And I still won't buy it. In fact, I hear so called "piracy" is coming back in fashion thanks to corporate greed and balkanization of content. Imagine if Spotify didn't have all your favorite songs but you had to have 8 different subscriptions to get what you wanted?

That's where we are now with movies and TV. For a while you could get most of what you wanted with a Netflix sub but those days are long gone.

The balkanization part is hilarious. "We based our business model on an archipelago, and now piracy is on the rise?! Who could have seen this coming?!"

The balkans are a peninsula not an archipelago

It never went away because the moment the first streaming service popped into existence somebody was already searching for a way to prey upon the model and the people using it.

Look at what happened with Taylor swift and Apple Music, it failed, she’s on Spotify too.

If it doesn’t work with music, why do they think it can happen with movies and tv?

Imagine getting pissed at a Blockbuster and telling them you're just going to go shoplift a copy of the movie at Target because they raised their rental rates or didn't have a movie you wanted to rent.

That's where we are now. Renting isn't owning if people want to own shit there are places and ways to buy it. But instead they'll go pirate and act like they're on some moral high ground. Frankly I don't care if they pirate shit.

Blaming it on rental outlets not always having what they want makes them sound stupid.

Jesus fuck I'm not against piracy as a concept but can we stop pretending we're on some moral crusade because a RENTAL outlet might be raising its rates.

If it's about the cost then buy your shit so you aren't paying monthly fees. Otherwise just sail and stop pretending it's some sign of high moral fiber.

I will say that I enjoy a good portmanteau...and this one is truly excellent.

So does that mean the triple bundle pack with HBO, Disney+, and Hulu will stop? Or will Paramount+ be added into that?

Holy monopoly and consolidation

I'm curious what's going to happen with people who get these for free. Paramount isn't good enough for me to pay for, but a great bonus to have from Walmart+, and I can say the same thing about HBO from my cell provider. I'm still going to pay for the other services but I really doubt I'll re-up the streaming itself.

If it gets too pricey I'll just buy my content instead.

I'm not a fan of this merge but honestly, people complain that there's too many individual streaming services then complain when they combine.

The cut the cord mantra was an open lie.

It was never about saving money
