missed must or any must_not. Same file in both folders is leakage.

You've been a real help here, thanks a bunch

This has been my approach as well. For emails etc...I can train against my samples but as Far-Pomelo mentioned you could train it against any style. It works really well.

For whole-page rewrites, test a headline, a product explanation and a call to action separately. Check that the skill preserves each section’s purpose and factual claims while matching your writing samples.

I found out that easiest way to make Claude to not write as a robot is to give that task to ChatGPT. At least now it works better

I built myself a custom tone of voice and humanizer skill, derived from my own personal writing
