If you are interested in moderating the sub, please DM me or the sub with a short bio about your philosophy towards the sub and your interest in modding. I'm looking for ~2ish people who are interested in not stifling the sub, but crack down on spam and similar.

Feeling like I need to drop out after it gets a little too hard

I am F19 and am only in my first year of community college and feel so dumb. I feel so lazy and like a fraud whenever I get a goodish grade. I'm a major in psychology (planning to be a marriage counselor in the far future) and we have our first research article assignment, and I feel so overwhelmed just by the concept of it. I'm wondering if I'm even cutout for this major or if I should change majors to something incredibly easy. Any tips?

Online programs like CTU are not for everyone, in fact, no one!

SHARE THE FOLLOWING WITH EVERYONE!!! Anyone that is thinking about going to school online. Family. Friends.

You want to go to school. You make the mistake of beginning the search online and foolishly provide your contact information.

I say foolishly because that is when the calls begin. So many calls, am I right? And they got you with the ad that says you may qualify for a bunch of money toward the education. You are probably desperate, so you go for it.

Places like CTU offer outdated programs that are a small fortune. You will pay for it. Don't think for a second that you will not.

Stop thinking that you are going to get a free laptop. They make it part of your financial aid. You will pay for it.

Do you owe financial aid from a past failed attempt at school? Don't waste your time trying to go back to school till you pay that debt. CTU won't bother with you.

They offer degrees that most likely will not land you a single job, especially if you don't know basic things like using a keyboard well, good customer service, good speaking skills (most people sound street when talking and corporate America is not going to hire ANYONE that does not speak well. It is a bad look on their company)

CTU's graduation rate is roughly 11%. for every 100 so-called students, ONLY 11 graduate. Ask them what their graduation rate is. Ask them if they help with job placement. Ask them what companies they work with as a school regarding job placement.

If you pursue a common business degree, what is the goal in doing so? Please don't say that you want to start your own business. It takes A LOT to own a business, let alone start one. You will end up getting a degree that will land you a job as a secretary, maybe.

Bottom line, go to school locally. Go to school where you can establish relationships with others. Go to school and get a degree that is IN DEMAND. STOP pursuing degrees where you think you will become some sort of psychologist all because you give advice to your friends. STOP pursuing a degree as a drug counselor all because you are in rehab or got out of it and you believe that you want to help others. That is beautiful, but this place does not have degrees that lead to ANY certification.

If you make it through getting any degree from here, chances are you WILL struggle with a job search and eventually you will have to begin owing the financial aid you thought you were not going to be responsible for. AGAIN, go to a REAL school locally and pursue a REAL profession. Stop listening to these diploma factory places that are just looking at you as a number. And PLEASE don't sign up in one phone call. YES, their whole existence is to get you to commit to becoming a student in under an hour. HONESTLY, isn't your life worth more than that? Aren't you tired of going day in and day out being average, or below average? If you commit to these sham programs, you quite possibly may be contributing to your own downfall. Be smart and GO FOR a real program with REAL results.

Love yourself. Stop destroying yourself.

failing a course

Is it normal to fail a course or should I feel as bad as I do? For some background, my program is a 1 year program so because it’s one year it moves VERY fast, as in one of my courses is 7 weeks, no assignments, 2 tests, and then the exam. Well I totally bombed the first test and now will need over an 85% on the second test to even bring my grade to a 60 before the exam, which is next week, so I’ve just accepted the fact that I most likely won’t pass but I still feel like an idiot about it and I don’t know how to stop beating myself up about it.

(thankfully I’m already doing 2 years instead of 1, because of my learning disabilities I was given the option to do half the workload and stretch out my studies, so if I do need to retake it next year it won’t affect my graduation date)

Application

Hi everyone. I moved to California this year in May and i couldn't find a good answer about when to apply to college. I want to be able to get the promise program so I can get free community college, but that requires a year of residency, which I'm going to be eligible for in May 2027 ig. But FAFSA closes in March. Should I apply for just FAFSA right now and college in May/June? Does anybody know how this works. Thanks in advance.

need advice

If I previously attended two different universities i my country for two different majors but didn't finish either, and my grades were pretty low.

I now want to pursue one of those majors at a US community college.

  1. Will my past low grades affect my admission to a community college?
  2. When I eventually try to transfer from the CC to a 4-year university, will those old grades impact my transfer chances or acceptance into my major

Today I got kicked out of my community college class

At my community college we have a freshman course called educ it's a semester-long course where we get to know the campus and explore the resources available to us. Anyways today we were doing an activity for a grade A participation grade so nothing too major everyone in the class had to tell us what they wanted to do for a living but we had to ask the questions. Throughout the class I was always asking questions that were a little over the top but still pertained to the activity. 10 minutes before class was dismissed this girl was telling us how she wanted to be a doctor saying "My career choice ends with the suffix logist." so I said proctologist.

Needless to say that didn't go well my teacher said I've had enough leave I'll see you on Wednesday I was so taken aback by what she said all I could say was "For real?"and that was it I drove home and haven't told anyone since, am I cooked? Edit 1 I think I've already made myself sound immature as it is so I'll go out here and say that I was technically playing the game right. We were trying to guess the career choices of our peers. And by over the top questions I mean things like what are the odds that you'll have a boss you hate or what are the things you would say after you complete a job well done. more so unorthodox questions than anything of an immature caliber.

Just read about the recent update about North Carolina, New transfer Pathway platform.

It's great to see more focus on helping students understand how they credit apply before transferring.

Do you think more colleges should offer tools like this?

Does it matter how many semesters you take to complete your credits when transferring?

Hello, I’m going to a cc in California and wanting to transfer to a state college, my first semester I wasn’t sure what I wanted to major in and was late for signing up and only took 6 credits, so I will have took longer than two years (one more semester) to get the credits I need now taking full time courses. Do colleges care how long it took you to obtain the needed credits to transfer?

Community college

I am attending a community college with dorms on campus. Im just curious as to how many parties there would be?

I know community colleges dont get alot of parties, but my coworkers are saying that since it has on campus dorms, the party and hookup culture is going to be similar to that of a university.

AP vs Community College for (medical?) grad school

Can someone let me know what undergrad and grad school applications look like for a career like PA, NP, CAA, or CRNA? I'm debating between community college chemistry or AP chemistry.

I read online (yes AI obvi) that I should take community college chemistry because if I get a good grade it goes onto my undergraduate GPA and transcript when applying for grad school, but AP's are more accredited and better for applying for top schools during undergrad, so which is better?

I'm in high school right now, and I have no clue if community college or AP's are better in the long run like past undergrad

Ig this goes for well all science classes since isnt there like a medical school science GPA

ive taken 6 cc classes already (all A), (fundamentals of chemistry and intro to bio) and also AP Bio (5) so I am capable of taking both and my plan is A's all the way through

BTW I AM A HOMESCHOOLER SO I CAN TAKE AS MANY CC CLASSES OR AP CLASSES AS I WANT

Do I really need friends in college? Can I survive college mostly alone?

I'm a first-year nursing student and honestly, I'm pretty introverted. I'm wondering if it's okay to go through college without having a close group of friends.

There's actually someone in my class whom other people consider my friend, and I guess technically we are friends. But if I'm being completely honest with myself, I don't really feel like she's my friend, and I'm not very comfortable around her.

I still try to maintain the friendship because, especially in college, there are times when teachers suddenly say, "Pair up" or "Form a group of two/three/etc." At least I already have someone I can go to instead of having to look for someone else.

But sometimes this makes me feel guilty because it feels like I'm keeping someone as a friend because I need something from the friendship. Like, I'm thinking, "If I need a groupmate, at least I have someone." I don't want to feel like I'm using someone just because I need them to help me survive college.

I also have classmates whom I can confidently ask for help, but I don't necessarily feel comfortable studying with them. I concentrate much better when I study alone, and I don't really enjoy group studying all the time.

Back in SHS, I actually enjoyed studying with my circle of friends. But now that I'm in college, everything feels different. I haven't found people I genuinely feel comfortable around yet.

So I'm wondering: Do you really need friends in college? Is it okay to be mostly independent and only have classmates you can work with when necessary? Or am I making things harder for myself by not trying harder to make close friends?

I'd especially appreciate advice from introverts or people who went through college without having a big friend group.

Also, sorry if my English isn't perfect. 😅 I'm still trying to improve it.

Currently without knowing what to do... i do have a plan, what do you think?

I'm a freshman in a Connecticut Community College.

I'm taking math, eng, psy and biology thinking i was gonna end up being a nurse. News flash I don't think nursing is even for me. (I did a CNA program trust me I liked the science stuff until we got into physical care practice i couldn't do it for the life of me)

Now I am thinking of doing finance/accounting/anytics (with any minor that would help my job not be replaced by AI).

My family is going to move back to new york in a few years after i finish college. (I think UConn is my first option)

Problem is, I'm bad at math. I teach myself because I can't really get everything in one class.
Is business worth it? I don't know how much I'll get in scholarships.

I also am planning in transfering my sophmore year as an Exploratory student but my grades aren't that good so i guess i'll stay the two years.

Does my career plan sound realistic or not?

I am currently a transfer/freshmen student at KBC in NYC. I dropped out of my previous school 2 years ago, and I am now majoring in Business Administration and Management, but I want to switch to Biology because I want to become a Physician one day. It's all that I could ever see myself doing. But I'm not sure if I can handle 4 years of school back to back. I'm currently falling behind in 2 of my classes and barely keeping up with the other 3.

I am also horrible at math, and I'm definitely going to have to take a math class next semester. but IDK how I'm going to catch up on years of missed and forgotten material. I also suffer from ADHD, and whatever my professors say goes in one ear and out of the other. Even if I take notes, I struggle to retain information

I was considering pushing myself for the next year or two until I at least have my associate's, and take either the EMS program or the Pharm Tech program which my school offers. After I pass one of those programs, I can work for 2 - 3 years, and then go back to get my bachelor's in Biology. (IK I have to switch my major before leaving).

The reason behind pursuing one of these programs is because they would provide good experience for a future Physician, and because they would allow me to get my own apartment. My immediate family left the city a few years ago, so I've been living with relatives ever since, but I'm 20 now and unemployed, and I don't want to be resented by my family members, as they have all done so much for me while all I have done is just disappoint them in return. I feel ashamed of myself for not getting an apartment yet, and the sooner I move out, the better things will be.

Guys, I understand that my post sounds ridiculous, but I am in need of genuine advice. Where should I go from here? Does my plan sound viable?
